you could just avoid the message..before the message it should say "for beginners" , "for noobs" , "for new spinners" or something like that.
And i also think we should give them a link to the wiki telling them to use it. -

hmm, that's very good idea
link them to wiki, board help, and tell them which section is for which threads...
very good idea -

QUOTEWelcome to UPSB (Universal Pen Spinning Board)
Here you will in time learn how to whirl and twirl the pen around your fingers. The art of PEN SPINNING.
This Notice will assume that you are a new spinner, therefore we will introduce the art from the very beginning.
Questions and Answers
Q: What tricks should i learn?
A: It is recommended that the very first tricks you learn are the "Fundementals"
Q: What are the "Fundementals"?
A: The fundementals are basic tricks that serve as a base to many other tricks. They include:
'Thumb Around'(TA)
'Sonic' 'Fingerpass' and 'Charge'
Please follow the following link to learn more about the Fundementals
http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=8
Q: What pen should i use?
A: We have two main catagories for pens : MODs and UNMODDED
Q: Whats the difference between MODs and UNMODDED?
A: MODS stand for 'modified pens/pencils' and UNMODDED are pens/pencils that have not been modified yet.
Q: OK. can you recommend me a mod?
A: I recommend the "BICTORY" as a starting pen. click link for more info: http://www.upsb.info/wiki/index.php/Bictory
Q: Whats the best MOD?
A: There is NO best MOD, everyone has their own prefrences, meaning some perfer one pen over another.
Q: I can't get this trick down. What should i do? (assuming its a fundemental trick)
A: Please follow this link and find a thread on the trick you're having a problem with. http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showforum=18
Q: Whats the 'Shoutbox'? (located on top of page)
A: That is what serves as our IM (instand messaging) here you are more than welcome to ask for help on anything you might be having a problem with.
Q: Whats 'Wiki'?
A: The 'wiki' is located on the top right corner of your browser. It is a page where almost anyone can post in (more than 20 posts) Here members of UPSB post tricks/mods/history of pen spinning. Here you will find virtually everything you need.

add link to the wiki >_>
also add this: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=194
and recommend new member to write introduction thread, and post there what he/she doesn't understand
hmm, maybe we should make like some text file, like reference for new members, with basic facts about mods (like differences between one sided and double sided mods, what mods are good for some tricks/styles), psing (that's pretty much the wiki, but to sum it all up in couple of paragraphs with links, and short explanations).
EDIT: also "ultimate answer: PRACTICE" -

oh, nice minche. i couldn't find that yesterday
but im thinking that everything should be in a single page as much as possible. If i were a new spinner who just signed up, i would hate to click on links going back and forth looking for stuff. -

you know what would be just a lot easier? compile a FAQ, make it a sticky, then PM new members the link to the faq.
