    I've been wondering why pen spinning is not in public like, the tournaments, country battle?? But really why is it not public so more people can actually see what pen spinning is all about.

    For example, Rubik's cube is public thing and same with speed stacking why not pen spinning? I know pen spinning is a world wide thing, why is Rubik's cube is public??

    Just a thought guys, so comment why you think pen spinning is not public or your opinion why it should be public. For me it should be public so everyone can see what pen spinning is all about and it's a fun way to get rid of boredom happy.gif happy.gif

    The community isn't large enough. It is [public] to some degree. I mean look at countries where it is more popular... Korean and Japan for example. They reglarly get TV coverage, and I know the PDS hosted at least one "live" tounament. It'll happen eventually... just not yet.

    New Zealand spinners, population = Probably less than the number of fingers on my hand.

    Rubiks cubes = Well known by everyone? And... Everyone has an equal advantage (sorta), with penspinning, everyone uses different types of pens so that makes things uneven in a way.

    Its just so esoteric. And yoyoing requires modded yoyos. And thats mainstreamed. Just give it some time.
    Not bashing any Yoyo-ers

    A real life battle would be MUCH HARDER than an online battle

    real life=one chance to get a combo right

    online=hours in front of a camera until you are satisfied

    Here's what I think:

    Japan = Small
    Korea = Small
    USA = Huge

    There are tons of spinners here in the US, but they are scattered. In Japan and Korea, everyone is close to each other because their countries are so small.

    Small = easier to travel

    Got it?

    Good point I agree, I guess its about perfecting the combos. But cant u just practice outside? True, it maybe drop if u make a mistake but yea, i highly doubt ur going to spin it near a trash can or wutever.

    Im pretty sure we've been to asked be sponsored maybe a couple of times.
    But why would you?
    Pen spinning is a hobby.
    I mean i know were all hardcore, but i just think if we went public it would ruin the essence of spinning.
    I don't know.. i mean what we have right now, why would you want to change that?
    Whats wrong with what we have right now?
    If we do go down that path, were just joining the wagon.
    I mean that i that would just ruin the purity of it all, in my opinion.
    Sometimes things are better underground than mainstream.

    I like penspinning not being extremely public, being able to do something few people can do is awesome biggrin.gif

    i would like penspinning to become public, not in the sense of competitions, but actually as a form of entertainment.

    high class entertainments such as XCM and cigar box juggling and magic earn quite some money if you can get a gig.

    imagine penspinning as that sort of entertainment, going from table to table, showing people your stuff.

    as for the one try competition chance thing, maybe after 10 years we would actually be able to perform our stuff most of the time? look at yoyos. how hard is it to land a yoyo onto a string? but yet, there are 3min freestyles for competitions. think of penspinning competitions in the future with 1 minute freestyles in PUBLIC?

    I totally agree with this! happy.gif

    The Rubik's Cube has also been around for a bit longer.

    I'd like to see a live competition because it'd help with the pen spinners consistency in doing combos.

    If I can get a table and a chair, that wouldn't be a problem. wink.gif Standing might be a bit harder, though. Aargh.. I would love to do a live tournament.

    cuz you've got the skillz. biggrin.gif okay, some (or many) others are really good, too. but I'd prefer to stay in the backround and not in public. I don't want this to become a mass-sport.

    @Eriror, i'm thinking something like the 2p2h you did in the revolution collab, but at a table.

    imagine live and on stage, with a zoomed in video projected on some screen at various angles. or perhaps on a more personal level, where you're invited and paid to eat with some people if you show them some stuff.

    given your level of skill i'm sure you would be able to perform impressively without dropping? but perhaps 2 or so back up pens would be good to play safe.

    what possiblities in the future......

    kickassness. laugh.gif

    I think the more public is gets the more people will get use to it. I spin anywhere I go, even fast food places. I just sit their eating and spinning (c'mon your telling me you've never done that!). I like the underground factor, I like how it's a rare thing to see in ones lifetime. And like most of us, I do like attention it gets. If it gets more public I'm worried the "novelty" factor of it will wear off. Sure it will take a few years of society constantly seeing it to get use to it but time is getting faster every day.

    I doubt that PS will reach mainstream level; just look at parkour - like PS, it's had giant web coverage and is featured in numerous movies and ads. That is not to say, however, that PS will not breach mainstream consciousness. Most of my friends have already seen PS on the web without my prompting.

    i couldn't agree more with this. THis can relate to Rubiks cubes are my school. Over the past year Rubik's buces have become popular at my school and now many people are able to solve them, which reduced the uniqueness of being able to actually solve it.
