UPSB v3
General Discussion / Why do spinners represent their board?

I can imagine the most important thing about penspinning boards like UPSB is the opportunity to exchange all sorts of information for everyone who's interested in PS. Now the thing that i don't understand is why every single spinner i've ever heard of (except for myself^^) always repsresents a certain board. I mean why do people do that? I've never felt the need to devote my spinning to a certain community whose members i don't even know in real life. I'm a registered UPSB member, but I'm also registered in GPC. Yet i would never say "eraser_IV in GPC" or anything like that in my videos...could you people tell me why you all have the need to represent one certain board and even to identify yourself with this community? what's the process and the initial impulse that leads to such an attitude? please tell me i'm really interested...

because its the community you visit the most, so you say you come from there. then if people want to find you, they know where to look.

1. There can be more than one person with your name. eg. Outsider. So saying Outsider from JEB would be different from saying Outsider from KPSA.
2. In trading threads, alot of the traders from a different forum say they are from "[community]." Why? Because its easier for the traders to find what they're looking for. Eg. traders from JEB would have a better chance of having a DR.KT then some random from FPSB.
And also, saying they are from a certain community gives people general idea of trustworthyness. Most people here wouldn't trade with someone from PDS or KPSA since its known they don't know how to trade.
Its not really something you have to do. But its useful. it gives you a sense of belonging. Identity. Yea, its internet. Noone truely know each other. But hanging around with same internet friends for several years and sharing common website to do so, you will devote yourself to one community. -

I would imagine that it would be so that anyone else from the same board may recognise them. For example, I don't know who here has an account on JEB, so if I said that I was Tim from UPSB, the people who knew me (not many people ) would recognise me.

1) So you're considered a penspinner cos you belong to a penspinning board. <-- My Opinion.
2) So you can do trading and such easier.
3) So you have a better network in Penspinning
4) So you can exchange pointers/discuss on Penspinning. -

1. True.
2. Well that is about people looking at the whole community, not the individual in the community. I believe he is talking about individual
Oh well, let's put that aside and get on with my opinion.
I half agree with eraser. Does UPSB represent USA? does it represent International? UPSB = Universal PSB. So I'll judge this board as English Speaking but UNIVERSAL board.
In tournaments, people are considered through "board", which I know why people do it. But what if I live in Japan, and I'm Japanese but I want to go from UPSB? Well I don't join any contest or collabs anymore so I don't know about UPSB now, but two years ago, when I used to spin pen and mod them a lot, I wanted to sign up for UCPSB collab (The really big major one), but people said I live in Japan and I'm Japanese so I can't join, and that I should rather join JEB Collab instead.
That's what I find strange.
Okay UPSB? I don't know. I haven't joined any Collabs or modded any pens for year and a half, so I don't really know the system now. If i were to join a contest, I would want to go for UPSB, not JEB (Not because of personal conflict with the people there, but because I am used to it here, and I originally joined UCPSB first).
And some of the guys here, i suggest you read the thread. This thread isn't about why Boards exist, but why people (individual) are considered through boards. -

the reason for pen-spinning boards is purely for language options and community.
Regarding the "stuck to a specific board" comment, in most cases it doesn't matter until you get into the higher ranks. It allows for local competitions vs always having to do a world tournament. -

the title of this topic is misleading: renamed.
