General Discussion / Camera Shyness

So, I just started filming again and noticed I just can't spin as well as I do off cam. Tricks are harder to do and I just can't seem to blank out and forget the numerous tricks I know. Today was my second time filming and I did so for about half an hour and hoping.

I'm hoping I'll get over this camera "shyness" soon and was wondering how long it took for everyone else to get over it. So?

When I first started filming I spun a lot worse, but after a few weeks or so of filming combos I spun about as well as I did off cam (still a bit worse but it's okay)

I have this problem too, but then I realized that it was just that usually when I film, I have my hand further out over the table as when I casually spin or I'm practicing a trick, I spin really close to my body.

I hate camera shyness, it really hurts my spinning. When I'm not spinning on camera I can do a lot of tricks smoothly, but when I'm on cam I can't do crap. I've had to settle for a lot of my battle videos because I couldn't do my combo on camera.

I haven't got over my shyness of the camera. I spin so horrible on camera. Well to me anyways.

I've been spinning for about 2 years and 3 months, and i'm still shy in front of the camera.

I've gotten better at filming but still.

I've realized that i'm always uncomfortable when i spin on camera. Like my body feels in an awkward position.
Cause i try and keep my head from getting in the camera or keeping my hand in the center of the screen.

Maybe its cause you're focusing on alot of other things around.

the best way to get rid of shyness IMO is have someone esle press the record button.

The catch is, the person doesn't tell you when s/he's pressing it, so that you have no idea if you're on air or not.

Yea I dont think people really get over it. Spinning will always be easier without the filming.

I think that when you spin in front of a recording camera, you are eager to finish and see how you did. This causes you not to think about your combo therefore you don't know how to end it or do something to stop your sonic spamming.

    Idk, that's my theory dunno.gif

For me its a matter of staying in camera because I tend to spin in the most comfortable postion which is leaned back and directly over my lap

I think I've gotten over my camera shyness really because I spin almost always on camera in fact I think I'm better on camera now huh.gif .

Theres a reason why you guys never see me spin, mainly because I suck but thats besides the point.

I already made a thread about this >.>

but yeah..i am so damn shy...it sucks because i can never show my real skill T_T

I would probably get over my shyness if i had a webcam

if i had a webcam it would be at a convenient place on my desk and would be able to tilt and stuff

i use a camcorder which uses up tape..so i dont liek to waste it so i dont make crap clips...
if i ahd webcam it would go straight to my 250gb hd and i could just delete it.

Same here, I believe I spin better on camera when it comes to smoothness and technical skills. Aerials and stalls are worse, though.

i've had the same trouble, but I'm more than sure it has to do with your body position and the endurance of your hand.(not in that way you cockits)

You need to find which position gives you the most range of motion without sacrificing a good camera angle. If your slouching your pen spinning with usually worsen. The other part is the endurance of the hand. People who try to film for an hour or so using the same pen get tired. I remember trying to film a combo with my f-3000 for 1/2 hr I spent doing the same combo over and over and over, eventually my hand got stiff and so used to the combo there was no room for flexibility. It just continued to stiffen.

different position to what you are normal used to spinning in

i think its a physical reason and not a psychological one

for me it isnt really camera shyness, but i try to position my hand so its on the screen, and i think thats what messes me up, the awkward positioning of my hand.

    I hate Camera shyness.

Its not just on camera for me. Everytime i show my friend a trick it gets messed up too..

Any of you have the same problem?

wot? i'm the only one who voted for the first option?!
i just think that i suck with and without the camera >_>
so there is no shyness dunno.gif

Simple answer : Always record, just in case you do something cool and you can catch it on camera + you'll automatically start recording when you start a session. Since it's routine, you won't **** it up because you're on camera... (not that I've tried this myself, it sounds pretty pwn...)

If you film every session on camera and you're camera shy, you'll probably never get any tricks done lol..

I've done at least 50 takes already for my combo for a collab. I still can't get it right. The fact that I know I'm going to be on camera screws me up, even if the record button isn't pressed.

Someone has to secretly record me or I have to get a camera installed in my glasses that never stop filming... >.<

hmm... 50? thats quite a lot.. if thats the case, Id have a freind film for me, and make shore you ahve the combo down perfectly with no trouble what sover so you dont actually ahve to focus on the tricks in the combo, but rather on just getting thru =]

Here's what I did. If you're holding the camera in one hand and spinning with the other, don't look through your camera screen but look at your hand while spinning. If it goes off the camera screen, film it again.

    Works for me.

Also, sit in a comfortable position. Calm yourself down and spin. You can cut everything on your computer after that.

Yeah, I have EXTREME camera shyness too. And Loanshark, don't feel too bad about having to do a combo 50 times...I had to do well over 60 takes...I used up all the memory in my camera too...Even then, I was still spinning at 40% of the level I can do off camera.

So...Anyone have any advice on how to overcome camera shyness? I heard listening to music helps, does it?

I do better when I'm nervous; when i have a ton of tension to do a hard finishing trick, i really focus on doing it well.

i also have serious camera shyness (or maybe just camera nervousness).
but if it was a freestyle, not a planned combo, i can do better.
and practice for like 10-20minutes before filming helps too. happy.gif

get over it, its just a camera learn to be comfortable with yourself.

Well, I used to be camera shy... and I'm still a bit, but it became better since I found a more comfortable position to film in..
biggest problem is I'm using a camera, which means I have less space for vids- after X tries I need to delete everything and start all over again... I need a webcam >_>
