Tutorials Pending Approval / Venom BK prototype

Well, I decided i don't really have time to finalize my prototype right now, there are too many things to do, too many ideas to try, and I rather just focus my time on new things rather than retouch little details. So, I'm putting up this quick tutorial, so those of you who want may try it (and hopefully improve on it).

This is NOT a pen mod...but rather a pen case...in case you are unsure ^^

    Venom BK
    -------------------------------------------------
    Materials List:

    2 Venom Energy bottles
1 Honest Tea or Honest Ade bottle
    colored rubberband (optional)
foam (I used 1 cm sheets, but I think 0.5 cm might work better. The harder the consistency the better)

    Spoiler:

Design Schema should help a lot

    A~H = Foam pieces
I = Metal cap from Venom Energy
J = top section of Honest Tea
K = middle section Honest Tea
L = bottom section from Honest Tea

Step 1. Cut out the bottom from one Venom bottle (to get part M), sand the edges if you value your hands
Step 2. Cut out the top from the other Venom bottle (part N), sand the edges
Step 3. Cut the middle section of Honest Tea (part K), but on the bottom side, don't cut too close to the divider, since you'll need some plastic there for attaching the bottom container to the venom bottle. This should also give you part L.
Step 4. Cut off the very top of the Honest Tea, so you have a funnel like plastic shape (part J). Cut it so the smaller opening fits nicely with the venom cap, and the wider opening fits nicely on the venom body.
Step 5. Now take a big sheet foam and start cutting pieces A~H. Since this is a prototype, you'll have to figure out the dimensions yourself. The ones I tried are not perfect either.

Tip for cutting round shapes: I use the edge of the venom bottle I cut as a blade to cut the foam. Just press it against the foam and start turning it back and forth. It will give you a quick and clean foam cut. This works for pieces C, E, F, and H. For piece A I used the bottle cap as a blade. The other pieces required using a pen knife to cut.

Another Tip: pieces B and D are just rectangular foam pieces wrap around. It's much easier than getting a really thick foam or cutting several foam disks.

Step 6. Hot glue parts I and J.
Optional: Add rubberband rings on the outside to cover the hot glue. If you do this, might as well add some rubberband to part L to match the color.
    Step 7. place part B inside M.
Step 8. place the following inside part N in order: H, G, F, E, D, C. You need to glue part G onto H so it's not loose.

Now just put the parts together, sand out any hard edges to prevent cutting and scratching, and you're done.

...while i think the case you made, Kam, is really creative and well thought out...there is a much much simpler solution: A small tackle box used for fishing (found at walmart).

The guys who met up with me at the vancouver gathering know what im talking about, but heres a picture of one of the many small tackle boxes i use to transport pens safely.

Slim hard case, holds 8 pens, even has 3 smaller slots near the bottom to hold extra caps etc....and it costs like $4cad

Sorry, Kam, didn't mean to rain on your parade :\

'Venom Energy' is the name of the drink...when I say Venom Energy bottle...i'm referring to its bottle.

Please the first post again, I updated the materials list with links to the beverages.

Hmm...it's okay...I guess it's my own fault for not stating the purpose of this case in the first place. I guess I'm not really going for the ease-of-use as much on this one. This case is more meant to have a 'wow' factor than something you would carry around your school.

It's really supposed to be something over the top...that you would use to show your audience that you mean business. More for paid demos/shows than your casual spinning.

i'm sorry if that was unclear. I know it doesn't look as professional as I make it sound, but this is a prototype. Ideally this would have a clean design so people can't tell it's made out of bottles...lol.

Anyways...as far as the box you mentioned, i've used it before for carrying pens. It's simple and convenient, but I don't like the noise of pens moving around the box. I also don't like my pens touching each other, as they could scratch each other's bodies if they are not completely smooth.

Ahhh, okay, makes more sense. If you're going to present to an audience then my tackle box is definitely not appropriate lol.

When i carry around my fancy pens i usually wrap them in microfibre cloth...it cuts down the capacity of the case but it keeps the scratches away thumb.gif

I think I mentioned it is meant to be over the top. I initially planned for it to only hold 1 pen, but that was kind of too impractical. Again, it is supposed to be extravagant and get people's attention...not intended for classroom environment, but more like professional occasions.

Now, if I can only find a way to add a black light and some smoke... rolleyes.gif

    Spoiler:

Hmmm....nice video Sadistic, but not quite what I had in mind. The case is more like a show off prop to catch people's attention at the beginning of a show...then it would be push aside and the focus would be on PS. Although incorporating the case into a routine isn't a bad idea...reminds me of one of the clips on Bonkura's solos. The thing I would change though is the bottle shaped bottle (ideally people should not recognize the case as a bottle) and change the opening mechanism to be a push and open instead of unscrewing the cap.

It is a smaller circle of foam that you place in the middle of the circle you cut into F. It keeps the pens from touching.

no, unfortunately most energy drink bottles are made of a thin layer of aluminum(?), which is really weak and can be crushed with your hand.

The bottles used for this is really sturdy and can take a beating. If you can find a similar bottle that is tough, I guess it would work.

I used a dremel, it's faster. But no matter what you use, you'll still need to file it down to make it perfectly straight.

Hint: use a ruler to measure the distance from the bottom to the cutting line, then draw a straight line with a permanent marker before cutting. It's really hard to cut a straight line without some reference.

As for the Honest Tea bottles...I noticed I see them everywhere now that I pay attention. Shouldn't be too hard to find them. Even the gas station near my house has them xD (keep in mind I'm in California, so I'm not sure they're as easy to find in other parts of the US)

Oh I c I'm in california too. I'll look for them at chevron or something.

Does ordinary sand paper work for sanding it down? I know a file will probably work fine but I would think there is the possibility that the bottle will be sharp enough to rip the paper and possibly cut ur fingers.

Sorry for the revival but this is just amazing I need one. Just last weekend I found the Venom bottles for a good price. I wanna make the case really bad (easier variation), but I don't know where to find Honest ade tea bottles. Is there any national store (like walmart) that carries them. Also if not, Is there any other bottle that would make a good sub, it doesnt really even have to be a bottle just a connecter thing that holds the 2 venom bottles together?

Honest Tea/Ade bottles are flat under their labels. Vitamin water bottles have those bumps under the label (like many drink bottles do) to make the bottle look bigger than they actually are.

I think you'll have a hard time using them as substitutes.

Honest Tea/Ade bottles are flat under their labels. Vitamin water bottles have those bumps under the label (like many drink bottles do) to make the bottle look bigger than they actually are.

I think you'll have a hard time using them as substitutes.

Thanks but I was going to use vitamin water top instead of Honest top not the middle tongue.gif....but I'm still going to have to find a way to connect the bottles in the middle.
