1/5/08 UPDATE:
----------------
I am currently working on a number of them, I cannot really give a good time-frame when I'll get these out exactly.
I'm doing them as i can, when i can, and when my f---ing computer will let(damn freezing)
I'll be hosting them on UPSB as well.
Thx for the feedback btw.
----------------
I've been finding that I have been getting more and more requests for me to take a look at peoples mods.
Not only other's, but pens that have been somewhat famous that people who are new to spinning haven't heard of yet.
Lately there has been a lot of blind "pen-fawning" with the amount of Japanese mods and very up-style kind of pen mods.
My idea is that I would simply just start a basic review process, non-biased, simply going over the pros and cons.
I've been modding for over 2 years as well and on the research team for pens and modifications. (credibility plug )
Things I would cover would mainly consist of:
+ Modding Process
- Average Cost of Parts
- Special tools(Recommended tools if applicable)
- Overall Build Quality
- Difficulties Encountered
- Sub-types that could be used
+ Aesthetics
- Room for Customization
+ Spinning
- Weight/Length
- Weight Distribution
- Trick Advantages/Disadvantages
- Mini-Combo views
+ Overall Appeal
- Recommendation for which type of spinner (Beginner, Transitional, Advanced, etc..)
These would all only be 3-5 Minute long videos that would be released periodically.
I just would like to know if anyone would be interested in it or not. -

I would be very intrested
it'd save from making useless mods that turn on to spin horribly *cough* -

i think it would be very cool once you get started on it
as long as 10091823123 other people dont try to do the same thing for each and every mod you do it on... -

I think it's a good idea, I mean, what do we have to lose? It can't hurt to have something like this running.

Sounds like a good idea to me ^^ It'll be nice hearing some reviews on mods before you get them, just to make sure they fit you, or w/e~
Voted Yes ^^ -

This would be a highly helpful thing to do.
I voted yes. -
Date: Sun, Dec 28 2008 02:05:03
wow, everyone voted yes
i voted yes if only 1/few people do it
otherwise it could get messy
maybe a stickied mod review thread?
i know that eso has done a few
i wont put up the vid, since its not mine, but i'll post the link
Eso- dr. KT review
he rambles a bit... -

it sounds like a good idea... but you have to be careful to keep it ENTIRELY unbiased.. because ESPECIALLY when it gets to pen mods its all about personal feel and stuff.. thats why there is no one perfect mod...
i would also recommend a section that lists what mods it spins similar to/ feels similar to. -

I think this is a good idea, I don't usually get much mods so it would be nice seeing a review before you make them.

can we do something like this too?
i mean video reviews are cool but
alot of the people usually dont watch the whole thing, if at all
i think something like a pen review section will be more useful with
star rating and short reviews -

go for it imatt.:]
but there will be some people who will complain about it and say its biased or god knows what, so u better prepare for that -

How about a section where the new pen is compared with other famous pens (Dr. KT, RSVP MX, etc.)? As in comparing length, weight, etc. -

That could definitely be a possibility, more than likely the video wouldn't cover it, but in the actual hard pictures that's definitely a possibility. -

Thats what i suggested ...

Sounds like a great idea, but PLEASE make sure to keep the vids completely unbiased, so people can figure out if they like a mod or not by themselves.

what's wrong with a lot of people making reviews on one mod? More opinions are better than just one. -

who would wanna vote for no? I say yes.
Okay, iMatt, you got very good points. Yes, if it's a good mod, one that you think is good, then you should do it. Video Mod Review is a good way of showing how Mod is. Usually with pictures, you can't really show the quality of the pen other than looks. For example, picture shows only one single side of the pen, and is usually shown from the diagonal of which the pen looks the best. Although you can really show how good the pen spins, the video still is much more persuasive tahn just pictures and description.
Also comparing it to the other pen is much more better when using video
I also have 2 years in pen modding, I don't spin much anymore nor do i mod, but i still got good idea of stuff.
About "Pen-fawning" i think you are right. A lot of people do a lot of stuff on pen mod, and these days, Japanese do a lot of pen fawining in their blogs.
Although many Japanese are too obsessed with Dr. KTs, that they make mods that are very similar to Dr. KTs. Which is something im not very happy with. Of coruse there are Japanese who make cool mods, but people who just make slightly different version of Dr.KT is lame. -

@SJ, its only 3-5 minutes long..
EDIT:
Yeap. im yay on video tuts. Would rather watch and listen than read a whole chunk of text.
EDITEDIT:
Maybe include your personal opinion as well. Like, towards the back. And state its your opinion too so people won't think that the mod is actually bad or good or something like that. -

Voted for Yes.
Tricky parts during the modding of the pen will surely be useful, since the user step-by-step and slowly guides with his voice and action via the video. -

Yes, this would be pretty useful when deciding on whether or not to get a mod.
