Presentation / Smoothness Vs Difficulty

Not really the same as smoothness vs speed, so I thought I'd make a new thread. I've seen this a lot with ISAE's vids, people commenting on how his difficulty is great, but his smoothness needs work. Do you think difficulty should be practiced first, then continually practicing difficult tricks to get them smooth, or get your smoothness up to par first, then try focusing on difficult tricks?

Id still go with smoothness

Hmm, you need smoothness for anything to presentable imo, but you should work on difficult tricks at the same time so you can get the smooth when you need them.
Difficult tricks shouldn't be presented until they are smooth, but you can practice them and work on smoothness, I think you need a balance between the two, but with a heavier emphasis on smoothness when starting out so you can have at least a basic repertoire smooth. -

"get your smoothness up to par first, then try focusing on difficult tricks"
practice is key. -

As Awesome said. Work on difficult tricks until you can get them smooth.

I never complained about ISAE's smoothness, it's his style. His fingers aren't controlled and he uses a lot of excess handmotion/elbow motion.
And it's not about smoothness, it's about Style. Style over difficulty. If you don't look good, then you no good. Not completely true, but you get what I mean. -

I think the greater question is whether you mean the linkages or the tricks being smooth. If it's the smoothness of the tricks themselves, I'd say smoothness is more important. But if it's the linkages between the tricks, I'd null. They're both important to me, then.
Also, it's not necessarily the smoothness of ISAE's combos, it's his style which has a detrimental effect. -

It isn't nice to keep using ISAE as an example
Anyway smoothness is more important to me, unless the difficult trick is really hot and crazy -

smoothness: fixed
decent-ish combo.
arm movement: mostly fixed...
fingers: getting there....
k eventually. should be fine before my 2 year >__>
w/e i don't mind being used as an example. i'll start minding when i've fixed everything....... -

I think it may depend.
When presenting smoothness is a priority, but when your practicing, difficulty may be prioritized. -

I agree with most of the people, smoothness is the key. But after smoothness comes difficulty of course
Smoothness = pen blur effect which is awesome -

Is it stupid if I say that with me Difficulty of the tricks is the most important
I notice that nobody mention about difficulty -

i would go with smoothness.
even combos of fundamental tricks looks very nice when thery r smoothly performed.
