UPSB v3

General Discussion / UPSB Secret Santa

    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 19:50:25

I want to organize a Secret Santa on UPSB.

    Rules are simple:

-> You will receive a target. You should be careful not to reveal your identity to your target.
-> You will not know who your secret Santa is.
-> You should send a gift to your target and make sure it arrives before Christmas. Try to stalk find out what s/he likes.
-> Leave messages in your profile to tell your Secret Santa what you want.
-> Gift should have minimum value of $15. Does NOT have to be PS-related.

-> Users who successfully sent their gift will receive positive trade feedback.
-> Users who don't send their gift will receive negative feedback and other possible consequences associated with scammers (e.g. ban)

To sign-up, send a Private Message to Zombo with:

-> Address to ship your gift to
-> What countries you want to ship to. It's recommended to able to ship worldwide but if you can't you can specify where you can ship.

Sign-up deadline is: November 28th, 2009. Targets are assigned the next day.

If you need to pm/contact/taunt your target anonymously, use the account: SecretSanta (password: santa password is not public anymore!).
Do not abuse this account. Profile link.

I think gift of minimum $25 is kinda expensive to some.. maybe alot of us here.

I'm interested in it, but I'm worried about the kinds of people that will sign up just to accept a gift and not send one out.

Edit: yea, I think a $25 minimum is too expensive. maybe $10?

well that's the same thing as scamming and there would be the same consequences as a real scammer

maybe ill only accept ppl with positive trade feedbacks

Sounds like a great idea. $25.00 is pretty much a penwish order so I really don't think that's unreasonable.

    Think I shall have to sign-up happy.gif

  7. Glamouraz

I was thinking $10 would be good too.

And the exchange rate is kinda high on our side so yeah...

Otherwise, i think this is a great idea!

Should there be a certain amount of feedback a person has to have in order to participate? =\

Edit: I don't know if it's just me, but once we include things that are non PS related, the general value of items jumps up imo

  9. Zombo
    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 20:05:37

i dont know about that, but ppl with negative feedbacks should be rejected for sure

$10 seems kinda low glamouraz, since most mods nowadays are worth more than that.

i put $25 cuz thats the price of a KT, but i guess it could be $15

iif ppl agree at $10 then its fine

    maybe I shouldput a poll

  10. JC
    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 20:12:31

i agree with $15, i think the maximum value should be $25 =\
get a gift between $15-25 sounds good

  11. Glamouraz
    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 20:12:33

    Ok cool.

$15 is still fine. $20 starts to get expensive for me though.

So will the person's santa be revealed after that?

And.. how will we know that the gift is over $10? Or is it just a suggested range to make the game fair?

    EDIT:

Do we get feedback for this?

Eh, $15 is fine with me. I guess you're right that $10 seems a bit low since mods mods are over that, but $25 just seems a bit high. kinda a lot of money to be sending to random people

You should put a maximum value poll up there as well

no santas are not revealed, but you can choose to reveal yourself to the person after or give them hints.

the minimum value you must respect otherwise its not fair. if you want to go much beyond thats your generosity.
but it really depends on what the person wants, because people can requests for stuff in their profile. so if their demands are reasonable you can fulfill them

Secret santa is not about getting the right value, its all about sending nice gifts by finding out more about what your target wants.

im gonna give feedbacks to everybody who successfully send their gifts

  14. Loanshark

are the secret santas strictly 2 way?

ie: Santa A gives to Santa B, Santa B gives to Santa A

obviously not? otherwise you would know right away who your santa is since its your target too!

  17. Glamouraz
    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 20:24:55

It could but it would be more fun if it wasn't.

    I wouldn't mind either though.

It would require abit of planning on zombo's side but i think that can be easily solved in awhile.

The only thing hindering me from joining now is the price range.

well i think one of the most fun things in SS is to leave hints to your target, so they try to play detective and find out who you are, thats why I don't reveal santas, they must reveal themselves.

the other thing that is mean to do is to tease your target otherwise you'll send them coal as gift smile.gif

im fairly sure the minimum value is going to be $15. so keep that in mind.

  20. Glamouraz
    Date: Sat, Nov 21 2009 20:30:15

    @JC & Zombo, yes yes. I voted $15.

your target is not gonna be angry if you give them too much lol.. it's not like they're gonna return the gift back

if your target has been a good child this year you should send more smile.gif if they've been naughty send them $15 worth of coal smile.gif

i do some verification for ppl with no experience and that I have no knowledge of, but i think it would be dumb for someone to try to scam in an event organized by the admin, where you only receive a $15 gift by a single person where you don't even control directly what you're going to get... if I'm a scammer I would stick with the usual tactic of gathering a lot of trades by offering amazing deals.

i just think the incentive is very low for someone to scam if you think about it.

not to mention, it's very low to scam a christmas gift...

I use random.org to generate a random order of the participants which I match to my original ordered list.

Then I check if there are conflicts (such as shipping restrictions) and randomize with those people only to break up the conflict.

NOBODY was allowed to specifically request or pick who their target is. Everything is 100% random.

    All PM's have been sent.
