[Tutorial]:
1)
Gather your materials:
A - Pilot G3 Cap
B - Pilot G3 Body
C - Pilot G3 Tip
D - Papermate Flexgrip Ultra Tip
E - Pentel RSVP Inktube
F - Toothpick
G - Papermate Flexgrip Ultra Inktube (section)
H - Pilot G2 Small Clicker Piece
I - Pilot G2 Small Clicker Piece (extra)
J - Pilot G2 Large Clicker Piece
K - Pentel RSVP Grip
L - Pilot G2 Large Body Piece
M - Papermate Flexgrip Ultra Spring
N - Extra Grip Sections
2)
Prepare your pieces (bottom piece is before, top piece is after):
A - Remove the clip from the cap and the rubber stopper in the inside of the cap. You may file down the stub left by the clip if you so choose.
B - Remove the back cap and shave down all the bumps on the front of the body. Shave off the threads aswell and make sure that it is shaved down enough for the G2 piece to fit on with an insert snuggly. Also, at this time, you may choose to rub off the text and logo.
C - Cut the threads off of the G2 piece and the back of the G2 piece only right up until the vertical ridges begin. DO NOT cut too far or the mechanism will not work.
D - On one small clicker piece, cut 1/3 of a cm off of the long portion.
E - On another small clicker piece, completely remove the ridges and wrap tape around it.
F - Cut almost a cm off of the large clicker piece.
3)
Screw the taped clicker piece into the G3 tip, and push the rsvp grip into the G3 cap. Follow by pushing the G3 tip/clicker piece combination into the grip that is in the cap. You should now have what is on the left.
4)
Put the clicker pieces in the G2 piece as shown and then attach the G2 piece and the insert to the G3 body. Put an insert in the G3 body aswell.
5)
In area indicated, wrap a combination of tape and a small insert. There should be enough tape wrapped around to create a snug fit for the G3 cap (to reduce rattling), yet loose enough for it to go up and down to retract.
6)
Wrap tape around the front of the inktube about an inch away from the tip (you could also sub out the tape with a dab of hotglue around the inktube. Tape is known to slip and slide on the inktube after constant use). Next attach the Flexgrip inktube secion to the end of the RSVP inktube with part of the toothpick. it should be long enought for the inktube tip to be exposed when clicked and hidden when unclicked. Then wrap your insert around the back of the inktube. All of this should fit in the assembled body.
7)
With the inktube and spring inside the assembled body, hotglue/superglue the Flexgrip tip into the G3 body as shown.
8)
Using any means necessary, apply your gripping of choice to the front of the pen. If you so choose to do so, you may add grips to the cap by shaving off the clip knub. This will alter balance so be careful.
9)
Attach the cap to the back of the pen with a dab of superglue (careful to not let any get in the inside of the cap. This could ruin the fluidity of the retracting and/or mess up the look of the mod when complete). If done correctly, the cap should just cover the tape on the G2 piece.
10)
You have just made Guitrum's G3 Mod! -

How stable is the back cap? Like can you do infinites while holding onto the cap? Or will the pen eventually fly off?
-

if you dab alittle superglue in the large g2 clickerpiece for added reinforcent, it wont fly off at all. and if you put the right amount of tape, it wont rattle at all.
@Gavin - combination of wire cutters, kife and careful sanding -

if you use the retractable version, it includes the spring, but you are sure to have a spare spring around somewhere so you can use the capped version
the tip MUST BE METAL!!!
@longhorn - if you make the insert wide enough and dont shave down the body too much, then it is a snug fit! also, tape is a good thing to help the body be thicker!!!!
so far i have had no issues with anything flying off -

brilliant, a clean retractable mod
UPSB needs more tuts like these -
Date: Wed, Nov 5 2008 06:13:55
if you cant get the ultra tip you can sub it with a signo
attach it by removing the little nub from a m&m cap and drilling a hole in it. then screw the tip on.
attach it however you like...i just tickend mine with tape so its easier to take off if i ever wanted to. hot glue prolly works better tho
removing the nub, all you do is get an x acto knife and stick it in the crack and start cutting through those little plastic things holding the nub. -

i acctually really like how it spins. the difficulty is rather high, mainly because theres alot of cutting and retractable mechanisms are tricky. -

I just made this..and the large G2 clicker piece is really loose..the whole cap moves with it..

Date: Sat, Apr 11 2009 01:02:50
Nice tutorial and mod, looks cool.
Looks a little hard to make but challenges are fun (just not when u waste lots of pens )
In the first and second pics of the completed mod, what grips did you add? it looks different from your last pic -

any sub for the Papermate Flexgrip Ultra both tip and spring?
-
Date: Thu, Apr 16 2009 23:50:47QUOTE (khaotic @ Apr 16 2009, 07:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>any sub for the Papermate Flexgrip Ultra both tip and spring?
you can use any spring basically, just make sure it isnt too big and you wuld have to adjust its distance from the tip. For the tip i think tek posted a way to sub it with a signo. Like use the little nub from a kt/ct/mmc and glue it on somehow. -

Any way to quickly file down the G3?
I dun want carpel tunnel, or and I don't wanna spend So long filing again.
Can you release the inserts?
Anyway, I might just recycle my f1r3fly..
I'll make it.
EDIT: okay, I found a way to quickly file down the g3, and just made this.
I was expecting a mod that looked good, but didn't spin very well.
I was wrong
It's sexy, RT, and spins like a dream.
Way to go.

it's not okay that you revived a 7 month old thread. -

True, but report next time.
Rule #5:
5. Do not revive old threads UNNECESSARILY
@sarugio: it should work, though i think a G3 grip is slightly lighter than an RSVP grip -
