Board Help / UPSB Recovery

As I'm sure you guys are all aware of, UPSB has just undergone a major crash where we lost all our data from June to now. This thread will be used to provide you with information on what we will doing, what you can do at the moment, and how we can work together to get back as much as possible in order to function normally again.
1) If you are a newly registered member now, but have already been a member here for a few months, and lost your ability to vote or to do other full member functions, please post here to request for a full member status. A full member status is usually granted to those who have 20 posts, but if you lost all that, we will be willing to give that back to you under the condition that we recognize seeing you around for at least a month or two.
2) If you posted up a tutorial or some sort of thread, and you notice that it is missing, please repost it on your own. Same goes for videos, regular posts, etc... Basically, anything you can remember that you did, re-do it if it's now missing. If you use Google Cached Pages , you could try to find out what you previously wrote so that you don't have to write up the whole thread again. (For example, this was extremely useful for me to get the UPSB WC'10 Collab thread info back 'cause I just had to search for "UPSB WC'10 Collab" on google, and click on "Cached", copy and paste it, and made a new thread.)
3) A lot of feedback is now missing, but there is nothing we can do about it. We will not give you your feedback back even if you lost +30 or just +1. And don't give feedback for past trades either; this is to prevent abuse by scammers. If we allow people to give feedback for past trades, we'll have too many feedbacks and we won't be able to tell the real ones from the fake ones. This would be too dangerous as scammers could create fake accounts and get high number of positive feedback.
4) Name Changes -- Use the name change thread again.
5) Post count/Profile Views -- Sorry, we can't bring up your post count/profile views. Post count usually only matters so you can vote, play games, etc. See 2) above.
6) Finally, if you remember/notice that a thread or something is missing, contact the original thread maker and/or post what is missing here. We'll use this thread as a way to try and remember as a group what went missing, and trying out best to recover it.
Information on Google Cache only stays up for a certain period of time before it gets erased, so please try to remember what went missing as soon as possible so we can try to get information back from Google Cache if possible. Especially any important threads that might've gone missing, do your best to remember what those are. If you find something that hasn't been restored yet, please save it on your computer first in case the original poster doesn't get it in time.
Update: how to search something on google cache...
Go to www.google.com as usual, then in the keyword box, type in "site:upsb.info keywords here". This will limit the search to pages in upsb.info, which will likely give you a better result. When you find the page link, look for the "cached" link.
Here is a link to an explanation of what happened to UPSB: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=21536
We apologize for this inconvenience, but lets try to get this board back into shape asap.
Use this thread for further comments/questions and suggestions (as mentioned above in #6). -

Also, if you know of something important thread that has been copied and reposted on other forums, please provide a link. That will help us repost the content here.

What about ladder battles? My last battle against awesome is gone. Is there any way i can get that back? What if i send him a battle request and ask for a default victory? Would that be alright if he agrees?

Possible solution for restoring feedbacks
go to google and type your username + upsb + feedback
and click the cached page of the most recent one
and you might just see your recent feedbacks -
Date: Fri, Oct 16 2009 19:18:16
Yes, if you PM me the link to the google cached image of your feedback as soon as possible (before the Google Cache gets erased), then I will screenshot the image and save it, and I will restore you to that feedback on the image in the near future. (There may be some criteria on who is eligible for doing this though, but we'll announce that in a bit if there is one)
Remember, I want the link like this: http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:aDPsX1...=clnk&gl=us
Don't screenshot it yourself, I'll do it. -

couple things that were brought up:
-search functionality is not working
-modrod contest thread is gone -
Date: Fri, Oct 16 2009 22:23:36
I updated the first with a bit of info on how to use Google to search for cached pages.
-
Date: Fri, Oct 16 2009 22:47:35
I was wondering if you could restore post counts if we link you to a google cached page showing it like JC said with the feedback.
-
Date: Fri, Oct 16 2009 23:17:36
sorry, but post count is not very important other than grant you access to arcade and voting privileges. We'll be glad to restore those as time allows.
I updated the first post and created a new thread for those who have lost regular member status: http://www.upsb.info/forum/index.php?showtopic=21593 -

@SJ:
If I do like you say - I searched for " peda + upsb + feedback" on youtube-
the link of my trade treat appears, but without "in Cache". I can only click on "similiar"
Did I do anything wrong or is my feedback gone for ever? -

@ Zombo: Thx a lot
JC, is this enough for you to restore my feedback account to +11? -
Date: Sun, Oct 18 2009 17:17:47
it looks my email verification is not working. I got a couple messages on YouTube from people who tried to re-register and were unable to validate their account.

It looks like all of the email verification issues are related to people using hotmail accounts.
I would strongly suggest switching email to something other than hotmail. It seems that microsoft's anti-spam policy (used by hotmail) is pretty flaky and blocks emails (not even sending them to junk folder or returning a rejected message to the sender) that other email companies would usually allow.
I will try to fix this issue on UPSB's side, but if you're interested in reading why I stay away from hotmail, read this article: http://www.iis-aid.com/articles/iis_aid_ne...heir_own_throat . Out of the 10 most popular emails, hotmail was the only one that blocked this guy's emails after he took several steps to make sure his email server was properly setup. So i'm not really hopeful that emails sent from upsb will start working with hotmail after I make the changes. :/ -

you need to ask the old leader to make new leader
