Would it be possible to implement a feature that allows you to view what originally was in a post, before someone edited it? Like, just a button saying "view original post" and you could see what the person had written before he edited it. Would make it easier to follow some topics, seeing how some people write bad stuff, people comment it without quoting, then they edit it with something else and nothing makes sense anymore.

I know they have this function on some others (though custom made) forums. Would it be possible with IPB?

well then that would kill the purpose of editing, if he edited to . he probably doesn't want other people to see it

Hah, the purpose of editing is correcting mistakes and or adding to a post, not delete and hide the content. Even though those people might not want us to see it, we might still want to and should imo be able to.

yea, this should be like real life. in real life, you cannot take back something you say, you can correct it.

maybe for moderators this would be useful, but not for the public.

Why not? I hate getting to a topic just to notice it doesn't make sense anymore due to an edited post.

No need for us to see what moderators have edited into/out of a post, just what the members themselves have done.

Only few posts have that problem like the flying asian scam. Most of it is edited because they made a mistake and they dont want us to see it. Well in real life we cant take back what we talk so that doesnt mean the internet has to be similar does it? I'm against this and I think editing should be done with privacy.

It can lead people to believing different things about a member than one should. Can't think of any concrete example, but I bet you get my point.

i also reckon the mods should leave a comment saying that they have edited/deleted a post.

it does say that below your post. "this post has been edited by Outsmash"...something like that.

EDIT: look what it says below this sentence...
