Okay guys, we're giving you a sneak peak of JC & me goofing around on stage of a project for Pentel!
We're going to be advertising their new line of pens.

The people doing this project are 3 NYU students who have to create a commercial. Pentel is having this advertisement/marketing contest to see who can come up with the best commercial/advertisement and be able to spread it around the best. So these 3 NYU students decided to do something penspinning based because they wanted to bring excitement into it and be different than the more 'green'-based commercials that everyone else seems to be doing.
They contacted Kam after having seen his pentrix website and asked him if he knew any good, outgoing spinners in the NY area who could go down to NYU's campus during the weekends over the course of a few weeks. He IMed me on MSN and asked me the same question, figuring that I'd know more about the spinners in NY. I thought of 3 people (sorry to everyone else
): mhig, huroni, and xero
mhig, I kinda figured was too far away since he has trouble with going down to even the NYC gathering... so to come down during the weekends over and over again... would be too much for him =\ although he is the best is NY

So I suggested Xero, very interactive and a decent spinner. After discussing it with Kam for a bit, I kinda just threw myself in there =P even though I'm a horrible spinner... but I had wanted to go for the experience and thought it would be fun.
So Kam e-mailed them back for us saying that we would both be interested, attached a clip of each of us spinning, and then they continued to keep in contact with us after that. Namely Xero.
From there, we went to their dorm to discuss the scripts and how we're going to choreograph all the different clips that we filmed, and then moved to the filming site where we filmed for a solid 6-7 hours with them.
The clip above was made during our break times in between when we wanted to just mess around, and spin using their set up, cause it was made so nicely... Massive amounts of lighting, solid black sheet covering the table, etc...
So.... hopefully this unnecessarily long response answers most of your questions...

lol owned. Did you guys mod the pens which you spun? (not the ones in the video of course). They look weird, but, just asking...ya know?
By the way, thanks JC. I don't know what I would do if I was being filmed for 6-7 hours straight. No offense taken buddy ^^ -

we were allowed to mod it as long as it didn't change the outside appearance of it...... so i personally didn't mod mine too much cause there really wasn't much i could do with the marker that i had to spin...

Well, pentel wants to advertise more 'green' pens as that is what everyone seems to be doing nowadays... going 'green'
and these pens are made of at least 50% recycled material i believe... and so pentel wants these pens to be advertised because of that and stuff....
but the 3 nyu students decided to take a different approach at these 'recycology' pens and make it seem more fun while recycling rather than being green while writing
and so their new lines of pens are mainly just made with the idea of 'recycling' behind them... not spinning
the cool lines and hyper g's are decent to spin, whereas the other ones are eh, not as much... -

Not less plastic, just recycled plastic...
Like... think of it this way I guess...
There's real wood furniture, and then compressed woodchip furniture that Ikea uses that is nice and cheap...

I'm not entirely sure, but our commerical may go onto TV as a real commercial...
The winning team of 3 NYU students would then also be awarded $5000, and of that, they're going to give just 5% of it to each me and Xero. So $250 to each of us for our help.
But if we win and can get onto TV, that's more than enough of a reward for me but of course, the extra spending cash is always a bonus =P

1) Hell yes. I will post a thread in the GD when everything has been launched.
2) What do you think we spun the pens for? Haha, but in all seriousness it was aimed to be "stylish", not childish.
3) Yes. You can order them online or find them in stores in the stationary aisle. -
