Pen Modifications / A new grip idea

This is totally a good idea

Putting on grips sucks. Personally, I hate it. Some people may not have this problem, but I tend to steer clear of mods that say things like "Grips are very hard to get on, but possible!"

While bitching over putting some grips on a new mod I made, I hatched an ingenious idea.Plasti dip It's a little rubber coating that's self-applied. It's mainly used for tools but I think it's definitely worth a shot. Think about it: just tape off what you don't want coated and then just dip it in. I think with enough practice, making designs would be possible. If it isn't think enough, just let it dry and dip it again, hell, put some grips on then dip it!

After admiring my own brilliance, I went to my garage to find some. I searched high and low for that Plasti Dip and alas, I found it!

But it was all dried up

And so I cried for 13 hours straight.

Anyway, I'm poor so go buy some and test it out for us. It should be at most hardware stores.

ummmm messy and hard to make it multi colored while doing it accurate.

Ah, this was discussed in the RD on UCPSB. I don't think anyone posted up any final results, but sure! It's worth trying out more.

Yeah I don't think Multi colored would work too well either.
It's not too messy though, I've used it for other things. All you need to do is make sure you have some way to hang it where you're done. And most pens have clips so that mostly taken care of.

    Neato! A few questions

    -Does it stay on well?

-Does it work as good as other grips for tricks like infinities?

-How long does it take to dry?

-About how much weight does it add?

    Anyway, thanks fella.

so what does this stuff actually do?

make it easier to slide grips on pen?
make it easier to slide grips over grip?
make the grip itself not so grippy?
make it harder to slide grips on pen?
make it harder to slide grips over grip?
    make the grip itself grippier?

i dont get how this stuff works.. LOL

It gives a new color, and probably also a slightly different texture. If you dip a cap, I'd guess it becomes kind of grippy.

so it gives a layer of grip as subs of pen grips?

I haven't tried it yet, but think of it as "liquid grip". you dip a part of the pen you want gripped in there and you leave it to dry.

I heard about this being used to cover the blade of butterfly knives, but not as actual grips. From what I know though, It is a fairly messy process.

Didn't look too messy in the awesome, awesome video dxchsdrgo posted.

I'm really dying for someone to try this out.

Does it ruin the cap though or just gives it an extra layer?

it could ruin it if any got in the inside, but if you cover all the holes at the top of the caps before you dunk it, it should be fine.
    it just rubber coats things.

that sounds really fun. maybe we could make some molds of hggs and other random grips so we didnt have to trade all the time

That wouldn't work, the stuff that this discussion is covering isn't anything like an HGG, Signo, or Hyper Jell or... basically it's not like any of the grips we use.

This doesnt actualy "create" a grip, like the kind that we use. (hgg, rsvp, etc.)
Its just like paint... except instead of covering it in a layer of color... it covers in a layer of rubber tongue.gif
its not so much something you can take off of what you put it onto.
and... an hgg mold!?!? i would LOVE to see you, or anyone, creat a cylindrical mold like that.

take it o a jeweler? I think they could do it... but it'd be pricy, and hard to get the plasti dip consistantly through the mold.
