Here's how you play The Resistance:
Story: A bunch of rebels are trying to take over the Empire. They're discussing who will execute what plan. However, there are some spies in the rebels that want to sabotage the plans.
Plan: a plan can be either executed or sabotaged. During each turn, there will be several plans to do and each plan will be given to one person. That person then has secretely the choice to execute it or sabotage it.
How to win: First team (either the rebels or the spies) to score 3 points.
Player distribution: Depends on number of players. For 5 players, you have 3 rebels and 2 spies and we start off with 2 plans to give out.
Gameplay: Roles are randomly selected and privately assigned. Rebels know nothing (just like townies), while spies know all other spies (just like mafia). No private discussion allowed at any time for any player!!!
We randomly make an ordered list of the players. The first player on the list becomes the leader.
Each turn, there is public discussion. At any time, the leader can decide on an allocation of the plans. In other words, he decides who's gonna get a plan. Each player can have at most one plan in a turn and the leader can give himself a plan.
Then there is a vote: players publicly vote whether they approve of the allocation or not. We set a deadline like 48h for players to put their votes in. As soon as the allocation gets majority, the allocation is approved. Otherwise, the next person in the order list becomes the new leader and he must now decide the allocation.
When an allocation is decided, the players who received a plan must send a PM to the game host, whether they execute or sabotage the plan. There really is no reason for a rebel to sabotage a plan, since he wants to win and the spies all know each other anyway. However, a spy may want to NOT sabotage a plan if he doesn't want to raise suspicion.
Once that is done, the game host reveals how many plans have been successful and how many failed. If ALL plans are successful, the rebels gain 1 point. If at least ONE plan is sabotaged, the spies get 1 point.
The next turn then begins, with the next person on the list becoming leader and 1 additional plan added in (there is a maximum number of plans, for 5p its 3). -
