UPSB v3

Serious Discussion / Hate on the Less-Common Stereotype.

Or "emos"

I don't really understand why most people hate them. And truthfully, it seems that the people who don't have very many friends themselves, are the people who hate "emos."

Now this isn't directed at me, I know you all hate me for reasons besides me dressing differently. But do you have anything against the scene stereotype at your school? What makes them so much different than you? I mean, most likely, preppy people dress differently than you do, but you don't have anything against them, or at least you shouldn't like most people I know.

    Discuss.

I don't have a problem with emos. Really I don't see why one should they never do anything hateful to me.

I only dislike those who hate others.

And as far as preps go, not to stereotype them, but they seem to hate people the most.

Well first of all "emos" gave emo music a bad name, because they have no idea what they're talking about. Scene people are just kinda wanna be's in my eye's not sure really how to explain it. And actually I do hate preps, why you might ask, well simply because they do not think for themselves. I would have loved to have a prepared argument for this so eh I might come back to it.

I don't think people really hate emos, I think that people just find them a easy target, because of emo peoples different look and their solitary and humble nature. You could go and write a chapter in a diary about how unfair that is, followed by cutting your wrist open. Or you could just say whatever and accept that some people will always find something to make fun of you about.

they are easy targets becuase it's easy to exaggerate their attitude in a humorous fashion: e.g. making any minor setbacks a huge tragedy which obviously doesn't compare to world hunger, etc.

and humour is mostly about exaggerating reality.

Most emo people dont really cut their wrists... its people exagerating their mindset and twisting reality.

    i agree with Le*Mons though.
Scene people are like wanna be emo's but dont have the guts.

In conclusion... Emo chicks are hot

    depends how u classify emos

emo because they dress differently is like hating any other stereotype... they all dress differently, people just chose a smaller one

emo because they are emotional... especially with guys this is different to what we expect of people, we expect people to keep in their problems and keep a straight face in public... some people choose not to do that and it becomes obvious, bigger differences cause other people to notice more and "hate" more

emo because they cut themselves, now... we are in the serious discussion board so im gna come out with trust u guys will be mature, i used to cut, i used to do it a lot, people knew, it changed peoples attitudes but it didnt change me, people saw it as different and wrong... and it was, you know it is wen u do it, but u still do... anywayz, people dont like it coz it scares them, makes them feel like the other person is unstable and not trustworthy and more often people just go with the crowd... the point is, people hate people like this for stupid reasons and fail to see it doesnt change the person

Emos, when i think of emos i dont see people that dress differently, i see attention seekers, that dress horrible and don't conform because they think they are better and bigger than everyone. IF you are emo, stop now and do us all a favor (i don't mean kill yourselves)

    Yay!

"Emo" people act and dress "Emo" in order to draw attention to themselves, stand out from the crowd. Its a good way to gain recognition amongst a crowd, and it is easily gotten without having to do anything besides looking like an "Emo". The "Emo" fad only started to gain recognition recently, and for the pro-"Emo" camp : Hi, I'm pretty sure you didnt see anyone wearing eyeshadow and the whole "Emo" works during the 1980s, but people have not changed since 1980s, so what did the "Emos" of the 80s wear?

Face it, "Emo" is just a societal trend, "true expression of oneself" is just a facade.

as far as im concerned i would have been happier without the term emo, it gave people a way to classify my into somewhere they didnt like and it popped up everywhere... then other people knew, used it around me to try hurt me... now if it were a social trend i wouldnt care, i would have tried to be emo... things just happened... i didnt even dress the same way and i got "emo" shit

either way i still bring the reaction down to the 3 ways of seeing emos ive already explained... ive had enough talking about this for now... whatever

I don't hate EMO. But i hate it when people me EMO.

    IM NOT EMO!!!!

Anyway, i don't like EMO's fashion sense, nor their music, but I don't have problem with it. I dont hate emos. Because they are probably good guys in the inside.

i am often the victim of people trying to insult me for being what they call an 'emo'

i believe the simple trueth is that they dont hate them, they are just insecure with themselves and insult others to make themselves feel better, and all they have is calling the person an emo
i dont hate them..i pitty them....no wait sorry, i hate them too tongue.gif

"Emo" can be a fad or it can be lifestyle. It depends on the person. I personally believe that as long as somebody has a good heart with good intentions-- a little EMOtional or not -- they deserve respect just as everybody else does.
I think the people who mock "emo" kids are more derranged than the "emo"s themselves.

DAR, thanks for your concern, but lyla just registered on UPSB, and I'm not going to deny someone the right to voice his/her opinion, especially on a subject that is still relevant. As long as the person adds a legitimate opinion or insight to the topic, I have no problems with thread revival. Exceptions to this are time-sensitive topics. For instance, if someone commented in the US presidential election thread a few months from now, I would consider it improper.

If this thread is going to be revived I must say that a lot of modern "emo" music like Panic! at the disco killed emotional hardcore or emocore music like Rites of Spring, or Sunny day real estate.

WTF Panic at the disco is "Emo" I always thought emo music would be more... depressing.

I think its stupid to classify people, you assume that people posses certain traits based on their appearance and,

Never assume, it make an ASS out of U and ME.

Panic at the disco is considered emo, but it isn't. Emo is a shortening of the word Emocore which sounds nothing like the modern pop bands like Panic at the disco and Fall out boy. Emocore is a subgenre of music not a fashion. You wouldn't call someone who listens to rap a rap kid so calling someone emo doesn't make any sense
