This is a pen mod I invented that is the perfect mod for spinners who prefer heavy pens with great momentum. It is also extremely cheap to make. happyy.gif
I didn't know what to call it so I decided to call it the Ballbearing Mod (use of ball bearings). The classic version of this mod is black (which is the one which I will teach you how to build), but it can be done with any color pen, as long as the size and weight are similar, as shown below.

    Classic:

White version with tips (Namae body, Calpioca caps):

Neon green version with purple stripe (PaperMate Intro body and caps):

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Statistics (of Classic version):

    Name: Ballbearing Mod

    Center of Gravity: COP

    Length: 18.5 cm

    Weight: HEAVY

    Style: Double sided

    Writing Mechanism: Non-retractable

    Ink-Type: Roller-ball

    Estimated cost: $5-10

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    MATERIALS LIST

    Pens needed:

    (2) Sanford 60153 Uni-Ball Micro
    (2) Office Depot brand mechanical pencils w/ black grips

    Others materials:

    (2) Ball bearings (metal balls)...(a good substitute is marbles, but ball bearings are suggested since they are more durable)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    STEP ONE.

Use your hands to break off the metal clips on the ends of both caps. It doesn't matter if the small cap on the top of the pen cap comes off, because it will be covered.

    STEP TWO.

Now double cap the pen. If it has writing on the barrel, you can erase it off with a Magic Rub eraser. It should look something like this.

    STEP THREE.

Now take the two black grips off of your mechanical pencils and apply them to each end of the caps. Don't slide it over completely, leave enough room in the grips so that the ball bearings can snugly fit into each end.

This pen should now look like this. It's nearly identical to the finished product. We're almost finished here bananalama.gif

    STEP FOUR.

Now you take each ball bearing (or marble, whichever you're using).
And you shove them into the grips on both ends (one bearing per side!)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    AND YOU'RE DONE! happyy.gif

Have fun spinning your new Ballbearing Mod! icon_spin.gif

    Q&A

Q: Can you make other colored pens except for black? Is it still a Ballbearing Mod?
A: Yes, just use different pens (as long as they're around the same length, diamete, weight, etc., they'll perform just as well!). And yes, it would still be a Ballbearing Mod, only the color of the pen is different than the classic version.

Q: What type of spinners would you recommend this pen for?
A: I would strongly recommend this mod for intermediate-advanced spinners who prefer using heavier pens and are looking for great momentum.

Q: Where can I get ball bearings?
A: You might be able to find them at some arts and crafts stores, but you can get them out of those cheap pyraminxes that you can get off of eBay. That's where I got mine. Also, an easy-to-find substitute is marbles, but they're not as great as ball bearings.

Q: Where'd you get the Calpioca caps that you used on your white Ballbearing Mod?
A: They come off of Calpioca marker pens, which you may be able to find at your local arts and crafts store.

Q: How did you attach your tips to the ball bearings?
A: I used superglue. I squeezed some superglue onto a piece of paper and dabbed it with the base of the tip. Then I pressed it firmly to the ball bearing (as it is inside the grip) and left it to dry over night. Best if you don't spin aggressively with it the next day, just in case. wink.gif

Q: When I drop my pen on my desk at school and it lands on the metal surface of the ball bearing, it always makes a big clank sound. How do I prevent this?
A: Attach tips. Or if you don't want to, then I guess you could try pulling the grip out more and pushing the ball bearing in deeper so that less surface is exposed.

Q: How do I remove the printing on the barrel of my pen?
A: You can rub it away with an eraser. IT takes a while, but don't worry, it'll work. It works the fastest when using a Magic Rub eraser. Don't try to scratch the printing off! It'll leaving scratch marks on the surface of the plastic.

You might wanna check your measurements wink.gif
I doubt peem would want a 91 gram pen

how come some of them use ball bearings or w/e and some use hgg tips?

Edit: This is pretty much a standard DC mod. Put caps on a body, throw on grips, and add tips.
Edit 2: apparently, i didn't see the post before me

I think on some of them you can see the outline of the ball bearing and there's a signo tip on top of that.

    TL;DR

    Weight: About 91 grams

    WTFhax

The pen itself is pretty nice and standard, if the metal ball bearing is skipped. Mind giving specs without the metal ball bearings? smile.gif

I think "heavy" is a term used freely in general, but in PS'ing "heavy" peaks at the Buster CYL (or CYL^2, if you wanna be like that). That's 20grams-ish. I seriously fear for the wrists since that's a lot of torque.

This is not a beginners mod..this is a really great mod for advanced spinners as well...maybe you should actually try spinning the mod before posting comments like this

Valid point but the idea of subbing marbles in the ends of a mod sounds stupid. also It seems like there is not specific body grip or cap which is sort of stupid. you basically taking any DC mod and shoving marbles in the end!?!? 0.o

Hmm nice I might try this out, although I spin with heavy mods, 90 ± 2 grams is pretty heavy very beastly.

Well, anyways it looks pretty cool. Id give it a try.

No..people think it's bad because it is heavy. My weight calculation of 91 grams was way off, I'm sorry, guys, please stop reposting about the "91 gram" weight. And they are not marbles, I think marbles are stupid to be used but it is used as a substitution material. You use ball bearings, which are used in many other hobbies including Rubik's cubes, etc.
