UPSB v3
Pen Modifications / Making mods VS. Buying mods
-
Date: Tue, Mar 3 2009 18:06:06
I just want to know people's opinion on making your own mods vs. buying them from a website.
Is it better to make you own?
Price comparisons?
Is it about respect?
Just curious. -

i buy the pens needed to make the mod... because i like building stuff >_>
-
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 05:42:41
i would rather buy mods then make my own, as im lazy and im too scared to mess up
buying parts for mod should be cheaper then actually buying the mod themselves, as the already mademods should come with a time spent on it fee -

just because other ppl made it doesnt mean they wont screw up
they might even have lower standards than u urself >_>
which means they think it looks pro when u think its shit -

I'm super lazy to make any mods so i'll just buy them

This entire issue comes down to how confident you are as a modder. If your willing to try and do things yourself and do a bit of problem solving, you can end up with a really nice looking pen that can be tailored to fit your needs exactly.
It's also generally cheaper, you can also use left-over parts.
To me, modding is just a better alternative -

QFT everything here lol. Plus, I like making my mods because I can add personal touches to my mods, and making personal mods is fun xD -

What if I like doing both? =P
Actually , I would prefer doing a pen modification myself. I get the sense of satisfaction whenever I complete one.
The only qualm , however , would be finding the pen components. -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 08:14:19
I like making my own mods because building them is fun.
However, i dont always cut the straightest of grips >.> -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 14:58:08
I have now almost 40 mods, and all of them are modded by me. Almost all, I havent modded my Buster CYL
I dont like to buy mods >.>
Its so great fun to make them, and for me, is selfmade always better^^ -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 15:01:31
buying because i fuck up 90% of the mods i make
-
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 15:08:14
Well, pretty much all my mods are self made... If there a mod which is very hard to make I'll might try to buy it instead of make it, since I'm not sure I could make it, but otherwise, self made.... feels much more cool ^^
-
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 15:27:57
I would make them. I don't really make any already existing mod because of allowance problems, I usually only make originals.
I did buy things before, but I only bought Modded Comssas. -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 15:46:17
i've never bought pre made mod, and i'll never do!
making own mods gives satisfaction, fun, and you can make everything as you want it to be
and if you fuck up something you can blame only yourself
i want my pens to be unique, and there's a piece of me inside them -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 18:43:27
So far I've made only three, two normal RSVPs and this extremely terrible Bictory which doesn't even have caps on both ends. .That and the fact that the stores near my house only have so many different types, and all of them are for the harder mods that I'm not really good with yet, so I sort of want to buy my own, but I don't want to take the pussy route. =_=. That and some of the really awesome mods that I want to do are made of ASIAN pens! In US we have not of that really awesome asian shit. No we have the white stuff.
>u< Totally kidding about that by the way. I might consider buying one or two, but I think I'll wait til the next time I go to Vietnam to get those asian pens. =D -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 22:09:39
I like building them cuz of 3 reasons
1. I get experience from making them so that I can make mods better next time I make one
2. Its fun
3. Its cheaper... -
Date: Wed, Mar 4 2009 22:14:27
I prefer to make them myself. It fits me better, I really like to make things, it gives a personalness, it's cheaper, it's more fun
-

i love make mods
+ it fun
+cheap
+exercise too ^^
+more exp -

I tend to make mods for the satisfaction in successfully making it. If it's a difficult mod to make, I'll probably buy it instead since I doubt I could make it.
-

i make mods
if i can't make them (like the RSVP NX MMT), i give up
actually, the only reason (for now) that i make mods is that i can't buy them online XD
but i'll probably still only make mods even if i could buy online, seeing as it gives me something to do for about 10 minutes -
Date: Fri, Mar 6 2009 11:22:28
If its a complicated mod, I'll rather by it, but if its like a RSVP MX, i'll make it.
-
Date: Fri, Mar 6 2009 13:23:25
Would prefer to make mods though, unless it's really complicated.
-

When I first bought some good gelly rolls, G-3s, HGGs and keityo; I really didn't feel like wasting them for making mods.
My modding pens are qualified when they're out of ink/ liquidy stuff or they're already dried out.
I would prefer to buy mods since buying the parts takes a long time for meh to use the ink, and the stuff i need is almost inaccessible unless if me parents buys some for meh.
but thats only IMO o.O -
Date: Mon, Mar 9 2009 03:13:25
depends on the what pen. if its some crazy hard to make mod, or something that requires lots of cutting and stuff, ill buy it...and i sometimes buy comssa mods but thats it. but somehow, bought mods feel a little bit fake in a sense, so most of them i make myself.
-
Date: Sat, Mar 14 2009 01:51:23
i make all my mods, its just cheaper
ps. my first ever mod was a bought mx xD -
Date: Sat, Mar 14 2009 07:48:30
I like making stuff and knowing how they work, but I'm lazy.
So it depends. -
Date: Sat, Mar 14 2009 23:25:29
i say, if you can't do it yourself, pay someone that can.
and btw
its not like you cant add your own little touches or customize with a premade mod -

fix'd
I like to mod my own stuff, especially considering the selection of pens nearby. -
Date: Sun, Mar 15 2009 04:41:15
i rather make my own mods. If i cant get the pens, i would rather go online and get all the pens than go online and buy a mod.I am going to buy a comssa mod from PW(because it is the cheapest mod they have) just to see if i like premade mods
-
Date: Sun, Mar 15 2009 04:57:41
I would rather make my own mods. I,myself, like to just accumulate parts and stuff until I want to make another pen. I then raid my supplies and make something good looking. If I want a mod and don't have the parts. I would rather buy the parts and make the mod.
Although. If you are so inclined to buy a pen, then yes you can add your own touches to make it a little more personal.Or if you're not so good at modding, then buy the mod.
Anyway you choose, a new pen is on the way. -

Usually I make pens that look awesome and require mostly american pens (including subs for certain asian parts).
Making probably costs less than buying because people add in a fee for labor onto the fee for the parts and plus shipping. But saves time so you focus on other stuff.
If I buy a mod, its usually cuz its got too many parts and I do not want to buy all the pens to complete it...
They also sell pen mod sets that have all parts and you just make it... -
Date: Fri, Mar 20 2009 03:23:20
ok, if you make your own, then you can:
make a personalized mod (grip color, insert, etc)
suck at modding and make the ugliest mod
make a mod and use left over parts for other mods
make a mod and end up with useless parts
if you buy it, then you can:
get a really cool mod from a good modder
sometimes it will be cheaper
you dont have to mod it
can get pens from out of your country (hggs, kts, superpirat, etc)
anyways, i guess it all depends on how good of a modder you are, the difficulty of making the mod, and wether or not you want to have extra parts. -
Date: Wed, Mar 25 2009 15:41:19
I prefer making my own, partly because I like building things, and I get a sense of appreciation for the pen that I put effort into making. Of course it really makes no difference weather you buy it made or not, I just prefer making it myself.
-
Date: Wed, Mar 25 2009 15:50:23
If you buy mods, you wont get the parts which were not used... and the price is also high.
So making mods is better. only if you can make some nice ones... -
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 22:20:52
I find making mods better as you get the feeling of accomplishment when you finish that mod, the process is quite fun and you do save quite a bit of money ^^
