General Discussion / World Tournament 2008?

Hi Guys,
It's almost been a year since WT2007, loads of spinners are telling me they don't want to wait for 2009 for the next world tournament, so i am posting up a topic here now to find out whether or not people here want one in 2008 or not. I don't really mind to be honest i will go with the majority what they want.
Post up your opinions so i can an idea what people want,

Sure lets make it a yearly event. If we wait too long most probably will forget and the tourny will die.

If this were to happen in 2008, would it be at a similar time of year as the last one?
And yes, I think a 2008 tournament is a fabulous idea! Bi-yearly is too seldom for a world tourney imo.
Edit: If there is to be a world cup in the off years, then the singles world tournament should be bi-yearly -

I disapprove, make the WT a 2 years event, so that the off-year can be used to run local tournaments as qualifications for the WT, and also to run the World Cup.

agree:
2 years must be! it would too less time between the tournaments for intern events.
and qualitiy of spinners wont change that much. u have nearly the same spinners like last year then.
with 2 years everybody has more time to practise.
every year would destroy it, because it will be get too normal some day. there will be too much winners... so that a win wont count anything in nearer times.
ps.: to fill in the 1 year, there is the team-tournament°! -

I totally agree with that.
WT is under a period of ~3 months. During those months no other tournament can be held since hey, it's the WT going on, right?
That leaves 9 months of practice and other tournaments. 9 months... tbh, that isn't THAT much time to improve your skills. If you make it annual WT would pretty much be the same spinners(I know, they are the best, but give the other some time to compete about it aswell) from year to year. Not that it's bad, I just like the curiosity of who's going to be in the late matches.
Make WT every 2nd year, and make place for smaller tournaments and competitions in the year between. Make it something to look forward to, not something that's a burden. -

Yet I think that spinners can change so much in one year that a world-tournament is completely different. Perhaps the top will still be the same, in that you are correct, but so many "new" spinners will make it to later rounds atleast.
Yearly or bi-yearly; I don't know. I does not take a year for neither WT nor qualifications on local boards though. -

I also agreeed that the WT should be in 2009 so more new spinners now have time to practice and join the tourney in 2009

DasIstJaStuhl, about pen spinners not progressing in 1 year, In the last world tournament, nobody knew about A13X, he has only 9 months of spin, and is easily getting into the top 10 in FPSB, and cloud traveler, i don't really need to say much because his spinning and the time that he has been spinning kind of speaks for itself.
I've said to Zombo before that i don't mind what goes on, i don't mind helping in organizing the team tournament/world cup, it's up to you guys to decide what you guys want.
By the way, i just wanted to say for all teh small communities that didn't participate in the last world tournament, please contact me to discuss about future tournaments. Thanks a lot -

One year is too little, and I'd rather have the wait be too long than too short. When you make the tournament annual, it becomes less prestigious given the scope of the competition. That's why the Olympics are every 4 years. If other boards want to compete yearly, that's fine, but the advantages of UPSB competing biennially is that we can send our best spinners to the tournament (selected through internal competition) without feeling pressed for time. A lot of potentially great spinners can join within 2 years.

personally, i would love a 2008 world tournament, since it always brings out superb and many well thought-out combos.
however, i guess it would all depend on how many people from communities are willing to participate. -

We should have it next year.
Every even year we should have the Pen Spinning World Cup, then every odd year we should have the Tournament for the boards/forums. Between this, we should have team tournaments. -

It should be every 2 years. Like Ceedgee said, 9 months isn't that long. It feels like the WT just ended not too long ago.

Totally agree, 1 WT in 2 years imo is better. -

Exactly! IMO, 2 years is really the good date for the WT. I would participate in 2 years for more practice next year. -

Too high a frequency spoils the novelty of the event. Before we know it, less people will be interested in it.

I think it's better to have the WT in 2009,for the suspense
And for creativity,the style of spin change during 2 years,so it's better for me^^
