So, I made this video (sorry if it's a little long, I try to explain everything in full detail in the video), to showcase some of the Isolation techniques I've been thinking about. I'm not a great spinner, so if any better spinners want to try to eximplify any of these techniques, feel free.

Use this thread to comment on any of these techniques, or suggest your own.

EDIT: In case anyone kinda skipped around the vid or didn't watch it because of length the three techniques I talk about in the video are:

"Walking" the pen--Pen following a specific repetative motion through space.
"Hinge" tricks -- One end of the pen fixed and tricks being done around that fixed point.
Pen "Freeze" -- Pen staying entirely motionless while you move your hand around it.

**These are far from official names, just they way I refer to them for the sake of this project

Thanks for the post, but examples go in the other thread. I copied the post over for you.

On your note, yes, my claim isn't that I'm any pioneer of isolation techniques, but at the VERY least it can be agreed on that they're underdeveloped as compared to other things, the purpose of this project is to simply epxlore the concept a little more.

The Freeze technique reminds me the "go round tricks" that were developed in the FPSB Laboratoire.

the hinge is actually what we call isolation in PS

the freeze is the category of motionless tricks and includes stalls

the walking one approaches the possibility of exploiting space in combos, which I think pen spinners do not use very well.

    good job.

Yeah, I've seen maybe 5-10 examples of "hinge" in pen spinning videos before, but I think they could be improved/further explored

freeze i think would look DAMN good if somone could pull it off lol. yeah it's a subset of stalls and such, but i've never seen it done before

walking is probably my favorite, i like the idea of hand motion being directly tied to pen motion, it can look sick as hell if someone better than me were to do it lol

basically all these concepts were pulled from contact juggling/ glowsticking
