Looks interesting.
What's the difference between the Expandz and a Telescopic? -

i eyeballed it and the major difference between the telescopic and expandz is
the barrel. telescopic's barrel textures is not smooth but expandz had very smooth texture
and there is a grip near the tip. -

I just found these too and unfortunately stock was too low to get two of the same colors (out of 3 local staples shops), so I got two different colors and will wait to find the colors I have and end up with two mods. One with the tips out, and one with no tips (like the style of the telescopic). It makes a great mod... I've seen pics already somewhere with the ends out (telescopic style only), I was thinking of doing it with the tips out, therefore, it could be a 2 color pen
Another advantage of having the tips outwards is that you end up with a thick (1cm) and smooth barrel , which is nicer than having a grip to spin on, at least to my fingers. The ends of the expandz don't come off as easily as the telescopics, unfortunately. If anyone has a good way to get those ends off without destroying them, let us know
I had to use pliers to start the end screws, which did leave marks. Could have put tape on them, but I didn't care. My mod will have a section of a screw hacksawed to join both of the expandz by their ends, with the tips pointed outwards, and grips for extra weight if even needed. Only issue is that there is a lip of metal that needs to be shaved and filed off of the ends. This extra lip of metal creates the brace for the clip, which we are eliminating, so it should be shaved and filed off and then either put the end cap back on, or fuse the two ends together to make it smooth.
I'll probably complete this tomorrow and then get some pics up tomorrow afternoon here. I'm real excited for this one Maybe I'll even try my first video.
3PM:
I just noticed the ends of the expandz are magnetic... kinda odd?
Anyways, I think tinsnips (or larger wire cutters) and a file would work for more round work... hacksaw is too wide and linear for the cylindrical sliver of metal that needs to be removed. Then a good filing or sanding to finish it off. I'd probably need a special two directional screw, or two screws welded if I wanted to join the ends, which are similar to a circular threaded (and magnetic) bolt.
Another idea which just occured would be to find a tube the two ends of the expands fit into that covers the length of the two barrels combined. This could allow either a smooth gripy surface if desired, or a hard and smooth surface like those marker pens. Then just weight the tips however desired and its already a good length without expanding. Then, you expand it, and its just like WOAH! It will be the longest pen mod I have after I overcome the screw and/or tube (welding) issue...QUOTE (Joshy @ Jan 25 2009, 01:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>hmm ZE
