    The Research Department has released an article on the wiki. You can view the article here: Neosonic deprecation. The article suggests no longer use the term Neosonic.

    I always thought that the term NeoSonic came from the resemblence of the push of the trick as a Neophyte would perform a Normal Sonic, not from the actual trick.

    thats right, the neosonic is a common mistake when beginners attempt to do the sonic.

    but deprecating neosonic because it can be confused with the sonic is still a valid reason.

    So in some cases, the term Neosonic wouldn't be specific enough to describe the notation. Like a Neosonic 34-T1.
