Whens new members make a thread and they ask simple question that should asked in '1 Answer Question' or Quick Mod Questions' thread, is there any specific reason why the mods always link the thread "1AQ" or "QMQ" and lock it? Why can't it be merged with the thread its suppose to be in?
Cause often the mods don't answer their question and just link the thread and lock it. Are you guys doing this expecting the TC to repost on the 1AQ the exactly the same question? i guess that won't matter to members who is pretty used to the board that much, but I think it discourage new members to ask questions or make a new thread.
So yea.. i think it'd be nice if you just merge the threads and fix it for them rather than just locking it. -

when you lock a thread the person can then repost in the correct thread, that's fine.
if you merge, their thread just disappear they wont know what happened -

i think the locked threads serve as an example of what not to do for newcomers who stumble across them

but as if the newcomers are going to find a lock thread to say 'lets not do this.' I think the reason they don't post it in the proper thread is because they don't know they exist.
I kinda thought about if you merge thread they don't know what happeneed to the thread, but as Awesome just menttioned, use PM. ]
Idn, maybe its just me, but I kind of get the feeling that the mods are locking threads to leave something behind for the rest of the members to say "Look, I'm doing my job" (no offense) -

Sometimes, it takes longer to merge the thread and then send them a PM letting them know that their thread has been merged with [linktothread]...and so when I get lazy at times, I just lock the thread =\ I mean, for me personally (not speaking for any other mods), I occasionally just lock the threads and at other times, I merge. (But that's just my laziness setting in from tiem to time)
So if there's a lot of work, I would lock them over merging/PMing for efficiency sake. But really, merging/pming or locking/pointing them in the right direction... there's nothing wrong with either option =\ Just some situations call for certain actions
these are just my habits, i'm not saying them in representation of the habits of the other mods in any way -

I almost always merge. If I can't, then I lock it. Hence why so many people don't even know I'm moderating. If members don't know where their post went, they can check their post in their profile. A few extra clicks, but what's that compared to a search, or even opening your PM inbox?
