Pen Modifications / Rubberized barrel = good?

Need some advice...

I'm still pretty new to pen spinning and I've been practicing with a Bictory with a rubberized barrel like that found on the "Bic Soft Feel" or the "Bic Ultimate" because it seems to be easier to spin with compared to a more slippery barrel like the regular Bic. I was just wondering if there is a downside to getting used to a rubberized pen? Are there tricks to learn in the future that require a more slippery pen? Thanks in advance for any input.

ive noticed that with grippy barrels its harder for me to do certain tricks, but if you like it keep spinning with it. nobody can tell you what to spin

    shadows might get messy.

i started off with a soft feel pen too, and thats how i learned my sonics/tw. sonics. its probably a good pen to start with. not like i've upgraded much XD still spinning a smooth-body bictory.

A grippy body would increase friction, which has its pros and cons.

The pen won't slip as easily, so you might get more consistent with certain tricks. I find passes and arounds work pretty well with grippy pens...probably some other types of tricks as well.

However, for things like ThumbSpins or tricks that require the pen to spin multiple rotations on top of a surface, the grippy body will reduce the number of spins you can do (this, however, can be countered with extra weight and length on the pen, like the grip aviaire).

What a grippy body is not good for are combos that require sliding as a means to reposition your pen. So any continuous Around trick with only one rotation would fall in this category.

So yeah...in the future, you might want to switch back to non-grippy pens, but for now, if your grippy pen has enough momentum, you should be ok

i learned the shadow with a zt without middle grip, the metal of the zt was really slippery which helped me learn how to "release" the pen happy.gif

Tornado mod has a rubber barrel.

Really good cause if my hands become too smooth to spin other mods, I use that.

Yeah I personally use a grippy pen on my mod. I've tried spinning with a smooth pen and it just slips too much for me, probably because I have dry hands. so grippy pens seem to be working fine for me smile.gif but yeah, I'd agree with Kam there wink.gif

I also have grips on my mod! I don't like the feel of a slippery pen. It feels like it might just fly away, but I guess I'll have to adjust soon...
