so i had this idea of a go between between a judged battle and public voting.
what if we had preapproved people that can vote on battles?
they would, of course, have to demonstrate extensive knowledge of pen spinning and be able to judge fairly.
judged voting would also require a breakdown to help judge difficulty and creativity.
not that this would apply to all battles, but if the battlers opt for this, it could be an option.
    discuss.

good idea, but we should have some block of text that judges have to read before hand on how battles are judged, like on creativity, difficulty, smoothness etc.

then they can PM someone and take some test to become a judge.. that's what i think.

this does not mean that all judges judge the same way... no.

it's more like a general judging information thing.

Yeah, I guess that's a pretty good idea, although it may take a while before someone is allowed to judge, we shouldn't make it so that it's as hard to get as moderator or anything, I say once you've reached 1 year of spinning you should be able to judge quite fairly.

Time of spinning doesn't mean much. A person who has been spinning for two years might have just as much knowledge about spinning as a person who has been doing so for half a year. I don't think I would be a good judge either, cause I'm not keen at recognizing what tricks someone links, I just see the overall image of how the person spins.

I like judged voting though, but not for all battles. I've had some battles on SweSpin with judged voting, then it's basically one person (often FooK tongue.gif) who decides the winner and gives reasons why.

But a person who has actually kept on learning new tricks and kept on actually spinning like Eriror or Bonkura would know much more then someone half a year.

is that just like a judged battle, but with more judges? seems to me it's always hard to even get THREE judges, much less get alot dry.gif

no, it's like people that actually know what they're looking at are voting.
it's pretty much public voting, but cutting all the random beginners that only look at what pleases the eye, and reduces voting due to popularity.
basically, only certain designated people can vote.

i reckon thats a good idea..but how are you going to know if people have the 'knowledge' or is good enough to vote? give people test??

This is kinda entwined with the ranking idea. You need to send in videos to reach a higher rank of penpinning, and if you're a certain rank you get the right to vote.

It would be awesome to build up a system like that but it would take a sickening amount of work.

I think the 20 posts rule somewhat enforces this already.

This is somewhat elitist. 'You can't vote because you're not a good enough pen spinner.' Public voting means everyone gets a vote, and this means a lot of votes, so any votes from beginners should tend to even out anyway. If you are so worried about public voting, then just get judges. For major battles (for example involving spinners such as Frat vs Error or something like this), then if there are worries about public voting, judges can be called upon, simply by PMing suitable spinners asking them. Most people are very helpful in this respect, and will help out and judge.

I don't think it would be good because certain judges could only like one type of style. Going for the general public gets all type of views.

he's not suggesting that only the 'experienced' spinner should be allowed to vote and rest of the 'non-experienced' can't vote. hes just saying (correct me if i'm wrong) that there should be 2 or more types of public voting. first one is what we have now, everyone who has over 20 post can vote. and the second one is that only the people who achieved certain level of spinning can vote.
