Official announcement

OFFICIAL WEBSITE: http://www.worldcup08.co.nr/
Hi,
So I want to put an official announcement that me and Crash have decided to go forth with the idea of a World Cup in 2008. This is NOT the World Tournament, so don't even ask. This is a team tournament which will run every other year (in alternance with the World Tournament).
I have written two wiki articles with more info:
http://www.upsb.info/wiki/index.php/World_Cup
http://www.upsb.info/wiki/index.php/World_Cup_format
Nothing is set in stone yet, so rules and dates can change anytime.
I have also assembled the team for UPSB which I will be managing.
Every spinner has confirmed their presence so I'm pretty sure this is the lineup we're going to send on day 1 of competition:
- ChauTran
- DaThroat
- Eriror
- Scott Shaputis
- Toast
- Vicgotgame
Notice the list is in alphabetical order. This is because we don't know yet who will be a starter or a substitute yet. We will go with whoever's spinning best at the moment. Also note that the role of the spinners may change during the course of the tournament.
If you have a question, PLEASE make sure it has not been answered in the wiki already. Me or Crash will then gladly answer. -

Would a spinner that could also represent another board not be able to represent UPSB? (Talking about me, I might represent SweSpin. Does that mean I can't represent UPSB? Just want the information, not looking to join the UPSB team or anything )
Awesome team though, nice Genesis lineup -

Spin = McDudelsaeck, for UPSB people.
What's wrong with that? I think Spin is great... -

Sounds good. Just one thing.
I'm curious how the time schedule is in the group play. You say that one round is 4 weeks, and that group play should be 4 rounds total. But during that time you need to do 8 matches? Should The first part of the time schedule is gone since we all pick the spinners in the beginning.
Still 3 weeks left tho. =/ -

there's 2 group stage rounds, each group stage round last one month.
during each group stage, your team plays 4 matches AT THE SAME TIME.
so in total you have 8 matches with 2 rounds. -

Do you record one video for all 4 battles or 4 different videos? -

4 different videos of course,
once all the matchups are made, its everybody on their own. -

Rape them all =) -

Heh I doubt Id have enough time to film for all those battles. Im pretty busy this year and I dont think my skill level can compete with those from the other boards. I still gotta imrove a bit more. DaThroat's unique style gives him an edge over those other "korean style" spinners so he has a better chance then me. Good luck to you guys! -

Quick Questions
1.Are the 10 penspinning boards posted on wiki 100% participaing in the WC08?
2.From group matches to semi final how are you going to match the teams up?
I mean in the semifinal
Group A Group B
1st vs 2nd
2nd vs 1st
is the match up going to be like this or just random.
3. It said WC08 will have 2 rounds of Group Matchs that means each spinners have to make 4 videos at once
and total of 8?
4. I don't understand what you mean by judge votes when teams have a tie can you explain more about it?
Last Q.
5. In the Group Matches winning team get 3 poins 0 for loss 1 for tie so
Team A Team B
win lose
lose win
lose win
win lose
if that happens
is the score A 2 : B 2 so each team gets 1 point? or
since there are 2 wins for each team they each get 6 points?
Thanks
p.s PDS had agreed to participate in the WC08 and we are currently pick 6 spinners -

IS there actually a competition place? or do they just film themselves?
-
Date: Thu, Nov 29 2007 00:11:53
they just film it themselves.
did you actually expect a live competition? -
Date: Thu, Nov 29 2007 01:02:37QUOTE (Joshy @ Nov 28 2007, 06:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>...
1. Yes, every single community is currently or has already selected their team.
2. Yes it is as you said. The #1 of group A will fight #2 of group B, and #1 of B vs #2 of A, just like in FIFA.
3. No, in each round each spinner is fighting only against one opponent only, so you make one video.
4. For each match, judges have to decide which of the two videos is better. So if there are 5 judges, then you can win a match 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0. Each of those count as one judge vote. So a team wins each of its 4 matches by a count of 5-0, it has in total 20 votes.
5. No, you're not fighting 4 times against the same team.
Let me give an example on how the group rounds work:
Suppose that in a group we have Team A, Team B, Team C, Team D, Team E. Team A has the spinners A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, team B has the spinners B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, etc...
If I am Team A, then I have to send a spinner to fight Team B, another one to fight team C, another one to fight team D, another to fight team E. Likewise, team B sends one spinner to fight team A, one to fight team C, one for team D, one for team E, etc.
Now team A manager sends this lineup to Crash: A1 fights B, A3 fights C, A2 fights D, A4 fights E.
team B manager sends his lineup: B2 fights A, B5 fights C, B6 fights D, B1 fights E.
team C manager sends his lineup: C3 fights A, C2 figths B, C4 figths D, C6 figths E.
team D manager sends his lineup: D4 fights A, D5 fights B, D3 figths C, D2 fights E.
team E manager sends his lineup: E6 fights A, E2 figths B, E5 fights C, E1 fights D.
Now crash has all the lineups, he compares them and build the matchups:
Team A said they sent A1 to fight B. And team B said they send B2 to fight A. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match A1 vs B2.
Team A said they sent A3 to fight C. And team C said they send C3 to fight A. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match A3 vs C3
Team A said they sent A2 to fight D. And team D said they send D4 to fight A. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match A2 vs D4
Team A said they sent A4 to fight E. And team E said they send E6 to fight A. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match A4 vs E6
Team B said they sent B5 to fight C. And team C said they send C2 to fight B. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match B5 vs C2
Team B said they sent B6 to fight D. And team D said they send D5 to fight B. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match B6 vs D5
Team B said they sent B1 to fight E. And team E said they send E2 to fight B. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match B1 vs E2
Team C said they sent C4 to fight D. And team D said they send D3 to fight C. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match C4 vs D3
Team C said they sent C6 to fight E. And team E said they send E5 to fight C. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match C6 vs E5
Team D said they sent D2 to fight E. And team E said they send E1 to fight D. Therefore there will be a 1vs1 match D2 vs E1.
In total you have 10 matches which uses 20 spinners, 4 from each of the 5 teams. Each team has 1 spinner fighting each of the 4 other teams. So now the spinners send their videos, and the judges vote for each battle. Suppose here are the results:
A1 vs B2: A1 wins
A3 vs C3: A3 wins
A2 vs D4: A2 wins
A4 vs E6: A4 wins
B5 vs C2: draw
B6 vs D5: B6 wins
B1 vs E2: B1 wins
C4 vs D3: C4 wins
C6 vs E5: C6 wins
D2 vs E1: E1 wins
Now you build the ranking for every team:
Team A: 4 victories = 12 points.
Team B: 2 victories, 1 draw, 1 loss = 7 points.
Team C: 2 victories, 1 draw, 1 loss = 7 points.
Team D: 4 losses = 0 points.
Team E: 1 victory, 3 losses = 3 points.
Then you repeat again for round 2.
Then you have your final ranking.
You take the two best to go to semi-finals, same thing for the other group. -

as announced in the podcast #4 thread, the official start of the World Cup is January 19th, 2008.
Right after the podcast is over, the two groups will be known, and the managers will be able to send their lineup, which indicates which spinner they are going to send to fight which other team in their group. -

i've just asked Mr.LSC about the tournament.. he told me that he doesn't want to participate in the world cup because he feels he's being ordered to participate just because the rest of the world is. he also said that he wasn't even asked to participate..
so yea.. PDS isn't going to participate.. -
Date: Thu, Dec 13 2007 03:29:52
So that leads to only KPSA representing Korea?
A bit sad PDS turned out that way... -
Date: Thu, Dec 13 2007 03:51:55
meh, KPSA has all the best spinners anyway. many spinners dislike PDS and Mr.LSC so I'm not surprised.

Date: Thu, Dec 13 2007 08:07:51
We had some problem getting PDS + KPSA = KOREAN TEAM
cause MR.LSC acted like a kid ............... ã…¡.ã…¡;;
He told me to take care of everything about the WC08
and i felt the same way about the KPSA having the best KOREAN spinners
so i posted a topic saying
"KPSA is representative of KOREA in WC08"
and in p.s i said "I want to be the manager ha ha plz"
and MR.LSC kicked me off from BM... in PDS
for helping KPSA or something...............;;; -

Mr. LSC is ridiculous..

ayatori[ES]
key3
SAIZEN
kUzu[ES]
Pesp[ES]
toro[ES]
I thought NIKoo would have made it before toro, but I guess not. -
Date: Wed, Dec 19 2007 02:08:49
ayatori and key3 were kind of obvious competitors from the start. Majority are Evolution Spinners, lol. Nice to see kUzu on the line-up as well. :)
Edit: ...Just checked the list nominees. I can't believe Zndice/deric was a candidate; too bad he barely got any votes. -
