OK, I have mastered 1.0 thumbaround and gotten very smooth at fingerpass. I, on the other hand, can't do a charge or sonic worth shit. Should I keep trying those or, like some people in IRC suggested, move onto other tricks? If so, what tricks?
-
Date: Wed, Sep 26 2007 06:04:44
I would suggest you learn at least sonic first for it will help you later with more advanced tricks. But feel free to try the more advanced tricks.
-

Do whatever you want. It took a few months before I cared enough to get around to learning Fingerpass. By that time, I had already moved onto other tricks and combos. I had the Infinity combos down before the Fingerpass combo. It would b good to learn Sonic soon, since it's pretty much the most reliable way of moving the pen up and down the hand.
-

Move onto whatever you think looks coolest, or something YOU want to do in your combos. You can learn many things ahead of time before all fundamentals.
-
Date: Wed, Sep 26 2007 06:16:01
I agree, learn whatever trick you find appealing. I still have a horrible finger pass and not that good of a sonic reverse 23-34. So I went directly to shadows cause i liked the way they look. Although the fundamentals make it easier to learn more advanced tricks.
Anyway do whatever you feel like -

Learn the fundamentals...it makes learning harder stuff less of a pain in the ass

learn watever u want, but i suggest charge cuz it helps a lot
-

ya u should try to get sonic and charge down first because they're almost like the gateway to other tricks
but u can always look through the advance tricks i actually learned shadow before sonic so ya -

IMO you should just do what you feel like doing, just because there are 4 tricks that are considered fundamentals it doesn't mean you need to learn them all, hell, even if you only learned the thumbaround and then went on to tougher tricks that can be learned after knowing the thumbaround you could still make excellent combos, with tricks like ta, ts, ta rev, IA, face double etc.. the most important thing I guess is that you shouldnt follow a certain pattern just because other guys are following it..
-
Date: Thu, Sep 27 2007 05:49:08QUOTE (PoisonedV @ Sep 26 2007, 02:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Guess I should take your guyses advice though... Too bad sonic is fucking hard
In my opinion it is not how hard the trick is, it is the patience and commitment that one puts into learning a trick that makes it happen. The less you put into a trick, the more your mind gets sucked into thinking that it is hard. Some tricks take longer to learn than others depending on how you approach the trick. So if you want to learn a trick, don't think about how hard it is, but put your mind into learning it itself and nothing else.
Learn the Basics first. The basics is the gate to a broader mind of tricks and imagination in tricks -
Date: Thu, Sep 27 2007 07:54:33
Well... it's really your choice, if you want to learn tricks first, go ahead but learning the basics will just lessen the toughness of the advanced tricks. And btw... when your trying to do a sonic, try your luck x_x I tried mine and acidentally got it while doing a Inverse Reverse Fingerpass.

What the heck is an Inverse Reverse Fingerpass?
-
Date: Fri, Sep 28 2007 20:03:46
I think you should figure out what type of tricks you want to learn and then work from the bottom up. Spinning won't interest you for long if you're only learning tricks because somebody else says you should. Of course for some combos you'll have to learn other tricks first, but at least then you have a goal to work towards. I think as long as you are interested in pen spinning and you are willing to practice, the rest of the fundamentals will come in time regardless what you do right now.

Well, a month ago I started pen spinning. Since then, I learned fingerpass+reverse, sonic, twisted sonic, thumb around, charge, and infinity. I think that's about it. So I was wondering if one of you could give me and advice about which trick or combo should I learn.
Thanks.
Oh, and sorry if there is already a thread like this one, I didn't found one X: -
Date: Wed, Oct 31 2007 18:44:35
I think you should try a shadow or TA reverse, if you're lost you should look at Kam's learning order, or maybe the trick book thing somewhere. It's just a list of tricks and you can pick one, but I don't think these kinds of threads are recommended.
-

Go to 'advanced tricks > video tutorials' and try out some new tricks.
It's all about personal preferences regarding which trick you learn next.
An advice could be: learn reverse sonic 23 34 & 12 23, theyre good for linking tricks. -

Learn whatever you want! It's what all the cool people do.
-

Apperently the fundamentals and their reverses are pretty important. Sonic Reverse, ThumbAround Reverse, and Charge would be 3 very good tricks to learn next. Then... the world is yours to conquer!

I tried looking at the tutorials but there were so many weird named tricks for me, so I decided to ask
But thanks anyway, I'll try ^^ -

I started ard a mth ago too.
Besides the fundamentals and all the tricks you mentioned, I learned shadow, double TA, twisted sonic bust, bak rev. I think that's about it. Combo wise, learned K4LC. Btw, I am learning from Eso's youtube tutorial. It's easy to understand, he teaches a lot concepts.
Btw, I am trying to smoothen all the tricks I had learned so far...
What I can say is, learn whatever you like, spin it WITH YOUR WAY! =) -

try learning the Korean backaround, it gives you some interesting two-trick combo opportunity.

hey guys... i think ive got the thumbaround, sonic, charge, and fingerpass down, with the fingerpass being the hardest so far... so now, since ive got the hang of the fundamentals, which trick should i start with next? i'm pretty lost with all these fancy trick terms...
-

learn whatever you want, its what the cool people do. However, if you're one of those newbie lemmings who needs to be told exactly do i suppose you can start practicing shadows/backarounds.

Wow! Some of you guys learn really quickly... Man, I just cant seem to find the time because of school. I only know Sonic + rev, TA + rev (harmonic), charge + rev, fingerpass, bak (korean), fingerless TA, indexaround, twisted sonic, sonic rise/fall harmonic, tap (half and sometimes full), infinity + extended infinity or double (i dont really know what they're called but it is the one where you do infinity then move it down to you middle finger 23 and i can do the infinity then the charge thinggy..) thats about it but you guys learned heaps and I have been spinning way longer lol... -
Date: Sun, Dec 23 2007 07:40:05
If you are comfortable with Sonic, then go ahead and learn Shadow, and learn everythin else based around the Conic motion. Your combos won't be as exciting though, but a beginning shouldn't have to worry about exciting combos.
If you want to vary up with tricks of different spin types, then I would suggest moving onto to something like Thumbaround so that your combos will not look so similar.
It just depends on what you want to do, continue to learn everything you can based around what you already know, then learn a new base trick that you will expand upon later just like you did with Sonic, or choose now to learn something different then learn more tricks based around both spin types: Conic and Around. It's all up to you. -

What should I do next?
So, I know alot of tricks now, I ain't really comfortable with alot of them, but there are very few tricks I can't do at all (moonwalk sonic).
I don't ask for specific trick to learn. The thing is that I am already starting to get bored of learning every trick, so I was thinking about doing combos. The question is, do you think it is anyhow going to be unwise in the (near) future? Since I think it's perfectly okay, but still it seems pretty soon after two months.. dno -
Date: Thu, Jan 3 2008 11:28:08
Start working on linking, doing a trick once in 10 tries doesn't count as well so start working on consistency. You'll start to enjoy spinning a lot more.
-
Date: Mon, Apr 21 2008 22:37:01
Yayyyy. I can do twisted sonics.
Here's what I have sorta down:
-Thumbaround
-Charge
-Sonic
-NeoSonic
-Twisted Sonic
I still need to improve on them all but I can get em about half the time. What tricks should I learn next? -
Date: Mon, Apr 21 2008 22:38:02
I'd suggest ta reverse or sonic reverse
-

How do you do a TA rev. I can't do it under control. I have to flick the pen very fast and it looks spastic and way to fast. At what angle should my hand be? -
Date: Mon, Apr 21 2008 23:39:04
same as a normal TA?
-

Ok. I got my hands on a longer pen and put the cap on the back and TA rev is much, much easier now.

im still a bit confused about shadow after viewing eso's tutorial
-
Date: Tue, Apr 22 2008 15:40:41
Basically I do a charge palm-down, but keep the index finger low after 1/2 a revolution so the pen slips out. Then I lift the index finger up higher than my middle so the pen slides back in.
-
Date: Tue, Apr 22 2008 18:12:44
ThumbAround
ThumbAround Rev
Continuous ThumbAround
Charge
Charge Rev
Sonic
Sonic Rev
Fingerpass
Fingerpass Rev
Twisted Sonic
Double Charge
Is there something else that's good to learn before trying baks, shadows and arounds? -
Date: Tue, Apr 22 2008 18:27:45
You could try infinities.
-
Date: Tue, Apr 22 2008 23:57:46
yea try infinities or try learning k4lc
-
Date: Fri, May 2 2008 16:29:48
each of the fundamentals branches out into it's own family of tricks. you can do TA so you could go on to learn reverse, harmonic, continuous some of which are kind of advanced. theres no rule that says you have to progress in all areas of spinning at the same time...
but then again if you want to learn any other tricks later on it will be a pain to have to learn the sonic from scrach.....
but you can do what you like... -
Date: Tue, May 6 2008 18:10:43
After a hard week of training now i can do these tricks:
Charge
Charge Reverse
ThumbAround
ThumbAround Reverse
ThumbSpin (1.5 ~ 2.5)
Sonic
Sonic Reverse
Inverse Sonic
Twisted Sonic (all 4 variations
Warped Sonic (all 4 variations)
Infinity
IndexAround
MIddleAround
Faked Reverse
Neosonic
Twisted Sonic Bust
Shadow Still (12-12)
And with a medium success rate / smoothness:
Fingerpass
Fingerpass Reverse
Fingerless ThumbAround
Fingerless ThumbAround Reverse
Korean BackAround
Tornado
I've been working on linking by the time, but i'd like to know what are now my goals as pen spinner.
Thanks -
Date: Tue, May 6 2008 18:48:08
I suggest you practice combos.
also learn shadow to/from different slots, double TA, and maybe some hybrids like demon's sonic/around or inverse sonic 23-13 ~> shadow
work toward bakfall? -
Date: Wed, May 7 2008 03:08:07
I would also suggest finding a favorite spinner. That might help on your linking of tricks to get what you want out of a combo.
-
Date: Thu, May 8 2008 21:32:43
Check out Eso's tutorials on youtube, they helped me out quite a bit when i first started learning the basics.
You should learn how to do sonics, Thumbarounds, reverse Thumbarounds and possibly halftaps. I think you need to just get used to the pen being in contact with your hand. youtube is a good resource.
I first started feeling comfortable with learning tricks once i learned how to do the sonic.
Maybe you should do Twisted Sonic's 12-T1. -

You have a decent trick list, I wouldn't really suggest anything but acutally just linking and finding a favorite spinner. Atleast thats what helped me, I would go find vids and look for mini combos inside them, once you have a good idea mini combos and what not, shoot for a goal to spin like somone. This should help, it helped me, especially the favorite spinner part.

I have gotten into the habit of spinning with my T, 1 and 2. Almost all of my tricks seem to involve these three fingers. Does anyone have any tips for tricks using the fingers 1-4. I need to get better at not using my thumb for everything. Not that i dont love the thumb, i love it. I love the thumb. But i feel like i rely on this apendage more than i should in order to do any combos.
I have a hard time doing Twisted Sonics from 34-23, i cant seem to get my middle and ring fingers far enough apart in order to make the catch. I can do them inverse, and regular and reverse between all fingers but just not regular Twisted sonic from 34-23. I can charge between 12 and 23. i cant charge between 34, .13, or 24...and nevermind 14. I can do sonics all over the place, shadows are cake, i've been learning inverse shadows lately.
I guess what i'm trying to say is that i am having trouble keeping the pen spinning between those 4 fingers. Lots of spinners(ex. erriror) keeps the pen between those fingers almost the entire time. What are you doing differently!?!?!!!!!!! I can keep up Cont. RevBak->FL TA's all day long but the second i get the pen over to my main 4 fingers, i am just bouncing sonics all over the place...it looks like crap, hahaha
TIPS APPRECIATED!!!!! Any combos between those fingers I NEED TO KNOW!
I have been trying double charges but i cant seem to get the pass correctly -
Date: Fri, May 30 2008 09:32:14
Fingerarounds mixed with sonics are usually a good option for these fingerss.
Also try Alan's short combo tutorial (youtube is currently offline). Maybe it's going to help you, -

Sonic and charge are the foundation to a lot of new tricks. People take a lot of time to get it but its useful.eg: twisted sonic, shadow, double charge, demons sonic, rising fans, etc.
Maybe you should not skip the fundamentals. You could skip fingerpass though...its not that useful but it looks really cool when done smooth. -

Twisted Sonic ( get you charge smooth)
Shadow (maybe)

I feel like a noob..I've never taken the time to actually post what i can do
Thumbaround
Reverse thumbaround
Charge (palm up and palm down)
Top spin charge (don't ask, its a charge but im using the top "section" of my fingers..)
Sonic (palm up and down)
Top spin sonic (again, a sonic on the top section of my fingers..i don't know why i call it that)
Twisted sonic (palm up and down)
Twisted sonic bust (palm up and down)
Top spin twisted sonic
Thumbaround>stall>reverse thumbaround (i consider it one trick, i make a little dip in between my finger 1 and thumb and stop the pen from continuing, then using the fingerless thumbaround and flick it and it goes the way it came, or reverse)
Figure 8
Thumbaround>release (one trick)
Cardioid (thumbaround + wiper..look it up on Youtube)
Scissor spin (again, Youtube)
__________________________
__________________________
*This next one is hard to explain..
Picture a MX, i hold the grip so the cap is up in the air, with my thumb and 1st finger. I then release it and let it fall back to my Finger 1 and my finger 2 and catch it, then take my thumb and "help" the pen complete one revolution around my first finger..i don't know what it is called..I want to say either half rev or a back fall or fingerpass..anyone want to help?*
__________________________
__________________________
Combos that I've come up with
Top spin twisted sonic 23-12 > figure 8 > thumbaround-stall-reverse ta > (catch 23) regular (or reverse) twisted sonic 23-12 > cardioid > figure 8 > fallback t1 12 > fallback t1 12 > repeat.
Top spin charge > twisted (reverse..i think) sonic > thumbaround > stall-reverse > (catch 23) regular (or reverse) twisted sonic 23-12 > usually i repeat everything except the top spin charge or finish with two fall backs t1-12.
(The two are very similar i know)
I do other combo's but those are the 2 i like to show off with and do most often

Twisted sonic (palm up and down)
Twisted sonic bust (palm up and down)
Top spin twisted sonic
Thumbaround>stall>reverse thumbaround (i consider it one trick, i make a little dip in between my finger 1 and thumb and stop the pen from continuing, then using the fingerless thumbaround and flick it and it goes the way it came, or reverse)
Figure 8
Thumbaround>release (one trick)
Cardioid (thumbaround + wiper..look it up on Youtube)
Scissor spin (again, Youtube)

*This next one is hard to explain..
Picture a MX, i hold the grip so the cap is up in the air, with my thumb and 1st finger. I then release it and let it fall back to my Finger 1 and my finger 2 and catch it, then take my thumb and "help" the pen complete one revolution around my first finger..i don't know what it is called..I want to say either half rev or a back fall or fingerpass..anyone want to help?*

Combos that I've come up with
Top spin twisted sonic 23-12 > figure 8 > thumbaround-stall-reverse ta > (catch 23) regular (or reverse) twisted sonic 23-12 > cardioid > figure 8 > fallback t1 12 > fallback t1 12 > repeat.
Top spin charge > twisted (reverse..i think) sonic > thumbaround > stall-reverse > (catch 23) regular (or reverse) twisted sonic 23-12 > usually i repeat everything except the top spin charge or finish with two fall backs t1-12.
(The two are very similar i know)
I do other combo's but those are the 2 i like to show off with and do most often

let's see, i have perfected
(reverse) charge
(reverse) sonic any slot except 12 to T1
(reverse) TA
(extended)(double) infinity and figure 8 [not too sure how to use these in combos]
double charge 23
neo-sonic
demon sonic 34 to 12 (or is it devil? the non-shadow one)
i can do the following but with some difficulty
(reverse) half tap
double TA
thumbspin 1.5
(reverse) fingeraround
(reverse) fingerpass
triangle pass
and i've failed miserably at trying to learn
shadows
baks
extended TA
reverse double TA
so now i'm looking for opinions. which tricks should i do next? perfect the second part, spend months of hardcore practice trying to learn the 3rd part, or something new entirely? -

mm..well for fundies i think i can do them in all slots except for maybe charge 34 and pinky push TA. if it's that important to learn those 2 tricks i guess i will o.o. i've made a combo that i spam once in a while: sonic 34-23 -> tw sonic 23-12 -> TA 12-12 -> Reverse TA 12-23 -> sonic 23-12 -> neosonic 12-TF. i really wanna know how to use infinities in combos btw i don't get how to get my fingers from the tip of the pen to the middle.

Bakfall already? Wow, very impressive...Anways, you should learn some finger arounds (middlearound, ringaround, pinkaround). You might also consider learning twisted sonic reverse, inverse twisted sonic, and inverse twisted sonic reverse. And if you haven't done so already, learn the reverses of the fundamentals.
EDIT: nada beat me to it, but yeah, definitely learn some arounds. -

I suggest Charge 23 first.. because with the charge you could just pass it onto the next set of fingers which is 12.In short you can do sonic 23-12 if you learn charge. Just keep practicing bro,and you'll get the hang of it.
Once, you master the funds the other tricks will be easy as pie. especially if you master charge. you could do tricks such as warped sonic, twisted sonic, double charge etc.. -

guys what do u think could be good learning now?, I have learned - thumbAround+inverse, fingerpass+inverse(not very smooth), charge(only 23 , my 12 or 34 sucks), sonic +inverse(inverse only in 12-23) twisted sonic(only 32-21) infinity, extended infinity, multiple infinity, finguer around(only 12), am about to learn double TA, 1/8 works. oops, forgot the fingerless TA
I think that thats all, what should I learn now?
or maybe smooth all the tricks I have learned, none of them is very smooth, or maybe try to learn that tricks that flexibilizes or strech ur finguers, like sonic flush, clip , or char 14?? ii dunno pls help me, everything llooks confusing ^^, BTW pen spinning r0cks, i will do this for all my life.

I think by inverse thumbaround, you mean REVERSE thumbaround. There's no such thing as an inverse thumbaround.
You seem to be saying that you need to get your tricks down and smooth. I HIGHLY recommend you do that. Also, work on getting your thumbarounds consistent if you haven't so already.
If you master charge in all finger slots, I recommend that you learn charge reverse. It helps a lot when you do more advanced stuff.
But right now, you can move on to Neosonic, a relatively simple trick to master. And since you know Fingerless thumbaround, you should learn Fingerless Thumbaround reverse. -

Sonic rise (pretty choppy), sonic twisted, neo sonic, TA reverse, TA harmonic (a little), Korenback, middle around, shadow, infinity, fingerless TA, TA 2 revelutions, weis backaround and thats all i think. So what should i learn? is there a specific order? Thanks every1 bye

Finger pass Reverse

Sonic Reverse (T_T How comes i cant learn it any tips o.O )
Charge (23)
Twisted sonic (23-12)

Double Infinity
Triple Infinity
Warped Sonic
Sonic Rise (smooth)
Demons Sonic

Fingerless Thumb around reverse

Shadow Still
Korean Bak (is that how you spell it?)

Charge
Thumbaround
Sonic
Twisted Sonic
Infinity

I dunno ... I watched a few tutorials and one of them (I don't remember whos) said that you should do a charge motion because a charge is too circular so you should just MOVE your hand in a circular motion ... which will move the pen into more of a oval shape so it's easier to let the pen slide along the top of your fingers..
Is that true?

You want the charge motion to be circular. And knowing how to do a charge helps with that. You don't need the full revolution, just 0.5 for the start of a shadow. -

Hm black crayons, learn the shadow first if you haven't, i never learned the shadow before i done the shadow still but it will help also some tips:
1. With the shadow still you have to shake your hand a bit, Shake it to much and it will FALL OFF! (Basically you lose xD)
2. While doing the shake, don't actually shake it, make a semi-circle and then your hand MUST STAY STILL when the semi-circle finishes.
3.Keep on practicing thats how i got it, ive only been spinning since 06/Sep/2008 so you could get it in no time (im not a fast learner but keep practicing)

Hey guys,
I'm kind not sure on what I should do next.. I cbf write up a trick list but I can say it's 40-50+. I've been spinning for about 4 months now, and I'm unclear on what to do next.
What I've been doing recently is trying to master combos that are about 20-30 tricks long(For showing off at school ^_~). It's taking a long time though.. to get it right. Too long.. so I started thinking if I'm even ready to attempt combos with that many tricks, and whether or not I should be just smoothing out most of my tricks.
Any help is much appreciated ~ -

Many posts are from profi. And what should I do next? xD
Fingerpass n/r
Sonic normal 34-23, 23-12
Sonic rise
Ta normal only
Extended Infinity
Figure 8
I'm trying to do Twisted Sonic, but I cant understand the moment where you should begin doing pass after charge
I have watched 5 tutorials about TA rev, but I can understand how to do it:(
The same with Sonic reverse. I can understand, but I hadn't practised very much. Maybe some time later I would do it -

Hi guys, can't really think up of any decent combo though.
Trick list:
Sonic Rise/Fall
Sonic Clip 13
Inverse Sonic 23-12
Flush Sonic 34-23/23-23 (struggling)
TA Normal/Reverse/Harmonic/FL Normal/FL Reverse
Twisted Sonic 23-12
Twisted Sonic Bust
Demon Sonic 34-12
Double Charge
Shadow Normal 12-12/23-23/12-23/23-12
Devil Shadow 12-12 (Shadow 12-23 ~> FL MA 23-12), and with additional bust added as well
NeoSonic 23-TF/12-TF
Infinity Normal/Extended/Double Normal/Double Extended
Figure 8 T1/T2/T3
Triangle Pass T12 (not really fast though)
Bak -> Midbak
And I can't really do the NeoSonic -> FL Charge TF -> FL TA Rev combo pretty smoothly though. Pen will end up in 34 after FL TA Rev. And I usually do NeoSonic -> FL TA Rev without Charge TF since mine's pretty wonky.
Thanks. -

ima say this to just about everyone.....learn rev charge! twisted sonic spamming might not look as good as twisted sonic quintuple bust, but it considering how much you will need it for linkage, you may as well learn it now because your going to need it for just about every combo you ever do.....

Very impressive trick list, but you should now learn Charge Reverse...It helps, trust me.
Once you've learned Charge Reverse, go ahead and move onto Sonic Reverse/Twisted Sonic Reverse.
It seems you know charge very well, so go learn Inverse Twisted Sonic.
Also, Fingerpass Reverse would help too. -

Hello, last 2 weeks I was very lazy and I only spammed demons sonic and infinitys, so I got bored and decided to come visit the forum and ask for some help ^^, so far I have learned:
Ta(+ reverse)
Sonic (+reverse)(all fingers except reverse 32-43)
Charge (all fingers) (cant do revereses)
finguer pass( very bad reverse)
Twisted sonic (my 43 is very bad)(cant do reverse since I cant do charge reverse)
double charge (my 43 is very bad too)
inverse sonic (cant do with 43)
infinity
multiple infinite
extended infinity
double infinity
triple infinity (I use instead of a anyball grip I use a g3 grip, cant find anyballs)
index around (cant do it with other finguers)
double TA (very very bad)(cant do reverse)
finguerless TA (+reverse)(very bad reverse)
Neo sonic (only 23- to the thumb)
Sonic clip (only 23-12 and very bad)
Warped sonic (+ reverse)(my reverse better than normal)
Sonic rise (smooth)(cant make fall)
Demons sonic ( I make a cool combo and small combo, demons sonic->pass12-23->sonic23-12-> Finguerless TA)
I am about to learn shadow, twisted inverse sonic, trying to masterize charge reverse in all finguers and all arounds in all finguers
So I believe thats all, please tell me some other tricks I could learn, and tell me If I should start learning some Combos
Thanks -

You should definitely perfect your Twisted Sonic first. After that, you can move on to the Twisted Sonic variations, like Reverse Twisted sonic, Inverse Twisted Sonic, and Inverse Twisted Sonic Reverse.
Also, you can start learning warped sonics. I find them highly useful.
Extended TA wouldn't be bad to learn now, either...Also, you can learn Sonic clip as well...
Once you get Shadow and/or Sonic clip down, move onto Devil's Sonic and Demon's sonic.
And finally, you should learn Twisted Sonic Bust. It's a very nice combo finisher.

Like you said, learn shadows. Double TA can be quite decent too. Arounds if you havent learn them. Twisted Sonic double bust.
Or maybe hybrids like devil's shadow, devil's shadow, demon devil's sonic, etc.. -

I think double bust might be a bit hard, but otherwise Outsmash pretty much has it all. I might suggest learning Neo Bak, Mid Bak, Ring Bak, Pinky Bak. -

Fingerpass!!! Yeah, you should start learning it now, because you'll need it a lot when you get into more advanced tricks.

Once you get your Charge and Fingerpass smooth, you can move onto Warped Sonic.
And you can try learning Shadow now. http://www.upsb.info/wiki/index.php/Shadow
Thanks. I've been trying to get the shadow but I'm having trouble. I can do the rev fingerpass ok, but i'm also having trouble with the normal fingerpass.
Oh well. I'll keep at it. -

A good thing I did when I was learning FP (Still working on smoothing my rev) was, I used my left hand to hold then pen and guide it through my fingers in the beginning. Helped my fingers get used to the motion and passing. You can't drop it either, since you're holding it with your left hand.
Try it out. -

I see you don't have IndexAround on the list. It should not be too hard to learn if you already can do a korean backaround, it just goes the other way around and uses a finger push. When you have learned IA you could go on to the other fingerarounds if you like.
You could also learn neobackaround, not that different from backaround and can be useful every now and then.
You have not listed sonic normal, but surely that must be a mistake since you know already know shadow. But if you don't know sonic rise/fall you should learn that.
You should also take a look at demon's sonic, devil's shadow and devil's sonic. And when you know devil's sonic you could go on to devil's around.
And maybe try an aerial trick. When you got one down, they all become easier. -

They are both very useful. Charge more than sonic reverse. You should at least try to learn 3/4 of a charge so you can learn twisted sonic, you hardly ever see a combo without atleast a single twisted sonic or a variations there of. But charge is also good to know for shadows, and when you get even further sonic clip, inverse sonic and inverse shadow. Make sure that when you practise charge, that you are doing it with a pen with enough momentum to keep the pen moving. That does make it a lot easier.
Sonic reverse is good to know for reverse shadow, but is also good just for moving the pen a slot.
If they really give you a lot of trouble, you should not spend all your time on them, you will grow tired of pen spinning then. A lot of people have problems exactly those tricks, when they start out.
But at the same time you should not totally neglect those tricks either, because they are important, they are basis for a lot of other tricks. You will get to point where you need those tricks for something, and you wish you had tried practise them some more. -

Thanks, I was talking about charge reverse, but I'll learn that too since I kinda need it for sonic rev. I've almost got it. -
Date: Sun, Mar 8 2009 16:54:14
Well you should practice during school or work. I got it in about 2 days of doing it. If it helps, a 23-12 sonic has the middle finger for pressure only. Getting it out of the way and getting sonic smoothly with the right amount of pressure posed problems for me...

i've mastered all the fundametals and its reverses but maybe except for the FP rev.. im working on it. (also including traingle pass, infinity, and figure 8)
Is it advicable to learn the shadow and its variations after or before Inverse sonic, double charge, twisted sonic?
And finally, how important is Sonic 34-12? -

You should be able to learn the shadow if you can do a charge and a sonic. As for the others, you should just make sure that you learn twisted sonic before double charge (because double charge is a lot easier if you can do a twisted sonic), and Sonic 34-12 is nice to know (it can help with flexibility), but it's not super useful. -

I actually disagree with Chobi. he knows enough sonics. What he needs to focus on now is around tricks.
try doing backarounds. both weis and korean. Backaround tricks are tricks that makes combos look cool.
or you could also try doing Shadow.
But I suggest Backaround first. they are more simple.

The less you put into a trick, the more your mind gets sucked into thinking that it is hard. Some tricks take longer to learn than others depending on how you approach the trick. So if you want to learn a trick, don't think about how hard it is, but put your mind into learning it itself and nothing else.

you should look in shadow thread and bak thread for more advice?
this thread isn't for individual trick help : /
you said you already learned the bak and mid bak
you have the concept down so, with practice you should be able to learn ring and pinky quite easily.

first thing i mastered was TA and the first time i tried fingerpass i can get it from thumb/index to middle/ring and back with relative speed and ease now im trying to get my pinky to cooperate. Every time i pass it to my pinky [takes a long time.. like 1-2 seconds... i hear a snapping sound somewhere in my hand trying to get it with my pinky. Not sure what it is but i assume it's helping me.
should i be doing the charge right after TA instead of the fingerpass??? i know sonic is last. -

There's already a thread about this but i suggest you learn the charge then sonic. The finger pass will take a long time so work on it

TA extended? Twisted sonic variations. Most of them are pretty easy, for example: Twisted sonic inverse, inverse reverse, warped sonic. double charge.
If you can IA then just apply this trick to all the other fingers such as Middle, ring and pinky.
there are also a few variations on the charge rev. -

a triple charge involves four fingers. so its just a tw sonic 34 -23 > pass 23-12 > pass 12-23 > pass 23-34. called a triple charge.

if you wanna practice more sonic variations pick one of these: inverse sonic (i would learn this trick first), demons sonic, devils around, flush sonic, angel sonic, isonic...
Or tw sonic variations (tw sonic inverse, warped sonic...).

Maybe go for arounds, backarounds or baks. It seems like you do alot of sonic variations, so maybe Shadow Nor/Rev. More infinity variations.
But definitely try to learn TF Charge Rev, that way you could have a nice transition between Neosonic and Fl. Ta Rev

while you're on the neosonic>TF Charge Rev>FLTA Rev combo, try out bak/backarounds, or a palmspin rev. those are some more advanced tricks that link nicely to that... Palmspins are sex.

maybe it helps if you just write down the notation of the tricks and memorize it.
hm aerials, do you know TA release and Twisted sonic release? there are a lot of tricks you can combine with aerials. for example sonic release, shadow bounce, bakriserTA extended bust release, infinty release and many more. you can also do stuff like backhand bounce etc. you just have to experiment with it and see what you can get.

basically, an inverse twisted sonic is just a charge 23 > pass 23-12 and the reverse would be a charge 12 > pass rev 12-23. a warped sonic is charge 12 > pass 12-23 and reverse to this trick is charge rev 23 > pass rev 23-12. easy tricks but good to know for combos.

ok, here are a few more tricks: angel sonic, pseudo sonic (should take a couple of seconds to learn), shadow stuff (rev, rise and fall, bust ), neobak, palmspins (TA > palmspin) and maybe a few Aerials (if you like aerials). such as TA release, Tw sonic release etc.
you can also work on some mini combos that are good for your later combos or freestyle such as : Tw sonic > neosonic > TF charge rev > FL TA rev or bak > FL TA rev something like that.

Hey just to let you know next time you have a question like what to learn next, try utilizing the "search" feature the forum has because those types of questions have been asked many times before and have their own threads. For example your "what to learn next" would be found right here http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=1022
Enjoy -

Try looking on the wiki. There's a tab at the side with different tricks and quite a few of the pages have guide photos videos.
Learn whatever the fuck tricks you think you want to from there. You can always look on youtube too, at Eso's tutorial videos for example. -

you got a lot of tricks on your tricklist, just practice combos and linking
and you can practice bak combos or variations if you like baks. you know somehting like neobak > midbak or neobak fall
the same goes for palmspins there are a lot of palmspin linking into other tricks such as FL TA rev > palmspin > FL TA rev.

Power tricks are some of the flashiest, most impressive and difficult tricks in the pen spinning repertoire.
i can do hai tuas, ayatori tricks, the pinky hit thingy, busts, many of them, but they are hard to link together.
here is a simple mini combo almost EVERYBODY does.
twisted sonic>scissor spin>fingerless thumbaround
or twisted sonic>HALF TAP>fl ta

fingerpass takes a LOT of practice to get it smooth, like weeks or months of practice. you can work on the reverses of the TA, Twisted sonic, Sonic and later the fingerpass reverse. they are easier to master than the fingerpass. another fairly easy trick you could learn is the infinity.

Bakaround - i know it good but i need to work on my catch
what should i learn now??
TY! ^^
you really need to learn the sonic before moving on imo. But if you're totally against that, wiper tricks like the infinity are pretty easy to learn. Or... well honestly you should learn the Sonic, it's a fundamental and after you learn that, you can learn twisted sonic, busts, shadows, inverse Sonics, and a whole bunch of other things. Good luck -

@DasToks
if you don´t understand the concept of the sonic or how it is done it may help to watch several tutorials, not just one. -

So, started spinning at the start of the year or so. Made myself a Buster CYL with a supertip, grips etc.
Can do;
Thumbaround
Thumbaround Reverse
Charge
Double Charge
Sonic
Uprising Sonic
Demon Sonic
Twisted Sonic
Finger Pass
I'm learning the Shadow, atm. But what else should I learn? biggrin.gif -

For someone of your skill level, using a Buster CYL is the biggest no-no. You should be using something like a RSVP MX, Comssa, or even just a pencil. This is because when you move onto harder tricks (i.e. Multiple Twisted Sonic Bust, Baks etc), you'll be having to do them with a lead rod.
But for your tricks, continue learning Shadow, start on the reverses of the other fundamentals and maybe learn Baks and Infinities.
And stay away from using a Buster at this stage in your pen spinning. -

The 2 I would work on (you can always improve them) are Busts and FL TA"sQUOTE (noobpenspinner @ Jun 11 2010, 09:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I can do

Get all of these to 100% Then learn reverse sonic, reverse charge, and devils sonic. Also Learn fingerpass (another fundamental) it really helps in combos. After learning these learn twisted sonic bust and backarounds (it will be a little while till' you learn these) -

I can do
Fingerpass
Charge
TA, TA REV, TA Harmonic, Double TA, fingerless TA
Sonic, SOnic Rise
Reverse sonic
Twisted Sonic
Demon's Sonic
Figure Eight
Which tricks should I try next? I'm a pretty slow learner, so I need quite a lot of time with each trick... -
