Is there More to Life than Pen Spinning?

'An unexamined life is not worth living.' - Socrates (Greek Philosopher)

    Discuss.

I believe that you mean one who spins a pen has no life?(correct me if I'm wrong)

No, I don't see how spinning a pen equals having no life.

It's just like me and my Rubik's cube. Every time I solve it, people stare in wonder. Of course, there are a couple of people who say, "You no-life person" or something along those lines.

Seriously, those who say that spinning a pen means you don't have a life are wrong. They're probably jealous of us being able to perform those tricks.

Life is what you want it to be. If you do what you love and do everything you want to, then you have a good life. Im failing...

    Is there more to life?

    Yeah.. alot.

First of all, you gotta visit the world. It'll be a waste to not leave your country even once and not see the rest of the world.

second, you can't die virgin. Ok enough said.

Third, you gotta experience the other cultures. Know more.

    4th, earn money.

Yea well that's what i think. It may not be the same to you.

I believe there is more to life than pen spinning. It doesn't mean I think pen spinning is meaningless, but if you spend your whole life 'only' pen spinning you won't accomplish much, unless your Bonkura.

I'm with Glam, and yes we all should travel the world. In this moment in time we are a global community. Hence we should all venture out even just to go to pen spinning gatherings. After my exams (December) I will be going to Singapore to catch up with relatives, and I would love to attend a pen spinning gathering and check out the pen spinning scene in Singapore.

    hahahaha, nope

But yeah.... uh, penspinning isn't somethign that a person can really make a living on. Kam was working with spinz and i'm sure got a bit of cash from that, but it's not enough to make money and get a lot of profit from.
So it's sorta how Mystic had put it...

What do you define life to be?

I enjoy hanging out with my friends from time to time and then penspin as a hobby, perhaps i'm over-obsessed with it at this point, but i realize that it's still just a hobby that i have on the side of everything else that I do in life.

Now if all you do is stay at home and go on upsb/practice/film all day long without paying ANY attention to schoolwork, friends, family, etc... then I do believe you need a life because penspinning is not a life. It's a hobby... or a mini-life at most.

So have a life, and then put penspinning on the side.
Just cause you penspin doesn't mean you don't have a life.

there's definitely more to life than psing. i mean, its a lot to most of us here, but it shouldn't take up all of our life. and what is penwish's "real" job?

Then he'll be only earning money from us.. and other PS boards.. which I don't think is enough to support 4 people and their families.

Why would he be the only exception?

Yeah, seriously, just because he said he wanted to "devote his life to pen spinning" doesn't mean he doesn't have a life.

If you take a look out there, there are professionals that have dedicated or dedicate their whole life in one field such as art, music, science, etc.

I wouldn't exactly call them a "no-lifer" just because they spend their lives doing one thing.

What I would define as having "no life" would be if you spent your whole life doing nothing.

Therefore, everyone of us here actually have a life because we all pen spin and do something, whether it's considered meaningful or not.

Errr, well hes the only exception because he's the only pen spinning legend out there, well to my knowledge.

But I can't talk/judge, I am a newbie. "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

I feel there is more to life than penspinning but I also feel than penspinning cannot be separated from life. This kind of reminds me of break dancing... Is there more to life than breakdancing for serious breakers(not pros)? People dance for many reasons, on top of expressing themselves- being rather, a way of life; coping with the daily stresses for example. Of course penspinning isn't dancing.... but it is still a form of expression. So the question was: is there more to life than penspinning? I feel that it is whatever pencil spinning means to you: whether it be spinning for fun, or spinning to express, escape from daily worries, vent, etc... (of course it's usually a combination). Soo... my feeling is that it is the meaning you make of penspinning yourself, which will ultimately determine the way in which you define the way you read the question.... in reality, it is different for each and everyone of us.

    yes. =P

i find 'no' hardly equates to a discussion. i know you write a lot and i'm interested to hear what you're thinking. remember that 'An unexamined life is not worth living' (Socrates) so please elaborate and discuss.
