Advanced Tricks / New Trick? Helicopter

    Hey,

about a month ago I started to do an aerial that seems to be a new trick in my eyes, since I'm not able to do a breakdown for it. (I'm spinning for over 3 years now, btw.)
It's an aerial trick that differs from the usual aerial tricks, because the pen is below the hand while it is in the air.
If this is a new trick I'd call it helicopter, since it reminds me of a trick of the same name in playing devilstick.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNKwRO_jAoo
here is a short Freestyle clip where I used that trick 2 times in a row. Breakdown would be something like: Helicopter T1-T2 -> Helicopter T2-T3

I find it easiest to do it after a Charge T1 (or T2 or T3). I try to bring the pen into a horizontal position and then I release the pen with an upward hand motion, after 0.5 rotations I catch it with my fingertips (T2 for example). It can be done continuous, with switching fingers like I did in the video, reverse and you can also do it with more rotations. If you do it continuous it is important that it is done with a constant speed and that the pen height doesn't change much, so it looks like the pen is levitating and spinning constantly. You can even do it without the thumb, with 13 for example, but that is a lot harder.
What do you think about it?

    EDIT:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDEvmvf_gYw

Better Clip showing the trick itself, then a minicombo (Helicopter T1-T2 -> Helicopter T2-T3 -> Helicopter T3-T4) and then another combo containing a Helicopter Reverse.

That looks more like a thumbcharge release t1-> thumbcharge release t2, kinda like Minwoo does.

interesting trick, i guess you could also call it "Air Charge T1"

however, i think helicopter is already another trick but I'm not too sure

    hmm...that's interesting...
    a below the hand aerial...
at first, when i saw this thread, i thought you were talking about the one guy who called the thumbaround the helicopter, but then i saw the vid and was like ...o.o..ohhh
but it looks interesting....and i don't think it's ever been done before..... so it could be a new trick...

where does minwoo do it o.0...??? are you talking about minwoo's thumbcharge t1 release > thumbindex spin? cuase this looks nothing like that

you're probably thinking about the wrong naming of thumbaround -.-''

nonono, im talking about an obscure naming dating from 2004 or 05.

It looks like a thumbcharge release doesn't it? It's just palm down. I might be wrong because youtube kills the quality of the vid.

    @k2thez

sorry for the bad quality vid, I can do another clip with only the trick and no combo and also slowmo. About the Minwoo thumbcharge release, I think it does differ from that trick, because the minwoo aerial is thrown in the air, like many other aerials. The aerial I did is more pulled than thrown/pushed, because the pen stays below the hand, so the push the catch and the position of the pen while in air is different smile.gif

    @Zombo
Yeah Air Charge T1 would be an idea too, but when I thought about the name I had the problem that names like "Air Charge T1" would be somehow more connected with aerial tricks where the pen is above the hand, like it usually is in aerial tricks. Couldn't think of something more creative than helicopter lol biggrin.gif

Another vid would be great, maybe a slow-mo too, because it looks like a great palm-down-ish aerial. Oh yeah, the vid quality isn't your fault, it's youtube's fault.

I did another short video where you can see the trick better and with slowmo:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDEvmvf_gYw

First the trick itself, then a minicombo (Helicopter T1-T2 -> Helicopter T2-T3 -> Helicopter T3-T4) and then another combo containing a Helicopter Reverse.

Ahhh, I see it now. Yeah it definitely looks new, almost like an anti gravity that's released. Nice work, Lunatik! thumb.gif

I'd disagree I'm not seeing the thumbaround. I'm seeing more of a charge.

  18. Shadowserpant
    Date: Wed, Sep 10 2008 04:27:38

yes because if u look at it and think about it, a TA would go the other way

have to say, this seems more like an inverse aerial...its in the air but on the opposite side of the hand. Just my two cents,

There were a few helicopters in UPSBv2, I'm guessing that Zombo is referring to nink's trick-naming since it also came up in an old Basketball Spin thread:
    QUOTE (nink - Sat Oct 19 @ 2002 12:32 pm)
One trick I can do but not consistently is what I call a helicopter. I hold the pen in the 360 reverse position and then instead of going round the thumb it spins on the side of the index finger in the one spot (side of the index finger between the first and second knuckle)....The pen does about 15 to 20 (to be honest I have no idea how many times it spins as it spins quite fast) rotations in the one spot on the side of my finger and then I catch it between the ring and middle finger.
Looks like Indexspin Reverse with a Fulltap Reverse push:
Fulltap Reverse[p] ~ Indexspin 1-12[s][c]... just to make sure of which push is used.

    There was also this one...
    QUOTE (twiztidpyro - Tue Feb 10 @ 2004 5:06 pm)
    QUOTE (Snowfairy - Tue Feb 10 @ 2004 4:53 pm)
Basically, I was playing around with the 'Leigun' but instead of the pencil shooting forward, it shot straight up, spinning like a helicopter. Probably only something new to me, and probably something most think useless, but, humor me, I'm new and found it amusing

i do that all the time. i dont kno if its real or not though. i call it the helicopter.(original eh!). and yeah i also just like buying pen supplies and making diff. mods. i find it to be fun.
I think this is just called Vertical Leigun, could be wrong though.

...aaaanyyywaaayy.... I know I've seen the aerial in Lunatik's video before...somewhere. I want to say that someone like fratleym did this before. >_<

hmm yeah, inverse Aerial sounds good to me too biggrin.gif

    @sketching
I've sent you a clip of this aerial about one month ago in a PM already. Maybe that's why you've seen it before? biggrin.gif Or was it really someone like Fratleym?

I seem to remember seeing it in some kind of presentation video. dry.gif...maybe not.

If a name is to be decided here, I would suggest not using Inverse Aerial. Aerial is a trick type, no sense in confusing a trick type with single trick.

    SKETCHING LIVES!...and i digress

How else do you describe an aerial that goes under the hand?

  25. shoeman6
    Date: Thu, Sep 11 2008 03:45:51

I would jsut call it an upside down aireial, no one's done it before because gravity usually causes the pen to drop rofl... mellow.gif so is this gonna be a new trick? =D!

  26. Outsmash
    Date: Sat, Sep 13 2008 16:16:41

maybe not...just a variation of doing an aerial...i bet there would be more tricks which this could be executed..

  27. Freeman
    Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 22:55:48

So is that a new trick? If yes, has got an official name yet?

  28. shoeman6
    Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 23:08:35

maybe, a new ariel? reverse ariels... hmmmm if it was a new trick it shouldnt be called the helicopter because thats wat many non-ps call the thumb arround and that could cause confusion.

  29. Apple
    Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 23:12:48

I thought i the same that JC thought. lmfao I thought you ment the TA as a helicopter =P but that looks pretty cool if you were doing a mad sweet fast combo then through that ariel in smile.gif

  30. shoeman6
    Date: Fri, Sep 26 2008 23:17:35

what would a reverse helicopter look like? Im still going to thinking its not a new trick though... maybe just like a figner pas still upside down? 0 _ o
