I have recieved a bunch of submisssion, from regular modders and a few wild cards too!
Just to remind you all:
Public Voting will be based on the MODDER, Not the single mods, because for the Pen Modding World Tournament we want to have the best All-around modders in the running, as any type of theme/pen mod restriction could be put in place.
Please Keep this in mind while voting.
As well, you must make sure that you vote for the modder that you feel is best every week, because the quality of mods that person submits could be based on their position within the standings after every week, so the votes will mean a lot to each person's desicisions concerning the following Round.
I will be posting the Modders in order of time recieved, please look through all of the modders before voting.
All of these are posted EXACTLY as they were recieved via email. I have not touched them up or organized anything.
In the event of a Tie, the first applicant who had submitted will win the tiebreaker.
Thanks

For my Secondary mod I Know I spelled "F1R3FLY" wrong, I prefer the i vs. the 1. It just fit much much better imo. I swapped out the Gripmatic tips with signo, the balance was much better and I was able to make this mod far more sturdy doing so. The insert was one I made personally.

For my 3rd and final mod, which is the mechanism mod I opted to go with my Retractable X. It's the only pen in which I can say is worth being retractable. Simple and elegant without offsetting balance.
The only difference is figured a way of silencing the click mechanism so its not distracting in class when the clicker goes back up.

this mod uses:
A comssa Body.
RSVP Cap and grip.
Hgg Grip and tip and back cap
Bic Retrac Cap
Impact tip
The Retrac mech would not work nicely if anything goes wrong like crooked tip as the tip would come out.
the mech would be stuck if length not measure properly.
However its a stable school pen. -

Escapist1
1. Personal Mod (Could be called a single sided KT)
This mod is a very basic mod, a does not require very much skill as a modder to assemble. It requires a little bit of access to Japanese and American parts. Spinning-wise it feels very much like a boosted MX with much more weight and momentum. It Allows for a large variety of customization and inserts. The only down-side to this mod, is that if you choose not to file down the tip then you must leave the clip on the RSVP cap for the pen to balance out.
Stats:
Normal KT< This Mod< K4S's Clear body KT <--(The weight is just about equal to it)
Length: About 20cm (With filed tip)
Materials: 1 RSVP, 1 Colortwin/Keiyto/M&M/Person's, Sailor Gels grips (Amount used is optional), 1 Japanese Dr. Grip mechanical pencil tip, 1 HGG tip, additional grips to help balance (Modder's choice)
Tools Used: Dremel (For filing tips), File (taking the clip off the cap), Sticky Tack (for attaching the HGG tip), Exacto knife (for cutting the grips)
Approximate Price: About $14 (Using PW's prices)

2. Another Spinner's Mod: Ayatori Mod
This is the Japanese spinner Ayatori's personal mod. Very well known for the cut grip, this pen is one of the most customizable pens out there. Spinning-wise, it has very nice momentum and length, and it is a well constructed mod. The parts are mainly Japanese, but they are somewhat available online and in some places in America.
Stats:
Weight: About 16g
Length: About 23.5 Cm
Materials: 2 Signo's, 1 Hyper Jell, 1 Lakubo, 1 Signo Knock.
Tools Used: Exacto knife (for cutting grips), tape
Approximate Price: About $12 (Using PW's prices)

3. Functional Mod: Dori's Mechanical Pencil MX
This is the mechanical pencil version of the RSVP MX, giving the mod much more functionality in school. The mod itself retains the qualities of the original RSVP MX, while allowing to write in mechanical pencil. The difficulties of this mod are the struggles one has to face while making this mod. Patience is necessary.
Stats:
Weight: About 12.6g
Length: About 18.5 Cm
Materials: 1 Pentel Icy mechanical pencil, 1 RSVP retractable, 1 RSVP, 1 HGG, 1 sailor gel inktube.
Tools Used: Dremel (for cutting barrels and sanding) Sanding paper/files (for sanding the connection between the two pens), Exacto knife, Tape, Sink (emptying inktubes)

Dr. Trainer
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk173/k...s/DrTrainer.jpg
Stats:
- length: 19.8cm
- weight: 18.3g
- COG = COP
Description: While this may look like a simple mix of a Dr. KT with a Buster Cyl, It has certain features that make it unique.
1. Writable - although both the Buster Cyl and Dr. KT can be made writable, they usually are not because adding weight at the center of the pen does not improve momentum. To solve this, I added short ink tubes towards the ends, leaving the center empty and light.
2. Less grip, more momentum - One of the cool properties of the Dr. KT is that you can create a variety of color combinations via the grip and cap. While this is cool aesthetically, you can achieve more momentum by keeping all the weight towards the end of the pen. the Dr. Trainer increases momentum by using more weight at the ends, and removing extra grips that are closer to the middle of the pen. A few sailor rings still remain to keep the color scheme flexible.
3. Adjustable Anti-Slip Grip - Two profile grips are placed on the body to help in a number of ways.
Cont. 1.5s trainer - If you keep it near the cap, the position is optimized to help you learn Cont. 1.5s combos. Suck as Bak 1.5s, or Midbak 1.5s. In these combos the pen needs to slide on your hand and get repositioned before repeating the trick. The grip rings prevent the pen from sliding too much and flying off your hand.
Charge trainer - One of the difficulties in learning the Charge is preventing the pen from shifting its position and sliding off when doing multiple repetitions. By positioning the rings closer to the center, you can make learning the Charge easier. And while this may sound like useful only to beginners, it will certainly be useful when trying to do multiple Charges on the same hand.
Top Spin trainer - Based on the middle grip concept of the Grip Aviaire, you can also move the rings to the center to give you an extra edge while learning tricks like ThumbSpin, PalmSpin, etc. The grip in the center will give you a nice spinning area to prolong your spins.
Basically, you can move these rings anywhere you want depending on what trick you are learning. You can also remove them completely (and keep them in the caps) to get a more traditional mod if the rings are getting in the way.
4. Smooth trainer rings - Using wider Dr. Pilot (American version) metal rings, the rings will rattle and product noise when spinning....UNLESS you keep your pen in a constant state of smooth spinning. This is because if the pen is spinning constantly, and there are change in directions, the metal rings will be forced against the grip and it will not rattle. When you hear a rattle, you know your linkage was not as smooth as it could be, even if your eyes can't catch it. So time to improve your smoothness.
Pros: multi-purpose mod (can be used to learn many tricks/combos). Shorter than a Buster Cyl (one of its main complaints), more momentum than a KT. Flexible in terms of color combination and looks.
Cons: a bit expensive to make (require parts from multiple countries), not the most appealing look, have limited ink supply.
Materials/pens used:
- 2 KT/CT/MM (1 body, 2 caps)
- 2 Zebra Airfits (tips, grips, ink tubes)
- 2 Sailor or Sailor subs (grips)
- 2 American Dr. Grip (metal rings)
- 1 or 2 anyball/profile (grips) note: can get by with only 1, but I prefer getting the big edge section of the grip, so I use two
- tape
- electrical tape (for marking COG)
Tools used:
- scissors or pen knife or blade
- rubbing alcohol
- drill
Clear F1r3Fly G3 mod
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk173/k...y_g3_clear2.jpg
Stats:
- length: 20cm
- weight: 20g
- COG = COP
Description:
This was based on the well-known F1r3Fly mod. While everyone agrees that FF mods are pretty sweet in general, I wanted to improve on it by maximizing it's core feature: the fact that most of the pen is see through and customizable with an insert.
So, what better way to utilize that property other than making it a clear mod, while still maintaining the ability to use custom inserts. The final result called for using an insert printed on transparency paper.
Pros: great appeal, specially if seen under light or interesting backgrounds. Slightly shorter than a normal F1r3Fly and less prone to breakage.
Cons: an ugly or dark background can make the mod look bad. Less momentum due to length. Less spinning area.
Materials/Pens used:
- 1 Pilot G3 (body, cap, back cap, grip)
- 1 Pilot G2 (body)
- 1 Japanese Dr. Grip (grip)
- 1 Sailor grip (gray)
- 1 Beifa grip (black)
- 1 HGG (tip)
- 1 airblanc (grip)
- 1 Faber Castell Grip Matic
- hot glue
- tape
- insert printed on transparency paper
Tools Used:
- scissors (for grip cutting)
- hot glue gun
- file (for sanding)
- wire cutter (for removing clip and cutting body)
Twisted MX
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk173/k...ted_mx_blue.jpg
Stats:
- length: 20.2cm
- weight: 16.5g
- COG = 0.1cm front-heavy
Description:
A simple retractable one sided mod that uses a twisting mechanism instead of the clicking to make the ink tube come out. The advantage is that a twisting mechanism is a lot more stable than most retractable mechanisms. Two grips on each side add a good momentum, while keeping the mod fairly light.
Pros: stable mechanism, unique look, not too hard to make
Cons: uses outsert, wavy grips may not suit all tastes
Materials/Pens used:
- 1 Crayola Twistable (body and twistable mech)
- 1 Pentel Tranxition (grip)
- 1 Pilot G-3 (metal tip, cap)
- 1 HGG (metal tip, grip)
- 2 Pentel Energel/Energize (grips)
- 1 Pentel RSVP (ink tube)
- spring from any retractable pen
- outsert
Tools:
- tape
- wire cutter

@iMatt: For your iMaker, can you elaborate on the "adjustable weight" part of your mod?
Does it mean....1) you can make it lighter or heavier during the modding process 2) You can add/remove weight easily (as in using your hands, not tools), 3) you can move the weight's location by hand, or 4) the weights are dynamic and shift while you're spinning
For the Retractable X, I think you forgot to mention an Anyball/Profile on your material list? (although you can probably sub that with the HGG grip...which I think would look better than a profile grip anyways )
@TEK: darn...your bandwidth is always exceeded dude xD I bet it's all the other boards including the photos of your mods in their SOYP threads. Maybe you need to create a new photobucket account...haha
@here&now: nice mods ^^ You have come a long way since I saw your first mod xD They all look very good. A little more description on your first mod wouldn't hurt...hehe.
@Escapist1: how are your mods all so cheap o.O They look pretty nice I think sometimes you can increase your costs a bit to improve the looks, though....specially if you use common spare parts that other mods wouldn't use.
@Kam: you noob...you forgot to list your pen prices ...shame on you. And I can tell by the materials list they seem pretty expensive. Shame x2 ^^
@Guitrum: your G3 mod looks good. The only thing that bugs the hell out of me is the connection point between the two pens :/ I dunno...maybe if you made an insert to exploit that (have a few lines around that area), it won't look as noticeable and I'll be happier (I know you want to make me happy, right? )
For your bictory, what body did you use? It looks really good for a bictory though ^^
Your G2-CTE Vortex also looks good...a bit too many red rings imo -

Sorry guys, my old photobucket exceeded the limit.
but the pics are fix'ed now. thanks kam! -
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 21:33:33
are we really supposed to vote only once per poll?
if a modder dominates and gets a large portion of the votes, then the margin of decidiing the other 2 becomes very slim and may get decied by only 1-2 votes. -
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 21:34:28
I don't know if we're supposed to post who we voted for or not, so feel free to delete this if I'm not supposed to.
I kind of wish this had been a checkbox-poll, since we're sending three people to the tournament. But my vote was for Kam, but 2nd and 3rd would have been TEK and iMatt. -
Date: Mon, Mar 30 2009 21:55:48
just a couple of things...
it'd be nice if imatt focuses a bit more on the aesthetics
i personally dont think imaker looks very nice...
same goes for guitrum and escapist
here&now... that first pen looks alot like the enot mod or hsmx
and the 3rd just looks like lemon mod
and kam
im not sure about that smooth training rings
i mean not everyone spins the same way
some might spin fast, violently, crazily, smoothly, slowly, etc
it might be annoying to some people
but i really wouldnt know till i tried the pen
and about the charge trainer...
i dont really think beginners need to use a dr kt weight pen to learn charge do they?
its just a bit too heavy for beginners imo
---
well, that was just my take on the things -

For this I'm referring to a "hot-swap" like tip system, you can add up to 2 signo tips and a hgg tip on the front (if wanted) without having to use glue or teflon.
the back can be adjusted if wanted, but it is a tid bit trickier, but thankfully the backcap comes out fine as well, the cap insert shouldn't have much issue going back in.
The Backcap can hold up to 1 signo and 2 hgg or 4 HGG tips. The weight is entirely changeable.
Regarding my Dynamic mods, those are still a very large work in progress, I'm hoping one of these days I'll be able to make a stable system which I can release for the community to improve upon.
btw, Best of Luck -

Okay Fixed.
Sorry for the problems... i think this system will work.
If you have already voted previously, please send me a PM with your choices, as they have been reset.
Thanks, sorry for the inconvenience
EDIT:
Once again... changed.
Please just vote for Your Top 3 people.
order does not matter
Votes will be tallied from all 3 polls to determine the top 3. -

@iMatt: cool, thx for the clarifications.
BTW, good job on your mods...I wasn't expecting you to come out so strong...might force me to release more stuff in the next few weeks...let's see ^^
@SJ: I appreciate the comments, but...try to be more specific on your criticism? Most of your comments are too vague for us to act upon.
In regards to your comments...
the smooth trainer rings are meant exactly for one purpose, to tell you if you're spinning smooth. Regardless of your style of spinning, if you have a sudden drop in speed or change in direction, the rings will move and you'll hear a noise. Now, this works for almost all speeds (too slow and you won't have enough reactive centrifugal force to keep the ring in place). Style shouldn't matter either. You can have a lot of direction changes without noise if you're smooth. But if you have gaps of time during your change in direction, then you'll hear noise. Anyways...the basic idea is that...if you're smooth...the ring will never rattle and it won't affect your spinning. If you're not, it will rattle a bit, you'll hear noise, and your spinning gets affected a little bit (not a lot since there's little space for the rings to move).
Anyways, the Dr. Trainer is flexible...I understand you may not always want to focus on smoothness and it can get annoyed. It's a simple matter of pushing the airfit grip in a bit....and you get yourself a silent mod again. When you want to train smoothness, just pull the grip out a bit. Convenient, huh?
As for the Charge trainer, that's just an example. I mentioned that pros may use it to learn Dual Charge (two Charges on the same hand). But really, you can move it anywhere you see fit. It's really helpful sometimes. I've been able to do a max of 18 Continuous IndexBak 1.5s with it. You can try the same feature on pretty much any mod. Just add two profile rings and adjust it to your needs. -
Date: Tue, Mar 31 2009 02:47:06
hmm.
Kam: if you can freely move the profile grips around the body, from my experience, won't it be loose? but yeah, its a cool concept though. -
Date: Tue, Mar 31 2009 04:38:51QUOTE (BloorA @ Mar 30 2009, 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>hmm.
Kam: if you can freely move the profile grips around the body, from my experience, won't it be loose? but yeah, its a cool concept though.
As long as you don't overstretch it, I think profile grips are pretty good at retaining its shape. I normally use two hands (one finger nail on each side to move the grips, so it's never overstretched.
yes, it will be a bit looser than a grip that you put only once and never move, but not so much that it will start moving easily without help. I have been using these rings for weeks now and they're still good.
Besides, even if I have to, changing a couple profile grips once in a while is not that big of a deal to me. So far I haven't had to change it though. -

Kam: Dr. Trainer idea is good. I think we can do the same with our mods.
TEK: You were always good. Grip cuts on Mr. Turtle are really nice. You always change the whole look of mod.
iMatt: All i want to say is that you are filled with creativity.
All others best of luck. You all did a nice job. -

i think there should be a notice that says, when your voting, put into account if the modder has made the insert himself/herself.
the insert has A LOT to do on the success of a mod. if the modder used an insert but he did not make it, than it shouldn't benefit him at all, anyone could print and put on a great insert but,
not everyone can make one themselves. And prolly if you are going to use someone elses insert, it must be cited. ^^ -

they dont need to. i was just saying it shouldn't count in favor of them. it just means that they lack that criteria of pen modding.

Okay, i the next round, all inserts must be cited within the mod details.
Usually with new/ interesting mods you can tell if the person did the insert themselves.
Because if they did, the insert will be based off of the mod.
and if they didnt, the mod will be based off the insert or it might not match at all. -

I mentioned it in my description, but it's basically an insert printed on transparent paper. I went to a Kinko's (a popular copy & print shop here in US), printed the insert on regular paper first, then had it photocopied on transparency paper.
Between the cost of using their computer, printing the insert, and photocopying it to transparency, I think the insert cost me about $10 plus 45 min of time >_<
But well, I think it was worth it. I was pretty happy with the result ^^ -

How can Tek have 66 votes if only 63 people voted -

OKAY
so. first round of voting is now officially closed!
Thanks to all who participated, and all who voted.
We had a fairly good turn out, although having more modders would be a nice addition to the mix
So dont be shy to put in mods for next round, you can always get in the top 3.
The standing are as follows:
1. TEK -- 80 votes
2. Kam -- 67 votes
3. iMatt -- 49 votes
4. Guitrum -- 20 votes
5. here&now -- 8 votes
6. Escapist1 -- 1 votes
So the top 3 for this round are: iMatt, TEK, Kam.
Once again, all stats are reset for next round, so everyone can start with a new plate.
All submissions for Round 2 are due in my email inbox by 12:00 midnight of the night of Sunday April 5.
Thanks again
