Pen Modifications / Pen Engraving?

I was thinking today, if we can carve grips so well, certainly it wouldn't be too much more work to engrave the barrel of a pen? I think it could be used as a way of signing a pen when you finish it. If you've ever watched "The Antique Roadshow" on PBS, you'd know that signing a work with some kind of symbol is common among artistic craftsmen. Or maybe you could do more than just a signature, like engrave the whole pen with a pattern?

    Has anyone ever tried this?

I've tried it, but ended up messing up like 5 rsvp barrels. You might be able to like melt a signature into a pen though, like a brand or something.

You could do it if you had the right tools. Engraving the whole pen would probably make it spin less well with all the indentions, but a symbol or signature at the end of the barrel would be pretty sweet.

I've heated up a paper clip and made a spiral into a rsvp barrel b4 but if you spin it you can sorta feel it...

an easier alternative is just to print out a custom insert...

    i've carved initials on pens
its rather hard to see, so you need to trace over it with some sort of ink (felt tip texta works) and then rub off the excess

i'll post a pic of it soon

EDIT: the camera is crap, so it wont clearly show the markings

in the US rsvps aren't really important so destroy 1 and still got like 50 not sure about caps tho may be harder

the easyest way would definitly be heating up a brand and stamping the barrel that way. That makes me think, how do people do such great gripcuts?

That's different, I believe. Frosting is when you change the texture of the entire barrel to a rough finish.

Pen engraving w/ complex designs go bad cause it breaks easily and i never really use the wiki so i wouldn't know whats frosting but what if its still smooth?
