got a big red roll of vinyl tape from home depot but i'm unsure of how to proceed. i know i need a good sharp blade and accuracy with it, but other than that
maybe experts like TEK might let us in on their secrets? -

These kind of questions should be in quick mod questions, but the answer is simple
Wrap your tape around the section you want to do the design on, don't put it on too tight otherwise it will shrink and fall out.
Then draw out a pattern you like, cut out that pattern, then remove everything around it leaving that part.
hope that helps. -

If you press too hard when cutting, it will leave marks.

Just use a barrel you dont need.
For me, I have a ton of useless retractable rsvp bodies, so I use those.
Sure it leaves tons of scratches, but I dont need the barrel(s).
And just a tip: if you use a barrel to cut the tape on, swirl one long strip of tape onto the body so you make the most use out of the tape you cut.
And try not to leave spaces between the swirls. Make it so each swirl touches eachother so it looks like the barrel is completely covered in tape. -

thanks guys! you're awesome!
dori, your method rly helped a lot last night, i'll have pictures of the mod up soon enough.
i also tried another method that worked alright-taping a flat surface and cutting out the shapes that way. used that for the cap on my mod. also used a razor blade since i dont own an x-acto knife. i'll see what you guys think! -

huh, i just stick a piece of tape onto my blotter and cut out designs with an X-acto knife. My blotter is all cut up, but i just cut it out there and stick them on my barrel. And if i ever want to change my tape design on my barrel, i just take the tape off and put a new design on, that way theres no scratches on the barrel from the first design

i used that sort of method as well. especially effective for cutting out smaller pieces.
