Ever used the grip of an American Dr. Grip COG and not know what to do with the rest of the pencil?

    Stats
    -------------------------------------------------
Name: Simple American Mini Dr. Grip
COG: 1.25 cm towards the front
    Length: 11.5 cm
Weight: G3 < Mini Dr. Grip < Dr. Grip G-Spec
    Style: Single Sided
    Writing-Mechanism: Mechanical Pencil
    Ink-Type: Pencil Lead

    -------------------------------------------------
    Materials List:
1x American Dr. Grip COG. http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?p...s^return_skus~Y
    2x O-Rings http://penwish.com/product_info.php?products_id=960

    Spoiler:
    1) Disassemble the pen. Set the outer, cloudy/clear grip aside.

    2) Add your O-rings. Then add the inner grip. Do not try to pull the o-rings over the inner grip.

    3) Break off the clip from the clear back part of the Dr. Grip and cut it down to 4.5cm on the clip side.

    4) Take the back part that was originally inside the clear part and cut it down to 3.5-3.6ish cm.

    5) Cut the lead tube to 7cm FROM THE BASE OF THE TUBE, NOT THE MP MECHANISM.

    6) Assemble the front like this:
G-Spec Tip -> Lead Tube -> Clear back part from step 3 -> Previously Assembled "Package"

    7) Screw on the piece from step 4 and push the back clicker into place.

    DONE!

    Awesome!
    Just one question
Could you do this with Dr. Grip pens? Or would it only work for mechanical pencils?

    Thanks,

You can, however you would have to shorten the inktube. Just use most of the ink before you cut it and you should be fine.

    Kind of an awkward mod...
Are the O rings absolutely necessary?

    Thanks,

I just wanted to make use of the left over g-spec bodies that I have.

The rings are not necessary if you leave 0.25 cm more on the clear body but I didn't want to hassle with that.

Yeah. Soon as i get my hands on some. Like I said b4 it's pretty much the same as the mp only with the inktube problem.

EDIT: I just thought of something. There may be a problem with cutting the colored piece that surrounds the clicker of a g-spec pen. I guess I'll have to work that out ._.

I made a pen version, and it's actually surprisingly difficult to prototype.

    1) how does the back part work? the clicker function is stuck at the end which u cutted out.. can u clarify how the back part is done?

    2) any subs for the inner grip? i used mine for Saizen's G3 along with the big grip.

    3) will the MP still shakable? just curious

but thanks for releasing the tut =D

Nachoaddict i think this is a good base for heavy mp mod, but i don't have g-spec's and i don't how it's big etc.

    Hi,

    1) Well that long colored tube only holds the clicker on the sides. In other words it only surrounds the clicker. Therefore if you cut that tube, the clicker should still function properly. This is different for the pen version though...

    2) You can replace the inner grip with lots of scotch tape and an insert. I believe that HGG works quite nicely also.

    3) No unfortunately it is not.

    Thanks,

I don't really intend to make a mod meant for spinning from this. Just a little trinket that can be made after you get rid of the outer g-spec grip.

    4) is the plastic easy to crack like a G-3? or u reckon its much more similar to profiles front (where its really soft to cut.. the part under the grips)

sry for many questions but it is a expensive MP and i dont really wanna risk it until my doubts are all clear..
i do wanna make my MP like the one u had =D

No problem. If I remember correctly, the clear plastic is pretty hard and same with the colored tube that surrounds the lead tube/clicker.

I know for sure that the colored tube is hard but not 100% on the clear. I will have to check...

So if i cut it, there is a chance that it would crack the surrounding area?

Yes. But if you clamp it tightly and saw properly, the most you'll get are a few scratches and small cracks so what you do it saw lesser, meaning you keep the bigger piece and then file it down to the correct length.

If you tried cutting it with a pair of pliers, you'll just crack the thing and it'll shatter into pieces, something like a G3 body. Very fragile if not modded properly.

Yeah it's completely possible. I tried it too but I liked the w/o insert look of the mod better than with the insert.
