Personally, I think some of the top traders/buyers on this forum should have unlimited PM storage. When I use to trade a lot, it was hard managing all the PM's, and it would be a hassle to remember to delete them. Also, sometimes you don't want to delete some PM's because they have information that you may need in the future.
Ya I know someone is going to say, PEN AND PAPER OMFG ZOMG. STFU AND GTFO. KAY?
So yeah, frequent and constant traders/buyers should have unlimited PM storage. -

I slightly agree.
The only problem with this is that, how do we decide who are the top traders/buyers on the forum?
We could go by the amount of Feedback they have, but then we would have people trying to create fake feedback, just to get unlimited PM's
and if we give something like that to those top people, we will have other people complaining that, "So and so gets a perk, shouldnt i get something else?!"
its a good thought, but it would cause more confusion, fake feedback, and headaches than it would relieve.
If you truely need to keep everything in your inbox for reference, but need more messages, use the "Archive Messages" feature, which lets you send all of your messages to your email in an HTML webpage style format. Thats how i got through all of my trading.
If you need more room for replying back and forth with people, you can use some outer program, (MSN. AIM, etc.) or.. just use email. -

an idea might be to do a "density" of trades so to speak, amount of trades/certain time period. Once this exceeds a certain number, they can be granted unlimited PMs

is there a reason everyone doesn't have unlimited private messages anyway? If there's a good reason, than the archive feature is fine. I don't think some people should have unlimited private message spots, just because they trade a lot.

im not sure I have to ask xshadowfire
I would imagine it is a question of overloading the database, slowing down the forum. and also because mods can't read or delete PMs, therefore there is possibility of abuse (spamming someone's inbox for example). -

there is an ignore user feature though, right? -

yea its called PM Block lsit
i think the archive PM feature is pretty sweet though. -
Date: Sun, Mar 15 2009 19:55:24
I'd also agree on a bigger PM inbox, but not just for top traders, but for everyone else?
Maybe 100 messages max? -
Date: Sun, Mar 15 2009 23:45:28
Seems like some pretty practical reasons for a limited inbox. I would just archive all your messages. It would be unfair to the rest of UPSB if their connection was slowed because some people happen to not like to clear their inbox.

It is better that traders use E-mail than PM. But PM storage should be increased.

It's really annoying and gets confusing when you try to tell the person to email you. They always fuck up. Plus a lot of people don't use MSN, AIM and etc.
So don't drag that into this. PMing was ment for a reason, and now that a lot of people trade, we are in need of larger amount of storage space.
and I'm just wondering, how the hell could it overload the database and slow down the forum yet you don't complain about THE MOST REPLIES thread. ' -

I doubled members to 100
I don't think that much will affect performance
I hope its enough, don't be too greedy -

but dude.. you've traded only 4 times and 3 of those times were back when feedback wasn't given and only whitelist points where.
Do you know how annoying it could get trying to manage auctions? How annoying it is when you need to save information for future reference but you have to delete it because you have so many trades going on and all. Plus people pm nonstop like Pensharp and more.. so that gets annoying and clutters up my box. Then it gets filled and then the people that I was waiting to PM me, DON'T.
Why don't you like this WhiteFang? -
Date: Tue, Mar 17 2009 10:56:32
oh i don't have a problem with people getting 100 pms. What i'm not happy about is that i used to have 999 pm indox, and now its been reduced to 250.

Game Hosts get more Inbox?
-
Date: Tue, Mar 17 2009 13:25:56
complaining about the difference between 250 and 999 is unreasonable.
game hosts get more PMs because mafia games take a lot to run, but nothing beyond 250 for sure. -
Date: Tue, Mar 17 2009 22:47:46
Is there some not painful way to see archived messages? I used to do that but it was way too much of a hassle to use the search feature to find people's user names and try to figure out what they said.

when archiving... save it as an HTML Page...
Then you can just go, "CTRL F" (find) and then type their name and go thro all of their messages... its the easiest way. -
