There's a minor religious group which don't allow any blood transfusion, for some religious reasons.
There was once a news about a kid who died because the kid was fatally wounded and doctor suggested blood transfusion, but the kid's parents said no because of this religious belief. The kid eventually died.
I also heard some religious group who eat certain plants that they believe is "given by god", but such plant is scientifically proven that it is harmful to human but nonetheless, the group still eats it, ignoring what is proven by science.
Do you think it's the right thing to do to follow religious rules over scientifically suggested things when it comes to live or die?
Of course I think it's pretty stupid to follow religion over science (cuz fundamentally, I don't believe in religion), especially when it's proven to be harmful for human. But what do you guys say about it? -

When its a matter of life and death, I really don't think the parents had any right to refuse treatment for their kid. It ended up costing him his life for some "belief" I would consider it the parents fault he died, its one thing to have your own beliefs but to actually take them as far as to cost someone their life is sick, its border line murder in my eyes.
And stuff like this is hardly what I consider science, its just common sense, if you don't have enough blood you will die, some plants will make you sick if you eat them etc. they are pretty easy concepts to grasp, to ignore that for some far off believe is insane. -

I'm not limiting the discussion to blood transfusion.
the main discussion is about religion over science, in matter of live or die. -

as awesome said, this isn't evolution vs creation stuff, it's simple common sense. if someone's going to die, it isn't within your right to prevent their being helped because YOU think the treatment is bad
however, if the kid himself didnt want the transfusion, it's his choice
i dont know enough about religions to get proper examples, but what happens during Ramadan if someone is starving? -

Muslims only fast from sun up to sun down during Ramadan.

ethics is always a difficult question... same could be said of abortion when the delivery would be fatal to the mother.

in a matter of life or death, i would follow science over religion. Other than that, there some beliefs that govern my daily activities.

Religion has nothing to do about Science, nor Science has something to do about religion.
Seriously, they do NOT affect each other.
In winter, you miss sun, it's cold, and etc, but in summer, heat sun comes, and it appears it's too hot for you. I am not even talking about looking into sun. That would burn your eyes. <- Religion is ok thing, it indeed make people better. But TOO MUCH religion burns. It causes such stuff. Though, with example you gave, I can say other way around. If you prefer science, then would this be ok; literally KILLING people for science, to find out something out. Is THAT good? -

Science without Religion is Lame: Religion without Science is Blind

what are you saying? People killed other people for religion just for "religious" reasons few centuries ago, And some people still do...and besides, there are some religion that allows killing. Moreover, to do killing, people used "science" (swords, spear, catapult, guns, condoms, knife whatever).
What do you mean by "Religion has nothing to do about Science, nor Science has something to do about religion."?
Religion and Science completely affect each other. -

You know, what I am not going to ask...
QUOTEReligion has nothing to do about Science, nor Science has something to do about religion.

They were pretty much intertwined for most of history, religion killed or punished many thinkers for coming up with ideas like the world is actually round. The examples REX gave in the first post shows how religion interferes with science in the modern day.
Also killing people for science can be debatable in itself, if the results of the research can be used to save many people from that point on it could be said it is wrong not to conduct the research, even if it costs some people their lives now, but that is a completely another subject, and besides science will use rats and stuff to do most experiments with. No one here even mentioned something about science killing things But this is off topic I consider and would need its own thread.QUOTEFunanah Posted Today, 03:35 PM
Science without Religion is Lame: Religion without Science is Blind
Please substantiate your point, instead of using a quotation with no actual opinion that it is supporting, at the very least you could of provided that those were Albert Einsteins words.
