Well, that one thread brought up by JIRO reminded me of my idea for publishing a book on PS. Of course, it wouldn't be a tutorial book, since that is already covered by the Internet. Instead, I thought of other material such as "self-help" advice, scientific analysis, encyclopedia, theoretical papers, etc. If there were books on these types of information, I would definitely go out and buy them.

For example, the self-help advice would be like articles that describe the thought process of refining tricks and combos, or understanding how the learning process works and taking advantage of the individual's learning strengths to decrease the time spent on learning.
An encyclopedia would basically be a big book of facts. All imaginable data on pens, mods, spinners, events, etc. Wow, it would take a very long to write something like this.
Theoretical papers would be interesting to read too. For me anyways. I was kinda working on a XY Theory but I'm too lazy/busy to work on it. Who knows... I might get on it later on in life. But other theoretical papers would be interesting to see.

A pen made for spinning like the other book. If the pen was nice I would buy the book. That would be the most important thing for me since all the pen spinning information you need can be found for free on the internet. Since you seem to like video tutorials I would suggest that you make a DVD with tutorials instead of a book.

as a book...it should have some interesting information to keep the reader intruiged

    -interviews?
-philosophy (why we spin the pen lol)
    -history
-discussion of the "culture"/global community of penspinners

I would buy a book on penspinning biggrin.gif

Well it would be a book in the sense that the pages are printed, bound and then mailed out because that probably costs the least. The problem is that very few people are willing to write due to its time-consuming nature. I've shelved the article I've been writing for the same reason. I only work on it when I feel really motivated. For now, individual papers seem far more feasible than a book. It would be nice for someone to take the completed RD articles, add finishing touches and convert them to PDF. If there was enough submitted material then someday we could make a book.

Interviews and history would be really nice to have in it, so that people know a little bit about where penspinning came from. You could have pages describing the trick families maybe, or have a list of every known trick somewhere at the back.

A good wiki would be equivalent to a book imo. Plus the wiki has the added bonus of being kept up to date. But if there ever was a book i'd get a copy :>

Now that would be awesome, yet I cannot help but think that this or any book at all would be as good as completely useless. Another problem, atleast with a WT book/DVD, would be the language.

i think a WT 2007 DVD would be pretty boring to a just starting our PSer.

afterall, he will not be able to tell the difference between the combos. this is not meant to offend anyone, but it is true that everything will look the same to a non-pser, and more or less the same to a new pser.

maybe bonkura or fratleym would stand out, and some of the chinese people, but besides that, it may get boring after awhile. no one can really watch 2 hrs of the same thing(as they see it) continuously without getting bored. sleep.gif

on the other hand, this would be useful for some penspinners looking for inspirationl. the breakdowns would help alot. laugh.gif

A WT '07 DVD wouldn't be anything like an introduction to penspinning, it would be for advanced penspinners. It could just as easily be released on the internet though, a zip with all the WT combos, breakdowns, and some PDF with interviews and the like.
