Board Comments / Reputation points for useful posts?

On some forums, you have the option to +1 rep someone's post based on how useful it's been or something, like if they answered your question really well. Under the user stats on the left/right side, there would be an extra "Reputation: x" or something along those lines.

This would be separation from Trading Reputation

I know that if we implement this, there may be problems, such as people going "I'll rep you, you rep me back" or people will make secondary accounts just to give themselves +rep, but on those forums, it's mod approval, so the false +reps get audited or there's a minimum post count.

This would be useful because if someone helps out newcomers a lot, they'll get lots of +rep in return; everyone in general will know that person contributes a lot to the forum and that his/her advice can be trusted or when the admins choose new mods, it would speed up the process of finding potential candidates.

    Thoughts?

Eh, there's not much point to it really, it'll just cause controversy, plus if someone really wants do do something like that, if you click a person's profile you can "rank" them out of 5 stars. Annoying people/spammers usually have 1 or 2 stars, most contributors can maintain 4 stars with ease, so if you're trying to tell if someone's respected check that out.

yea i saw some stuff like that

one i think is a bit better is called "thanks" where you thank someone for making a good post, theres leaderboard that shows who got most thanks

    i kinda like this idea.
but to prevent abuse i think it should be formatted akin to the report function, except it would just show the post being thanked/kudoed/dug/liked/etc
but that means more mod work
