    G3-Matic (G3-M) Mod

    ~

I've put off releasing this tutorial for about a month now. I didnt want to release another one RIGHT after my Namaezing Mod... But i am rather proud of this mod and still spin it. Yes, the green one was made to mimic s777's MX. i like the way it looks when it spins. I hope you guys enjoy this tutorial! Happy spinning!

    [COG]: Center of Pen

    [Weight]: G3-Matic (G3-M) Mod > Impact MX
    [Style]: Single-Sided
    [Writing-Mechanism]: Capped
    [Ink-Type]: G3 Ink
    [Estimated-Cost]:

    ~

    [Materials List]:
[1x]: Pilot G3 body, grip, cap, backcap, inktube and tip
[1x]: Faber-Castell Gripmatic grip and tip
    [1x]: Uniball Signo tip
    [1x]: Pentel ColorTwin small cap
    [1-2x]: Pilot G2 grips
    [2x]: Papermate Profiles grips

    ~

    [2x]: Paper Inserts
    [1x]: Electrical tape
    [1x]: Teflon tape
    [1x]: Cutting device (X-Acto knife)
    [1x]: File/Sandpaper
    [1x]: Wiresnips
    [1x]: Superglue (not pictured)

    ~

    [Tutorial]:

    1. Gather your materials and aquire the parts that are necessary.

    ~

    2. Take the two Profile grips and the G2 grip and cut them as shown in the picture

    ~

    3. Take the G3 cap and remove the clip and then the rubber stopper from the inside. Then remove and sand down the bump that held on the clip.

    ~

    4. Push the Gripmatic tip into the cap. I've experienced caps where the tip needs to be forced in and then will stay without rattling as well as caps that the tip doesnt stay in. This would require some superglue.

    ~

    5. Wrap an insert around the Gripmatic grip. Push that into the cap all the way until it reaches the tip. Everything should fit snuggly. I appologize for the unclear picture but the Gripmatic grip is infact inside the insert.

    ~

    6. Take the two pieces of the Profile grip that have the large ring on them and put them on the cap. the one with two rings all together should go on first, followed by the one with 3 total rings. Use the picture as reference.

    ~

    The cap is finished!

    7. Take the G3 body and remove only the first two rings off of the grip. An X-Acto knife does this job very well. Make sure to leave the rest of the grip attached to the body.

    ~

    8. Using your file, sand down the very apparent knub. Leave the threads on though.

    ~

    9. Using an X-Acto knife, bore a hole in the G3 back cap large enough for the G3 inktube tip to fit through.

    ~

    10. Place an insert into the the body. Then click the bored G3 backcap into place.

    ~

    11. Take the G3 inktube and enter it into where the threads are so that it pops out through the hole that you previously bored. If it will not go through, sand off some of the plastic that is too wide for it to go through. Then apply superglue to the base of the inktube so that it adheres to the threads. this ensures it will not shift when writing.

    ~

    12. Glue the ColorTwin small cap to the front of the G3 body where you filed. Make sure that it is snug and that it is straight as well.

    ~

    13. Attach the Signo tip into the ColorTwin small cap. I highly suggest supergluing it in place.

    ~

    14. Wrap Teflon tape around the signo tip and screw on the G3 tip. Apply superglue if you feel necessary. Wrap more teflon tape around the cylyndrical portion of the G3 tip so that it is flush with the diameter of the ColorTwin small cap.

    ~

    15. Put the small section of the G2 grip on first, then the middle section of the Profile grip, then the large section of the G2 grip as shown in the picture. Another alternative would be to take 2 G2 grips and cut one right where the rings meet the thick black section and taking another and cutting off only the very first ring. This is the grip style used in the green G3-Matic (G3-M) Mod shown on the first post.

    ~

    16. Wrap enough electrical tape on the back of the G3 body to hold on the completed cap and the push that very same cap into place! You have just completed your G3-Matic (G3-M) Mod!

    ~

    Spoiler:

    1. If the mod is front heavy, take the long section of profile that is left over and use needlenose pliers or tweezers to fold it up and push it inside the Gripmatic Grip. This should solve the problem.

    2. If you dont want to attach the cap via electrical tape then take a BIC Soft Feel retractable pen and cut the long section that holds the "grip" and shove the tapered end into the insert thats in the barrel. then wrap tape around the other end and push the cap onto that. Be sure to extend the insert to cover the rest of the inside of the cap. The finished product is the green version from the first post.

    3. If you want to make this mod more flashy, take an outsert and wrap it around the G3 grip/ColorTwin small cap area. Then cut a grip and put it over that.

    4. Here is the insert i used/made just for this mod: http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj256/G...rumG3Insert.jpg

Nice, looks good and quite simple. I'll try to make it sometime once i get a colourtwin and gripmatic. ^^

One question though... reversed G3 gel ink? What stops it from leaking inside and ruining the insert after frequent spinning?

From personal experience, G3 gel ink gets quite messy when spun...

well if you notice, the open end of the inktube is outside of the body and the superglue seals the inktube to the body so if there was any leakage, it would leak into the small cap which is also sealed by superglue. the worst leakage ive had is when i take off the cap, there is a little bit on the tip of the writing tip but i just whipe that off when i write with it smile.gif

but really, reversing the inktube is completely optional

Nice mod, man! Seems a bit heavy for me but I'll make it anyways. Can't wait to make this s777 mx sub.

K2 thats everything but a s777mx "sub", rating mods on the grip they use in the front does not work, s777 mx is a whole other way of mod (and feels totally different)^^

For the mod i have to say, this time, its okay but nothing new, there are at least one mod i know of wich uses the small ct cap with signo in it.

Thats what i did with ct cap in front (i addet a g3 tip over the signo in the ct cap and i used s777 method in order to lengthen the pen^^)
Neverless, i know that i came to the idea with the ct cap on rsvp by seeing it on a mod -->im sure its been done before u did it.
I searched, but sry i couldnt find the tut, i think it was in gpc only so chances u couldv seen it are low.

Okay this mod (and mine)is using an rsvp but well...as the ct cap fits BETTER (wich means without filing, cutting, taping or whatever. U even dont have to mode the rsvp grip;)) and does click on the front (wich means that it can be taken off and on again-->u do not need to make awhole in the g3 backplug wich does not work as well as on the rsvp backplug)on a rsvp front your mod is no improvement, same goes with the decreased length (g3
Same goes for the name, i dont see why there has to be "matic" in it because u use a gripmatic tip in order to get weight, thats simply no important part of that mod since u can easily change that to other tips.

I hope u dont get that wrong, i dont want to make the mod worse than it is, but its (imo) neither new nor the best way to do a mod this way.smile.gif
The best way should have hyperjell/jimnie cap on the back because counting the front from rsvp grip to end of signo tip the jell cap is nearly about the same length-->the mod has the cop at the coss. (ill go search because i have such a mod somewhere on my unfinished mods box...i think im gonna finish it now^^)

    Edit:
    Sry for the bad quality.

i dont think you have a very good understanding of this mod purplet...

everything you've described to me seems to be out of place...

subs can be determined by replacing parts on a pen or making a pen to look like another. K2 didnt mean it because there were g2's used on the front

you compared a g2 mod to an rsvp mod so there is no valid excuse there

just because you've done it before doesnt mean that im not allowed to do it and that certainly doesnt mean that i cant post a tutorial for the mod

it uses matic in the name because it uses the tip and the grip of the gripmatic. read the tutorial more clearly

if you look at the parts the g3 and the gripmatic are the only pens that use more that 1 parts from it so i named it after the prodominate pens used

so i feel completely fine with this mod. thank you

I guess you're right. I didn't really judge it on being a sub because of the grip, the whole thing is s777mx esque.
