PEN MODDING WORLD TOURNAMENT: UPSB PRELIMINARIES

Hello All, Welcome to the Topic dedicated to picking the 3 UPSB Modder's that will represent UPSB in the Pen Modding World Tournament.

Pen Modding World Tournament Topic Link: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=18306

To give every person a fair chance, we have created a new selection process, based on a month long process, with 4 different voting weeks.

Here is the General Format of the Tournament Entries:

Anyone can participate as long as your submission conforms to the following rules:

    1. Each applicant must meet 3 criteria :

    -a self/personal mod (anything he/she created him/herself)
-a mod by another spinner/modder (a replica or variation of another person's mod, to prove the modder isn't stuck in his/her own world)
-a mod using any mechanism (like a retractable, MP, twistable, etc., to prove the modder can do more than just add weight to a barrel)

If wanted, you can submit a single mod for two criterias, but you're likely to get less votes because you can't show as much of your skills. You can also submit existing mods, or old mods from past entries. But it's encouraged for you to improve on them in order to increase your chances of being a top modder.

    2. Each submission must contain:

-a small blurb (a few sentences) describing the mod, any features it has, and any advantages or disadvantages it may have.
-a minimum of 2 pictures per mod, showing various features and the mod as a whole.
-an accurate weight analysis, using either the grams system, or a resonable comparitive system(a>mod>b)
-Length, materials used, tools used, approx. price to build.

    VOTING SYSTEM

The voting for this is particularily made to help pick the 3 best Modders, but still keeping room for them to save room for their special mods for the tournament, in other words, they don't neccessarily have to go all out and show all of their mods, unless there is some stiff competition for their spot.

The Voting will work in this way:

    There will be 4 "Rounds"
    - Each round will consist of a 5-day public voting period, and a 2-day break period
    - At the End of each "Round" there will be three top modders, AKA. Top 3.
    - The Top 3 will be listed within each "Round", the Top 3 will be updated every week depending on the 3 top modders with the top votes after each round.
    - The Top 3 at the end of the 4th round vote will be the 3 people moving to, The Pen Modding World Tournament.

At any time within the month long period, Modders can submit/ change out their mod submissions (single mods, or full submissions), which will be taken into account for the next Round of Voting, and Modders can make a submission at any time in the rounds (they don't have to have started submitting from the very beginning, they can just make one submission for the final round if wanted)

In this sense, if you are unhappy with a certain mod that you submitted, and feel thats why you don't have enough votes, you can switch that one out with a new one (within the same category) or just do a re-submission (replaces all mods with new submission).

Public Voting will be based on the MODDER, Not the single mods, because for the Pen Modding World Tournament we want to have the best All-around modders in the running, as any type of theme/pen mod restriction could be put in place.
Please Keep this in mind while voting.

As well, you must make sure that you vote for the modder that you feel is best every week, because the quality of mods that person submits could be based on their position within the standings after every week, so the votes will mean a lot to each person's desicisions concerning the following Round.

Each week, we will gather the top modders and the new entries for that week, and create a poll. The modders with the most votes will be the top modders and move on to next week (they don't need to submit new entries).

Voting Will Begin On Monday, March 30 2009
ALL SUBMISSION ARE DUE @ 12 MIDNIGHT Central American Time of Sunday Night.

For Time Zone Help Please Refer to:http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html
Please use: Canada, Manitoba, Winnipeg as my timezone.

All submission MUST be emailed to: [email protected]
Any submission given in any other form (MSN, PM, etc.) will not be accepted
If it does not conform to the above rules, it will also not be accepted.

Good Luck to all, i hope we can see some fantastic mods.
    Thanks!

haha...don't root for me though...if there is no competition, I'll just enter existing mods for the prelim and save the good stuff for the tournament xD

So you should root that others force me to pull out new mods in the prelim tongue.gif

If you mean whether it has to be a mod that you've shown to the public already vs haven't shown to the public yet... it can be either, but this system allows you to submit your old mods that you've already shown off in SOYP or something... so that you don't have to release all your unreleased stuff to simply get through the prelim round

For the functional mod, could you submit something similair to a retractable comssa using a tutorial that has been around for a while? Or does it have to use a new mechanism made from scratch?

you can pretty much submit anything.

Your main goal is to convince everyone that you're one of the top modders and suitable to represent UPSB on the tournament.

The reason we added the different criteria is to filter out some of the people that may only know how to make one mod really well. While that may be enough for them, we don't believe that will take you very far on the tournament.

I myself will probably submit some old mods the first week. Then if people start kicking my butt, I'll show some stuff I have saved up ^^

BTW, I helped Stevieboy come up with the format. But I have tried not to give myself any advantage. Since there is no judging team, and time is not much of an issue for the prelims, I have no advantage for knowing these rules a bit ahead of you guys. After all, you could win by only submitting one mod at the last week if you are busy or think you're that good xD
