I've been throwing my pens into ziplock bags and drawers for a while now and decided it was time to get a decent case to hold them. I went to the store near my house where I usually buy my pens to mod and all of their cases were too short for my longest pens. So, I got my mom to whip out the sewing machine and help my out with making this roll-up case. (she thought I was crazy, sewing a pen case....... )
- It has 12 "slots" for pens and 1 last pocket for odds and ends (far left of open case)
- Each slot is pretty wide; big enough to hold thicker pens
- Here are some pics that I just took quickly...
[pens from left to right: keityo sign pen with black caps on both ends and rsvp back-ink caps added,
orange ucpsb mx, double-capped rsvp, rsvp cx, rsvp mmx, Marvy Brush Marker, Pendolsa Metallic Comssa v.10,
Dong-A comssa, again, and again, fabric marker mod, long pencil with tape and grips]
rolling......
rolling..............
final rolled up case
I would have gotten the pendolsa zippered case, but I didnt really feel like spending that much money on something to hold my pens.... -

thats cool, but its too big to carry around. you only need a case if you want to carry stuff around, otherwise why not just put them in a big box at home

I bring my pens back and forth from my university and home on breaks for long weekends or whatever, thats the only time I'll need it.
I just like how this keeps them all organized and in one place -

Is it just fabric sewn together, or is there batting inside to cushion the pens?
-

It has one layer of batting as well. I want to keep those pens safe from harm!QUOTE (UEDan @ Nov 21 2007, 04:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Its a cool concept man, but its kinda big. Mini vesrsion?
Yep, I could have made it a full 3 inches shorter, but I wanted to fit my extra long pens in there as well... -

I thought you bought an apron and put your pens in it from the pic ^^
-

what happens if you hold it upside down? the pens will fall and there's no way to tell if its upside down or not when it's rolled.
-

If you roll it up tight enough, the pens won't fall. It's just a roll-up case like paint brushes are carried in. They're plenty secure, unless you go swinging it around by the bottom or something.

I got this exactly same idea too but i and my mum are not familiar with using the sew machine. Later i thought that it would be quite inconvenient if i dont bring a bag to put it in when i go out.
Suggestion: why not you tie it around your waist with all the pens and..... penboy? -

news:
I'm back at school now from thanksgiving break, but when this semester is over I'll be making a much smaller compact one to bring with me on vacation in december...
I was thinking of making it like more pocket sized, holding around 3 or 4 max pens to keep it thin.
Pics will be posted when I get back home and sew it up (around dec. 18th )
P.S. - I will definetely be making these for people's birthdays now that my mom showed me how to use her sewing machine -

That's pretty cool. I would appreciate a template, if you can make one, for this kind of case.

I'm doing sewing (unfortunately) atm, but we are only making aprons . I think the year above us is making pencil cases, but I know how to use the sewing machine now.

Sewing isn't really that good, but as a year 8 i have to try out all the electives so that I can choose for year 9. -
