Here are the first of my commentaries on the round, the rest will come later (I am working from the top down)
My round Commentaries:
(warning, I enjoyed all of the videos this round, If I sound excessivley negative, I'm not trying to be.)
Kari-Chan: I liked the direction change at 0:10. The spinning speed faltered just a little bit throughout the combo, but not enough to really make a difference. Good finisher as well. This was the first video I watched and it left me with a good impression.
Tatemichi: the aerial at the end was nice. However, the begining seemed a little repetitive, but the spinning itself was very smooth. The infinity you threw in seemed to add a nice appeal to the combo. The consistent direction (or atleast appearence of one) was lovely.
PillarsOfValhalla: the spinning had a pleasant tempo to it. However, the camera quality left me in the dark. The infinities were just a tad spammy, but not overly. Good job overall, and with a nice finish.
Wind: I definitely liked the tipped sonic segment, the pen just seemed to melt down your fingers. As well as a nice palm spin. The only thing I didn't like was the finisher. The minimal thumb use was a little akward, but not neccesarily bad. This was one of the strongest combos in the tournament.
Lobster: a very smooth and fast combo. The only thing I worry about is that the combo was very long and it seems like you may have run out of some material. Other than that though, it was pulled off very well. -

Yeah.. I know my finisher was horrible... Couldn't think of anything else besides bak rev 12 - T1 > TA T1 - T1.
Possibly my only combo with me using my thumb the least

My vid was better, i had music in the background, it was the intro to apocolypse please by muse and i modified it so it had echo but the software i was using got it all screwed up so i just had to use my old program so no music.
lol and Mario with a failed attempt to prop him up with my friends phone he was just chillin' with me (we are pretty much best friends, me and Mario).
Tatemichi's vid was cool with the piano in the background and him just sitting in what reminded me of one of the backrooms in our high school bandroom (even the same carpet). -

Just saying...I wouldn't recommend filming ahead of time because the next couple of rounds are going to be one on one matches, meaning you've got to take your opponent into account before planing your combo.
I'm not hinting that you're doing badly, I just wanted to give a friendly word of advice.

Anyways, here's my take on things:
Kari-Chan: Great strong combo overall. The little midbak slip at 0:09-0:010 sorta ruined it... but otherwise, seems like you got more.
Tatemichi: Mmm... started spamming a bit, but had a really nice strong filler and ending.
PoV: You've improved a lot in terms of camera lighting. Try a less distracting angle, and next time, try not to spam wipers.
Wind: Your camera really killed it. Perfect combo, except for some so-so things because of the camera.
Lobster: Really liked yours... just try more infinity variations and use your Thumb slot for more than wipers.
Outsmash: I don't need to criticize yours much. Just spin a bit more on screen next time.

very suprised that i got 81.6 though. cuz it was a first attempt shot and i rushed it to hand it in to frozenice cuz i volunteered to stand in for heva at the last min^^.

Yeah, you can use old videos from other tournaments/collabs, but I think you might be at a slight disadvantage, now that you've revealed which video you're using.

Dev's angle/filming was not as good as Karichan's. Kari-chan also had a smoother, more difficult combo. Dev has definite potential, though. Just work on the angle for filming and getting your combo a little smoother.

Both very good combos with great linkage, but I found Simplex had fewer mistakes. Great work you guys! Awesome combos!
Archermitch vs.k-ryder
Prediction: K-Ryder
archer's combo was not as difficult or long. ryder had a combo an extremely smooth combo that required more skill and talent that he performed with incredible speed. He also utilized his creativity in a new way that really showed his style in a new light. Archer did a better camera/filming job though

Overall I felt that you did a good job of keeping the tempo consistent. The finisher was also nice, but I feel that the catch of the aerial could have been a little better. A trick I think you could use to great effect in your style is the flush sonic. The shadows were very smooth, as was the rest of your combo. Very good job :> -

about the off cam. i was testing a new angle then my cam kinda crapped out on me... the lens doesn't focus properly right now so im getting it fixed but that was all i had of it and it really wasn't the best.. but good job lobster!

thanks! Yeah, I wasn't sure how to end the combo and time was running out. I was planning on doing a thumbaround normal into a TA reverse while switching hands, so that it made a full 360, then continuing to spin with the left, but I couldn't get it down in time.

Outsmash: You gotta work on your combo flow. It seemed really chunky at times, as if some parts didn't really fit. Otherwise, nice tricks there with the 2p2h and 1p2h and 1p1h etc. Oh, and the length sorta was too long. It had nice appeal for the first 20 or so seconds, then it started dying.
Xternal: Work on angle + lighting. Otherwise, it would be the better combo. -

Yes there is. 25 seconds for your combo. No more. Me and Xternal had an agreement that both of us could exceed this limit (Since it's a Two-way agreement it's allowed). Xternal didn't use it as he didn't have time to film a new video. And mine was way too long (which is why I'm worried).

I know we're all wanting to see the results and all but please, this is a fun competition. It's good that alot of people are excited about it but having to complain about people taking too long is too much don't you think?
If you do it once I think it's understandable but if you repeatedly post on this thread asking about what's taking so long, I think that has to stop.
Everyone is busy and not many of the judges can put this as one of their main priorities. It's something we do out of free time.

i'm somewhat in shock at some of the results...
i thought for a fact that outsmash's combo was completely demolished.... seriously. his combo was plainly spam + random difficult crap which he just added in. sorry no offense but you seriously have to make up your mind on what to do. 40 sec combos are purely terrible.
also with simplex, i seriously think simplex had this. lobster's combo had soo many twisted sonics, it rivals mhig for goodness sake, we all know how he spins... simplex had much more variety.
well thats it for my hopefully constructive criticism on the videos. but honestly... get better judges. -

Lobster and Simplex were about on the same level. It depends on how you look at it.

the thing is Xternal's combo was thought out. thats what makes a good combo. even if not executed properly it is better than a 40 sec spam video.
idk about lobster and simplex... the hardest thing i saw in lobster's video was his ta release which wasn't quite linked so well after the catch. it only appeared smoothly because of filler tricks. simplex on the other hand could control his level of difficulty
if judging is based on perspective then get people with experience. those people with experience probably have a much better perspective towards a good/decent combo. -

To white: This is our first time doing an in-team tournament. Things don't always go as planned. If we have a second tournament in the future, we'll make the necessary changes if needed.
To hoiboy: The only category that would be "by perspective" would probably be general appeal. The rest, are pretty much "defined", like difficulty or video/filming for example. -

hmm for this round i knew i would be gone
my smoothness and angle kinda killed it. on the other hand lobsters combo was more flowing probably thought out a lot compared to mine. i have a problem keeping to break downs so almost all of my combos are freestyles... maybe in the future i'll become better.
also about outsmash vs xternal i have to agree with white on this one. but xternal's combo was very badly filmed imo ( no offence man) and the structure was not as appealing as i know it could have been.
well what can you do. when the next tourny comes out i will definitely join. it's been fun you guys! and good luck to you all!

lmfao did i say spam? i meant LOOKS like spam. none of what you performed was visually appealing in any way. you seriously have to make your 'tricks' visually appealing first then put them into your combos. trying to show off all that you know in one combo is what i call overkill. -

Here are my thoughts on Outsmash's combo:
1. You were def. better than Xternal (sorry there). Except your camera angle sucks.
2. Your angle sucks.
3. You had really nice tricks in there, but your angle sucks.
4. Your linkages were good, but your angle sucks.
5. I don't think the triangle pass isolation fits in the middle of the combo.
6. Your angle really sucks. (Sorry, couldn't resist saying that.)
A good angle would be more of a top down type of angle, like the angle your eyes view it at. -

yeah, Outsmash... 4 things
1) Angle, get your hand a little more centered on screen... There are some points when you are centered, but slowly drift to the right and back towards your body. Are you leaning forward when you were filming this? Try for an angle above your head, and less from the side.
2) Cut down on length. you could have made 2-3 amazing combos from all the stuff in that one vid, but it reminds me alot of attempts at mixing as many spinners as you could as possible.
3) Stylistically, you seem to be attempting to channel Pyralux here... The hand wave thing and isolation need more flow into and out of them, they seemed a little out of place. As well as the hand motions at the beginning, seemed a little fast and out of place.
4) The last part with all the spins... yeah... no. Your combo was fine where you ended it, didn't need that. -

on the same not as white, outsmash your tricks were good but everything looked the same due to the angle and the fact your hands weren't very centered and close up you could really tell what you were doing all the time. and also you tended to just throw random stuff in there that was completely unnecessary.

i would have to agree with white here, sorry no offense but.. some of your tricks really.. weren't appealing... if i were to finish judging those unappealing tricks would've hurt your score. since my way of thinking is that the only time difficulty should be used is when it's purely mastered and has much appeal it just doesn't match for me. just to be honest.. this will be the case for most old timers.. -
