    Hello everyone!
I've just started my long journey to the shining pen-spinning summit, and quite accidentaly found out that it is much easier (for me at least) to do the fundamentals with pencils than with pens- probably because they are not so heavy. But I'm not sure whether pencils would be good for more advanced tricks, so could you please help me with this? Thanks very much in advance cool.gif
P.S. is there a good Wiper tutorial anywhere in the internet?

Pencils are a lot better then normal pens, what is good for advanced tricks are mod. Normal pens don't have the weight.

Although you can still do advanced tricks with pencils, it is significantly harder which some spinners find enjoyable

Fundamental are easy to do with Pencils, yes. This is because the long length and the light weight, but as you advance, you'll find that heavier and longer PENS make it easier to do advanced tricks or in other words "cheat" at tricks. It's really hard to do really advanced tricks with PENCIL. Check out Eriror's pencil spinning to give yourself a brief idea about advanced pencil spinning laugh.gif .

by the way, eso provides good wiper tutorials.

    Here's a wiper tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tsi4n2K4Z-A

Some people like doing advanced tricks with pencils but normally people use mods. Makes it easier to do tricks with.

Pencils are easier than normal pens but i would highly recommend buying or making a spinning pen because it will make a very noticeable difference

I would say that pencils are easier to spin than regular pens, but modded pens are better for doing advanced tricks.

Depends on what you're spinning, in the height of my pencil spinning an MX was too heavy.

yea, it all depends on what you are used to. A pencil might be fine now, but If you try to move back to a pencil after spinning a heavy pen for a while, it will feel much lighter because your fingers have strengthened. If you really want to have a pencil that you can spin, I would try a mechanical pencil mod.

Pencils are better than a lot of unmodded pens because they have even weight—most pens have heavy tips or heavy caps or some strange weight in the middle of the body that makes doing tricks for the first time a lot easier. Pen mods are generally pens modified to have more even weight among other things, and their increased momentum makes it easier to do more advanced tricks. The way I see it, it is easier to go from a lighter pen(cil) to a heavier mod than it is to go the other way, so keep using the pencil as much as you want.

Yeah I find pencils are harder to do most tricks with than "normal" pen spinning pens. But if you train with a pencil then go to a pen spinning pen, the trick seems alot easier XD

I hate pencil (include ZebraF3000) except for multiple thumbspin. I always use my MX, the flow is harder to get but once you get it, harder to loose. ( Sorry for mistakes, I haven't speak english for quite long wink.gif )

Well if you are going to use pencils to spin you should get one the length as long as 2 rsvps I've tried it before and its very helpful too do tricks with them.

What? You don't need some special pencil, if you're going to spin a pencil then just spin a pencil.

I would make your own. It's alot cheaper, and usually better for spinning if it's made for personal style. My first pen mod was an RSVP MX, which I loved. Give that a try.

try adding to the ends to make it hevier. My parents are both doctors so we get alot of random pens with drug names on them. Try rummaging around to see what you can find. If you find two of the same pen, try and use it's tip/grip on each side to add weight. It doesn't even need to be from a pen! I use .23 cali ball bearings to weigh my pens a bit.

Grab 2 round pencils erasers, and put 2 erasers on one on the pencils, works decently.

    Date: Thu, Feb 12 2009 04:13:14

I started out using pencils but after a while it gets hard to use because pencils are very light. You should use a normal pen if you don't have a mod because they are heavier than pencils happy.gif

  23. mssuxsoup
    Date: Mon, Feb 16 2009 14:42:59

you cant buy mods from normal stationary stores. you either have to look up how to make and get the pens and make it yourself, or buy the mods online like on penwish.
btw, i like getting 2 eraser parts and sticking it on a pencil and then sticking grips on both ends so i have equal balance and i do wiper combos

I suggest starting off with a heavy pen when you first start off, since it kind of trains your fingers for the advanced tricks. When you use a heavy pen or something like a drumstick, for a while, and then switch to a pencil, it will feel like a feather since your so used to the pen. At least thats how I started out. laugh.gif

Uhm no ... I don't think he should start off with a heavy pen. What? A new penspinner starting off with a Dr. KT will screw themselves over when they find out they need a pen with 'more weight'. If you are new and learning fundamentals, pencil is the way to go.

Light > heavy is easier than heavy > light. Same with thin > thick IMO.

Of course does tape have weight biggrin.gif But I like more grips on the ends instead of the tape, because I think it's a lot easier to balance the pen/pencil with grips rather than tape smile.gif

With weight you'll learn to make smoother passes - if you don't then the pen just gets stuck in your hand.

Alternatively, you can learn to be pretty smooth with a pencil too, but you won't be forced to. Thus, you get the fair amount of speed mentioned in the first post, but without a light grip and a smooth technique you won't be as fast as you could be.

I really like spinning with a pencil, especially if you are beginner. I learned all the fundamentals and few advanced tricks with pencil.

Just add few grips and tips on the pencil to make it heavy.

Also it is cheap and Eco-Friendly.

Yeah, grips makes it a lot easier smile.gif But eraser does it, too... I have an unsharpen pencil with erasers on the boths sides (same effect like grip, but not that big, because erasers weigh less than grips).. I personally like much more a pencils with two erasers than with two grips... I think the look is much better, and the difference isn't very big, so you can be used to it...

I'm gonna agree that going light -> heavy is better. I'm getting a little upset now though -- I have a Dr.KT style mod and a ZT now, and now all of my other mods feel so impossibly light to spin with, even though they felt so heavy before :/

Well I kind of think that pencils have their pro's and con's, but if you get fuluent with both, i think its better to use a pen that looks good becuase SP is all about beauty. If you really want to be a good SP, its not all towards spinning, some also goes to the pen if that makes any sence tongue.gif

EVERYONE, pencils are quite easy for learning the fundamentals as i used a pencil when i started. but then as i started to learn things like bakfall, pencils are bad choices. SO, take ur pencils take 2 grips 2 metal tips and add each on each side jus like me. if the grips canot fit add some paper and scoth tape till it can fit. then u will have a perfect mod like me A PENCIL MOD!

There're many types of pencils. I've seen heavy unmodded pencils(in my cousin's house). It's pretty nice to spin with. I'm sure that if u add in grip(s) + tip(s) at both ends, it'll be really very nice to spin with.

umm, i think pencils are excellent to spin with, especially if you stick blu-tak in both ends so it has lots of momentum.
but... if you learn tricks with a pencil, i think it may be harder to do it with pens (or maybe it's the other way around)
it's still up to how you learn tho, everyone is different happy.gif

Pencils are the good to learn fundamentals, if u want to compare it with a regular pen. But if u like spinning with pencil and want to continue with ur adv tricks than u should make a pencil mod. U get a kinfergarden pencil , the fat one, and simply add to grips to the ends of the pencil.

that's very likely it happened to me too but is it because maby u can't afford pens (not in an offensive way)because i can't get enough money for pen and u use pencils in stead
