hmm...i dont understand why some people have reserves/buyouts.

Putting something up for auction is a risk. You could either make a lot of money depending on the demand, or not as much as you have wanted.

Why not just set the starting bid to the same amount of your reserve since your not going to sell the pen any lower than that anyways...It's a waste of time and posts.

    What do you think?

It's so if someone is really desperate to have something and doesn't mind paying a lot, then there is no risk of anyone else getting it...

Now that I think about it, you do have a point TEK.

I've always used reserves as a failsafe. I didn't want my 3000*f's selling for too cheap, but then I didn't want to scare away people with the starting price.

Buyouts I think are for people that are really desperate. :/ But then when you go back and look at the whole scheme of things, they really overpaid for that _____.

I guess it isn't as big as a problem for you TEK, since your mods are always in high demand.

Honestly, buyouts are like "Buy it now" on eBay.

Basically, from my viewpoint, buyouts are for people who WANTTTTTTTT it like,NOW

I personally wouldnt do it. its either bid on it, or dont bid at all. done deal.

Like for my current auction, I'm selling the Wasp mod, and i dont want to sell it for too cheap cause i spent tons of time on the gripcut :\

The point of reserves/buyouts are to protect the seller,

either from sniping, fluxuation in buyer interest, and many other factors that come with auctions.
Most people put up auctions to make money, not just get rid of mods.

The reason they were introduced was to directly mimic the same auction system that works perfectly fine for eBay.

well, i agree with what people above said

if we dont have reserves, we might end up selling it for super cheap

but setting the initial price as the reserve sort of makes the bidders not wanna bid cuz its pretty high

buyouts are just for people whos willing to pay a crapload of money or if the sellers desperate

but the difference between upsb's auctions and ebay's auctions is that

on ebay, there can be both auction & buy it now simultaneously, but if someone bids, buy it now disappears.

    but there are exceptions...

I agree with TEK on this. An auction is a risky way to sell something, if you don't want to take the risk just sell it the traditional way. Also you can put starting bids for a reason. Why hide the starting bid when every bid under it is essentially pointless?

High Starting bids scare away people, its a known fact.
If someone put , Signed UPSB RSVP from 2009 Staff: starting bid 40$, it might have like, 1 bid on it now.
Or if NEPTUNE started his mod at 50$, it most definately wouldnt have reached the total.

In auction situations, people are CONSTANTLY making "maximum bids" that they will stop at.
However, its shown that almost all of those people dont actually stick to that maximum, and will keep bidding extremely higher if provoked by a bidding war.
All in all, its like i said.
For the most part, an auction in UPSB isnt for the Seller to lose money, and give out great deals, or else theyd just do a regular sale and list the prices extremely low and sell quick.
An auction in UPSB is for the seller to get the most out of their item, and try to get it seen by as much as the community as possible.

I agree that reserves should not be allowed... = | It doesn't make sense to me.

Just make your starting price that minimum if you really want the price at least...

It seems kind of exploitive, reserves huh.gif ...

If a seller wants to get the most out of their item they should have to take the risk they might get very little for it. They have the potential to make huge amounts of money on auctions, so they should accept the fact that it is not a sure thing instead of wasting everyone's time.
