Yeah, I'm an audiophile. I actually had an entire huge post written out, but then I pressed the back button by accident, so I'm gonna summarize 3 paragraphs:

Collabs are getting pretty disappointing, and not in terms of spinning. Music now days is something that's just layered over spinning, with some bang bang here and some flash flash there, to make it synch a bit. Really, its more than synchronization. The music needs to reflect the collab in its themes.

Great Collabs in terms of music:
    1. [JEB] Spiritio
    2. Vengeance Trailer
    3. HoT - Nascent
    4. PSH ACR2 collab

All of these have been acclaimed by most of the community, and I've noticed similarities in how music is weaved into the collab.

big long thing that accidentely got deleted 'cuz i'm a douchebag

Well when I make a video, I just like sticking in whatever song I think sounds cool and I don't really give another thought as to whether or not it really fits the style or the theme of the video I am making. Honestly, I know music is a very integral part of a collaboration video, but I am just not looking at it beyond seeing it as an excuse to stick one of my favourite songs in a video.
I can see where you are coming from though, every part of the video making process should have the same level of thought and care put into it, and that includes the selection of the music.

I think that the music in a collab has a lot of effect on how the collab will turn out.
