Following the "impact MX insert" fiasco, it has been brought to my attention that certain FPSB members, even unrelated to the incident, have been treated with flaming and racist remarks over MSN.
The UPSB staff absolutely does not condone such attitude and we will deal with those offenders if caught.
I want to reassure french members that the UPSB will always welcome FPSB members and treat them with respect and that those offenders only represents a very small minority of UPSB and their attitude definitely shouldn't be generalized to the whole of our community. -

I got assaulted by some UPSB members, I don't know their names and quite franckly I don't care.
Some need to learn to grow up, and that a conflict is a conflict.
It's not because someone is in a conflict that you need to participate and attack randomly, that's just plain stupid ^^'
Anyways, it doesn't matter, I actually had quite a laugh. -

Ok guys,
I just would like to apologize for all i did with this insert (a major part of this problem was from me) to all the UPSB members and Kam of course.
I don't want that you guys from the two board (upsb/fpsb) flames you each other because we are a big community including all the PS boards, such as UPSB FPSB PPP GPC THPSC VTPSC etc...
Please stop being nasty with the FPSB members and i asked the same thing in the FPSB board for you.
So please accept my apologies for this and forget this history and let's be how we were before this impact mx.
And so i ask to Kam to forget this history too and continue his contribution to this great community and to do not stop mading mods. Because they are really great.

I don't agree with the flamers' actions, but this discussion would be unnecessary if people just respected the creations of others. Forget about different communities and consider individual spinners. It partly goes back to what I said earlier about people contributing at least a fraction of much as they take away. But the more importantly, it's not a lack of gratefulness, but selfishness and a lack of respect. Kam won't release his second version of the Impact MX and I hardly blame him. If people take your ideas, debase them, exploit them, abuse them, and so on, then there is no point in releasing anything. This problem was virtually non-existent in the former UPSB. Whatever though; the Internet is a reflection of society. Both discourage altruism by their scarcity of trust.

I agree with Tialys. I don't think there should have been any flaming, but that wouldn't have happened if Kam's requests were simply honored. None of this should have happened.

to be fair, I don't think I've ever seen requests from the authors about their mods/inserts/tricks/anything in the old days, the art was too primitive to even touch upon those issues yet. the foundations were still being built. you can't compare out of context like that. plus the fact that "pen spinning politics and foreign relations" was inexistent, since there were only two (or one, depending how far back) big non-overlapping communities. -

Ok, I'm against a board war inbetween UPSB and FPSB and I think it's really stupid what happened (the whole incident). And if on msn people say, your gay cause your from fpsb or your gay cause your from upsb it's just retarded but then if they feel like going at each others throats on msn, I disagree that you should be allowed to control what they do on MSN, there is a reason why the block feature was invented and as it's 1 person, both sides know that it was not the whole board and acted by their own freewill so I don't think you can really control what people say to each other there to be honest... even tho people shouldn't be bad mouthing other spinners.

Well, I was talking strictly plagiarism. For example, Kam released his RSVP MX and people appreciated the contribution instead of shamelessly exploiting the idea for their own ends. If PS has evolved in such a way that plagiarism is condoned, then it's time to re-assess our behaviour regarding PS intellectual property.
The fact that communities are more defined now than in the past heightens the severity of plagiarism. If the plagiarizer belongs to a different community, it feels like the person is stealing from not only the spinner, but from the board itself. Different communities should be able to bounce ideas off each other. For instance, we offered the RSVP to PDS and they introduced the Com-ssa to us. But when one forum to leeches from another, the former gains undeservedly. It's the fact that people can take without compunction that bothers me. If you can accept this, then it isn't hard to understand why people flame in response.
Now, is it fair for a forum to be held accountable by the actions of a few? Of course not. But if you're looking at an apple tree with mostly healthy fruit, your attention will be drawn to the few rotten apples. People aren't smart enough to separate a few people from the majority because their bias gets in the way. That's why Zbo has/had to deal with the offenders in this case, even though the flaming occurred on MSN. -

the ppl who modified the insert didn't claim it as their own, they credited kam accordingly. that's not plagiarism. -

LOL. Settle it down, honestly, I understand that Kam was upset that somebody went against his own copyright. The part that is stupid is that people are taking this way too seriously. This is a PEN SPINNING BOARD using the HANDS to MOVE a PEN. Not the Supreme Court or United Nations, people get flamed on msn...block em. They flame you on the board, REPORT THEM. Is it really that hard a concept to grasp?
This was the risk that Kam had when releasing the authentic PSD file of the insert. It's no different than a program. They have copyright's, but people still dont pay for them. It's not different, especially if its free.

I know I ranted on this but I had no intention on directing it on FPSB but it looks like this was done directly over MSN so I don't think I'm applied to this. But seriously that's just lame if you went directly to these people and flamed them. I'm not saying I agree with the actions taken by some members but really it was taken care of.

If they credited Kam then it's still copyright infringement. There's no way to enforce this online, of course, that's why it's maintained through trust and respect. Nothing political about it. I wasn't even referring to the flaming. I agree that they should just block/delete the person though.
