well... just to get my thread back up, i finally managed to think of some questions xDD
atm, they're related to computers (which i could have posted on the "Computer help thread" but i don't exactly like to sift out my information D: )
1. What's the difference between Mac and Windows?
2. I already forgot =.=""" -
Date: Mon, Nov 9 2009 23:23:37
try googling first

wait what? oh, japanese in general.... not me....
XD -
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 00:41:42
the uniforms are awesome D:

they don't have to change classes each period D:
going to school by train seems fun D: (aw i can do that in uni xD)
at least they have club practice D: we don't have any clubs D:
getting home at 7 isn't that bad D:
at public schools, students sleep in class D: -

oh i just remembered my other question =D
1) if i install games on an external hard drive, will it slow down the game
2) if i do install games on the external hard drive, will it eventually slow down the computer like how every other computer slows down because of too many installed programs? -
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 01:05:53
You can't install games on external hard drives.
-
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 02:22:51QUOTE (hoiboy @ Nov 13 2009, 09:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>You can't install games on external hard drives.
i've done it
it works fine
it just works like it would on the C: drive, just a different path
and i dont think it will slow the game down
depends on the game though, maybe
all i play is peggle and that isn't high-quality-need-every-moving-detail-to-get-a-head-shot-or-avoid-getting-killed-style graphics
plus, the laptop hard drive is like.... 2MB -
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 03:30:28
so what about something like Sims 3? xDD
-
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 10:14:33
I think it would.
I dont know if a solid state is better -
Date: Fri, Nov 13 2009 10:51:05
It only matters if the game loads stuff from disc while it is running. I'd imagine that it would increase loading times a little, but other than that, not really.

no problem, but you can't just take your intalled game and play it on any other computer you didn't install on.QUOTE2) if i do install games on the external hard drive, will it eventually slow down the computer like how every other computer slows down because of too many installed programs?
games dont usually contain spywares.

really?
we played peggle at school through thumbdrive, i could plug and play through that....
some programs allow you to do the same (in my experience, like audacity)
and now, as i hijack this thread:
is there a reason why i can play these games/run these programs through my thumbdrive without installing?
if so, what programs allow you to do this? (vegas apparently doesn't allow above) -
Date: Sun, Nov 15 2009 13:31:30
ITS HACK!! so you dont transfer software through flash drives
and you need the folders to run the app. -
Date: Sun, Nov 15 2009 16:05:06
Some programs will modify system settings or create registry keys, which are local to the computer that you install it on. Other applications store settings in other ways (such as a file in its local directory), which allow it to be run from whereever. Also, libraries that the application may depend on are sometimes installed to system32 (the windows system directory, where it automatically searches for libraries), meaning that they are also stored on the local computer. Plenty of commercial products also intentionally use DRM (digital rights management) in the form of copy protection to make sure that it can only be used on one computer, the methods for this vary greatly and there are a lot of different ways to do it.
Lots of open source and free software applications store settings in files because they do not care if it is used on many different computers or spread around (in fact, they encourage it). Plus, it is so much fucking easier to store shit in files.
Oh yeah, and I think that PopCap games are just against DRM not sure though, so their products can be transferred as well. It's best to buy them though, as they make some pretty damn good games and deserve the money. -

Ok cool.
So.. Launchy or Keybreeze? -
Date: Mon, Nov 16 2009 06:13:10
i dont know keybreeze i only use launchy and its good enough for me
-
Date: Tue, Nov 17 2009 14:03:51
I heard keybreeze uses less memory. Launchy looks cooler though. Don't know about performance.
-
Date: Thu, Nov 19 2009 18:36:10
launchy barely uses anything...

what's the difference between GHZ and RAM if say, you have only one HUGE program running?
-
Date: Tue, Dec 8 2009 04:33:52
GHz is a measure of cpu speed
RAM is a type of memory your computer uses.
a huge program could either use a lot of processing power or a lot of memory or both, so your question is too vague. most likely by huge you mean a program that takes a lot of memory though. -

erm to add emoticons, u just rightclick , add. they will have a list of options for u to choose like what word must u type for the emoticon to appear. thats it, and from then , u can know what the person is trying to say -

@Zombo: ok thanks i'll use that when i get my own laptop
having said that, i don't know what laptop i should get...
i'm getting it for uni/college so it'll be work based but i also want it to be able to play games like sims 3 and possibly some LAN games like counter strike
my budget is about $2000+ AUS but i'm hoping i can get one that's cheaper than 2000+ XD -

Im typeing from a mac right now and it is just more of a buissness computer so id suggest windows if your looking to buy mac also has less people that support them so some windows downloads wont work and they have bad editing systems
-
Date: Mon, Dec 14 2009 01:40:05
$2000 AUS sounds like a lot, probably not enough to buy a macbook, but you can get something that plays sim3 and CS for sure.
for laptop, focus should not be on performance, it should be battery life, weight and durability. -

mac book pros 13.5 inch are about 1500 aud
could be possible to look into some sort of windows emulator (vmware fusion, parallels) but that would need you to install windows 7
some games could work using wine (a free program), no need to install 7
but i've had trouble with that tho -

if you dont mind having to reboot everytime you want to switch between windows and mac, boot camp is fine

That means your laptop is still holding the previous format in the cache of the drive itself. (Like taking out a usb-drive out of an E-Sata combo slot and it not being able to read e-sata).
Quickest way is to try and reinstall the drivers for it.
9/10 times that will usually work. -

i'm reading this book and i came across something that's puzzling my brain now... >.> i'm sure i've seen it before...
QUOTEThree guys in a hotel call room service and order two large pizzas.
The delivery boy brings them up, with a bill for exactly $30. Each guy gives him a $10 bill, and he leaves. That's fact!
When he hands the $30 to the cashier, he is told a mistake was made. The bill was only $25, not $30. The cashier gives the delivery boy five $1 bills and tells him to take it back to the three guys who ordered the pizzas. That's fact!
On the way back to their room, the delivery boy has a thought. These guys did not give him a tip. He figures that since there is no way to split $5 evenly three ways anyhow, he will keep two dollars for himself and give them back three dollars. OK! So far so good!
He knocks on the door and one fellow answers. He explains about a mix-up in the bill, and hands the guy the three dollars, and then departs with the $2 tip in his pocket. Now the fun begins!
Remember $30-$25 = $5 right? $5-$3 = $2 right? So what's the problem? All is well, right?
Not quite. Answer this: Each of the three guys originally gave $10 each. They each got back $1 in change. That means they paid $9 each, which times three is $27.
The delivery boy kept $2 for a tip. $27 plus $2 equals $29. What happened to the other dollar??!???$!*$U@)(*#!)(*# -
Date: Sat, Feb 13 2010 06:08:50
thats always a fun question
ok, let me try and have a go explaining it without reading the answer out of the puzzle book i've got:
ok, so.... lets look at all the physical currency being used here: 3 $10 and 5 $1 (35 bucks in total)
the guys give 30 bucks, and with the delivery boy keeps 2 bucks, then they pay 28 bucks. let us now say that the pizza is worth 28 bucks
so, if they actually pay with 9 bucks each, that will be 1 buck short
with 10 bucks each, they receive 2 bucks change (to split)
if they overkill and pay 11 bucks each ($33) they will receive 5 dollars
so, they pay with 10 bucks each (30 dollars)
they are given 3 bucks in change, and now i just find out i'm rambling....
book time:
ok, so, we know that there is no dollar missing
the question is phrased to say that the 2 dollars was taken away from the amount payed (30-28=2)
where, infact, the 2 dollars should have been added onto the actual pizza price (25+2 dollar tip =27) and therefore, the boys are given 3 bucks change
if i become a pizza delivery boy sometime, i will so definitely fuck with their minds with this trick -
Date: Sat, Feb 13 2010 06:58:48QUOTE (Kari-Chan @ Feb 13 2010, 12:02 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>The delivery boy kept $2 for a tip. $27 plus $2 equals $29. What happened to the other dollar??!???$!*$U@)(*#!)(*
$2 tip is already included in $27, makes no sense to add $2 to $27. -

i dont know if ur using windows seven, but if u got it with vista, theres a power control function at the control panel methinks, so you can set it according to your usage. generally HPs eat power really quickly, and they can also get really hot. but the good thing is they have excellent customer support.

in regards to the temp, you should get a laptop stand desk, some have built in fans that keep it cool
except thats powered by usb, so i think that'll eat more power up
umm.... buy a generator to carry with you? -

if not, just leave the ac adapter in ._. -

um... i'll (want) to use it for uni so it'll probably have to run on battery... =\
-
Date: Sun, Mar 7 2010 07:37:50
Do this:
Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options
Then under your Power Plan > Change Plan Settings. Choose Balanced or Higher Battery life. That will use less hardware/run cooler and it will get better battery life.

my guardian angel has sent me and email and i want to find out who s/he is by using the ip =P
and by using ip, i mean comparing......... if that's even possible... =\ i'm not an internet wiz...
is it possible and how do i do it? =D -
Date: Wed, Mar 10 2010 10:45:38
i'm also not that competent with intarwebs, but i believe that you would have to hack into the isp and get the info off there
which is illegal -
Date: Wed, Mar 10 2010 13:01:38
You can't find out that much with just an IP.
You can do a whois: http://cqcounter.com/whois/ but it won't tell you much. -

the ip address i get will tell me where the email comes from as in the web host right?... i think...?
