    Uh.. English is not my native language, but I'd still say pen spinning.
    I'm not sure whether it's a compound noun in Finnish, even. huh.gif

    What the hell, explain yourself please.

    I always separate pen and spinning, it just seems right to me.

    lol this is from wikipedia:

    Front vowels and the flattened 'i'

    A vowel shift has occurred in New Zealand English. Front vowels, with one exception, are pronounced higher in the mouth than in England English. RP /ɪ/, the unrounded near-close near-front lax vowel, has moved to [ə] (schwa). Some non-NZ speakers mistakenly assert that, when New Zealanders say "fish and chips" they say "fush and chups". This may be asserted because of the lack of a letter for schwa. Below the latter word is how the former word may sound to the ears of a non-New Zealander:

    * pan → pen
    * pen → pin
    * pin → pun
    * pair → peer

    As always when discussing accent differences, others may misinterpret the speech of New Zealanders because they pronounce their vowels differently due to their accent.

    TBH, the thread wasn't really about that BananaKetchup, it is the way it is written not spoken.

    Unfortunately though Rorix, it is true that Kiwi's vowels sound different to the rest of the world, doesn't really matter though.

    "penspinning" is not even a word.

    I'm a fan of Pen Spinning myself. However I don't usually use it as a proper noun so it doesn't come up.

    I always though correct terminology was pen-spinning.

  13. Foofdude

    It should be pen spinning, but I mostly use penspinning simply because I'm too lazy to type the space.

    I would say pen spinning.

    My reasoning: penspinning could become either pen-spinning or pens-pinning.

  17. Sfsr
    Date: Fri, Nov 30 2007 08:50:14

    Haha.

    I made the exact same thread on UCPSB. I said Pen Spinning to start with, with two capital letters, but now always use penspinning or pen spinning. Everyone agreed that pen-spinning with a - would be wrong grammatically though.

  18. WhiteFang
    Date: Fri, Nov 30 2007 09:56:10

    lets just call it ps

    i like it to link words just with capital letters.

    look at my name =)

    If we're really strict about following the English language, it should be pen spinning. Penspinning (or PenSpinning) will be creating a new word. Personally, I don't really see any valid reason for writing them as one word. Laziness is not a valid reason.

  21. Tialys
    Date: Mon, Dec 3 2007 17:17:24

    pen = noun
    spinning = gerund verb

    Ergo, two words.

  22. Square
    Date: Mon, Dec 3 2007 22:49:45

    In this case, "pen" would be an adverb since it describes the verb "spinning."

    So, pen spinning would be the acceptable term.

    As far as I'm concerned;

    Pen Spinning would mean doing a few tricks unconciously, not so seriously, or unprofessionally. It would be nothing more than spinning a pen.
    Penspinning would mean doing free styles or combos carefully, seriously, or professionally. It would be a performance or an art.

    No no really... No one here (except one I think) spins (or has spun) professionally.
    It's not a job, it's a hobby.
    So why is there a difference?

  25. Aphsamoth
    Date: Fri, Dec 7 2007 12:09:27

    Well, I think we could say that s/he does professionally if someone spins in a TV commercial.

    The latter just sounds like a technical term.

    There is actually no differences other than the blank between 'Pen' and 'Spinning'.
    I think that Tim intends to ask us, if we try to distinguish Penspinning from Pen Spinning, how we define them.

    unfortunatly someone at school said I was pms'ing when I said I was ps'ing which also sounds like piss'ing.
    so I never say that

    I think either works well.

    From a grammatical point of view it should be pen spinning

    but for purposes of youtube tags or stuff like that it would be more convenient if it was penspinning am I right?

    And those people who are too lazy have a point.. lol if they type penspinning at least twice everyday, they save on 29200 keystrokes in the next 40 years which can actually preserve your thumb's integrity to allow for better penspinning... tongue.gif

    "Pen spinning" is absolutely cleaner and better English when talking in English. However, because we are essenUsing the word penspinning just begs a fringe, subcultural, and isolated connotation. Spelling it in camel case "PenSpinning" is just out of date.

    i feel that either pen spinning or penspinning would be correct. my reasoning: what do we do when we make a RSVP MX? we take one pen, and put it together with another pen, so why cant we do it with our words? i think that pen spinning would be like just having a nice rsvp and a hgg, but penspinning would be like our MX. biggrin.gif
