Okay...
This is like really anoying but it is always happening! When i'm at home my dad is like"Why are you pen twirling?" PEN TWIRLING??? Who says twirling anyway? Another one is when I'm in school when there was when my english teacher was talking about verbs and she says "Andrew, who is twirling his pen?" When subs are in your class they will call you by "Kid who TWIRLS his pen" Why is the word TWIRL the first thing adults think of and not SPIN??? Just a question that seems to like always happen... -

Funny, my Literature teacher called my pen a baton. Psh. It's not long enough to be that.
Maybe I should show her my real baton... -

Because pen spinning is an esoteric hobby.
And people more know baton TWIRLING than pens they just call it twirling

the first thing they think of is twirling a baton. No one spins a baton, they twirl it. and im sure they have never heard of pen spinning, so they have nothing else to call it.

A lot of the tricks do look like twirls. Sonics, charges, passes, etc. Even some arounds and spin type tricks look like twirls to the average person. It's best not to make yourself look like a nerd and get angry over the word twirl. If it really matters that much, you could just politely say that it's called pen spinning.

Or, you could break out in uncontrollable bottled-up rage and attack the person.
Not like i do that to people... -

well it sort of irritated me at first, but i managed to convince mostly my entire class and maybe the whole level that 'twirl' is not the right word.
in fact, when we went on a overseas service learning trip to Nepal with some people who i barely knew, we were left bored and were just waiting for something to happen.
one guy was like: 'what do we do now?'
another guy was like: 'watch him penspin.'
first guy was like: 'SHOW US SOME STUFF!' and handed me some G2.
i took out some comssa i brought along and they were like: 'wah cool pen' -

they don't listen if you tell them its pen spinning..ive tried to tell that to my teacher and she got mad and kicked me out. my teacher calls it pen twirling and my friends just call it Pentrix..but..i don't mind..it doesn't really effect me when i'm spinning -

LOL I haven't have problems with that. I'm fine with pen spinning, pen twirling, or even pen turning. Although "playing with pens" are kinda annoying. And you know what? In ThaiSpinner, people use twirling more than spinning.
Just correct them if you want. -

Last year my history teacher kept saying stop twirling your pen and my math teacher said nice get on a cheer leader squad and spin a baton (least she didnt say twirl), AND PLUS my science teacher gets really pissed when i spin it...I dont get it whats so bad about spinning a pen anyways its not as if we're gonna kill someone with our pens (hopefully) and teachers think we're off task which we're not!!!! This year none of my teachers care though!!!!

The simple answer is that people are ignorant and don't care about the artform.
So the response is to leigun them in the head.*
* I can not be held responsible for any consequences of leigunning people in the head. -

I know what you mean my dad doesn't want me to do it in school... Adults don't under stand pen spinning is an art and can be done without focusing on it. You can listen to a teacher and do a thumb around very easily. It's just like tapping a pen.

Everyone who has seen me spin has called it spinning the pen. Why are you spinning your pen? What's that you're doing spinning your pen? etc... I've honestly never had anyone call it twirling or anything else. Must be some kind of American thing to say twirl.
