I just read a Times article on how videos that got alot of views people have embedded advertisements (eg. google ads) and made money off that.

Realistically I don't expect the board to make any real money this way, but its just a thought.

I want upsb to have its own channel and attach ads to the vids

yes, thats pretty much how youtube stars make money

but, generally speaking, penspinning videos dont get a lot of views

not to mention its the people on the board that post the videos, not upsb itself

and in order to get a decent amount of money, you need to get A LOT of views. at least 50k. constantly.

jumbafund (youtube channel by kevjumba in which he donates the money he earns on the channel) earns around 1500 a month

and he gets like 300k views on each video...

its not very realistic to be honest.

That would be kinda cool. The ultimate UPSB channel with every video in the history of videos that has over been posted on UPSB. It would be a good resource, and it could possibly make money for UPSB if the channel becomes a youtube partner. (That's what it called right? youtube partners?)

yes, but i don't expect to make that much money. Doesn't UPSB need like ~ $15 a month to run?

edit: oh, and im not expecting this idea to pay it all, its something to ease the cost for people like Kam (insert other guys name here TT_TT) who are forced to pay when they don't get enough donations. (although i could be completly wrong and UPSB easily makes enough by donations, i dunno, I have been away from upsb for a while.)

on the downside i do see this being very annoying having to close an ad to watch a video each time >_> ah well

as far as I know, upsb needs more than $15 to run

upsb has ads so i guess they make a little money off that...but not much

right now, the upsb rsvps sale profits is enough to keep the server going for couple months

but in the future, we probably need some way to raise money...

i guess your idea would work but whos gonna upload all the penspinning videos on upsb's youtube channel if its made?

and im assuming youre talking about all the individual's videos too...

anyway, the thing is, we need LOTS of views

Well if the UPSB channel were made, then there could just be a UPSB's Youtube thread. Everyone would just post all their videos (new, and old) there. Then the mods would have the password for the channel, and they would handle uploading all the videos onto the channel.

And as for getting tons of views; we could just leave that to fate. If it doesn't get a lot of views and make money for UPSB, it would still be a good video resource, right?

If the purpose of making that is to get money, and we get no money from it, it's much more work than it's worth then.
And it's very unlikely that fate would help -.-'' If we get every single person who's on every single board to watch every video, it's still nothinggg compared to the amount of views kevjumba's videos get or something.

As for how much we need.. lets just say that $15 doesn't even cover the cost for our super cheap server (that as you guys know, has been having lots of problems) for a month.

I doubt this will work =\

Pen spinning isn't popular enough to have over 100k views consistently on each video on YouTube if a UPSB channel were to be made. USUALLY, to non pen spinners (people we supposedly target?), pen spinning is nothing more than twiddling a pen. I doubt a non pen spinner will ever be interested in pen spinning to the point where they can actually judge videos based on criteria (tempo, difficulty, etc.) without actually becoming a pen spinner.

This doesn't mean that the channel (if it were to be made) wouldn't get any views at all. I mean, I don't doubt that the first few videos of collabs will get over a million views. Once the videos are first released, people will probably will be like "OH MY GOD! Look at these insane pen tricks!" But, after the month (or less) of fame, it's going to die out. The public wouldn't really be interested in pen spinning anymore since they've already seen it and it gets boring to them.

So...yeah, that's just my thought on this xD

Oh.....and if a UPSB YouTube channel were to happen, think about all the extra work the Mods and Admins of UPSB have to do in order to update and maintain the channel =.= I mean...I doubt any of the staff members will have the time to do all that work. (Well...maybe JC can, since he's on the computer 24/7 anyways tongue.gif)

Last time when an "official" (if that is how you would word it) pen spinning YouTube channel was made, PS Collab Database, it failed. =\ It was pretty popular for a few weeks, but it just died out right after.

Good idea, but it doesn't work... very well.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of ads. UCPSB style ads were fine.
