People say that your eyes are 'trained' when you are able to recognise tricks/hybrids/combos really well. how do you train your eye? is it something that just comes from experience? or do you pratice recognising tricks/etc.

I don't train my eyes, it's just experience.

The more videos I watch, the more tricks I recognise. Tricks I can do myself, I pretty much always recognise. I guess if you have a larger trick database, you can breakdown videos more easily.

So, watching more vids will help a bit, and learning more tricks will help a lot imo.

i'm guessing the more tricks you are able to do the easier it is for you to recognize them, also if you try to concentrate on breaking down the combos when you watch them in videos it will become easier and easier for you.. i'm not great with recognizing tricks myself but i think i'm making sense here, dont I?

ah. i hate watching vids where i must break everything down to realise the beauty of the combo. i like just sitting back and relaxing without focusing so much, and enjoy the combo on a whole.

the only combo which i can breakdown easily is bonkura's, since he does them so slowly. laugh.gif

You don't need to train your eyes for the speed, use something like VLC Player that play videos at super slow speed, than you just have to practice telling what is going on in between the blurs. biggrin.gif

Just make lots of combos, because you know what is going on in your combo, then you see the same thing in another's combo, so you'll know what it is.

You can train your eye by doing a lot of breakdowns. I mean A LOT. Like, A LOT A LOT A LOT. Sooner or later you'll find yourself breaking down combos without having to use frame-by-frame or by slowing the video down.

I think large database of tricks you know helps.
When I watch vid, I can only catch those tricks that I know...
