General Discussion / When is One Officially "Good"?

Alright, hopefully this doesn't belong in philosophy.
What specific Tricks/Hybrids/Combos do you have to be able to perform to not qualify as a beginner anymore?
And what ones do you need to know to qualify as good?
I am probably just above the category of beginner and I'd like to know when I will actually qualify as a decent PSer. -

I think people are considered good when they can come up with "good" combos. I consider anyone who can do smooth combos as "decent"..so anyone about that level should be considered good, i guess..
Someone whose bit experience can be considered good. Someone who is considered good by others can be considered good.
And i'm guessin I'l classify you pretty good..
You aint a beginner don't worry 'bout that.. -

I think your "good" when you could have atleast a few combo's without a lot of repitition.
and not doing the same thing over and over, also not 2 combo's that are based on each other. -

When other people, who know about what you are doing, say you're good.

I'm not talking so much about other people's opinions, so much as if there is one 'landmark' trick or group of tricks that you must be good to perform.

I second that. When you're able to not just amaze a non-pen spinner, but also your fellow pen spinners. -

So when is enough? -

Well, I would say if you can do it again, it's not a fluke. So, if you can do whatever your amazing thing is twice, or do something just as awesome. -

imo it all depends on the spinners/viewers definition of good. one may think certain tricks or combos will make one 'good ' or styles will make them 'good' but it really depends on how one thinks

Yeah I agree. Different people have different expectations, and will define good in a wide range of skill levels.
Like when I first started, I thought you just had to be able to smoothly link different tricks to be considered good.
I can do that now, but I don't consider myself as good because there are lots of other people who are better than I am.
Of course I might be too hard on myself and shouldn't think this way.
I read a quote that once said, "Find out you are good at, and do not worry about what others think", but it is impossible to not to care about what others think...
And plus, I think this negativge attitude helps me want to improve more to become 'good'. -

It depends, each persons idea of good is different.
So to one person a spinner may be good, but to another that spinner may not be good.
I know that I am semi-known as "good", although I don't consider myself good at all. -

its all different man. there isnt any tricks that show if you're beginner or not. even if you do know tricks singled out or hybrids/combos, you have to be able to do it smoothly, and find a way to transition it into your combos easily. i can do bakfall smoothly, but i still cant manage to do it on on-camera combos.

I don't think there's a landmark trick cause anyone can just learn the fundamentals to season their hands and then start practising for that trick and all they know will be the landmark trick and fundamentals and they can still not be smooth and not come up with good combos.
I think you need the opinions of different people and see what the majority thinks. Then after awhile, come back again and ask if you've improved. -

i believe being "good" is when you can free style, and not end up running out of stuff and repeating your self over and over...

yea..
to me i consider "good" or "average" is like
smooth spinning, somewhat constant speed of spinning. like not fast, then slowing down then fast again.. i donno haha
good linkage of tricks
yea good free styling as well
